POSTER OF SCARLETT JOHANSSON AS BLACK WIDOW IN "IRON MAN II"

A little bit more than a month before the premiere of "Iron Man II" we have the new movie poster of dangerously curvaceous beauty Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow. How do you like her in the tight costume?
You already know the plot of the sequel: With the world now aware of his dual life as the armored superhero Iron Man, billionaire inventor Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) faces pressure from the government, the press, and the public to share his technology with the military. Unwilling to let go of his invention, Stark, along with Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), and James "Rhodey" Rhodes (Don Cheadle) at his side, must forge new alliances and confront powerful enemies.

STEPHEN DORFF JOINS HENRY CAVILL, FREIDA PINTO, MICKEY ROURKE AND KELLAN LUTZ IN TARSEM'S "WAR OF THE GODS"

New casting news from my favourite upcoming movie. According to "Variety" Stephen Dorff has rounded out the cast of Tarsem Singh's Greek mythology film "War of the Gods" which will start shooting in a few weeks in Canada.
Joining Henry Cavill as Theseus, Mickey Rourke as the ancient Greek king Hyperion, Freida Pinto as the oracle priestess Phaedra and Kellan Lutz as Poseidon, Stephen Dorff will portray Stavros, a master thief who joins Theseus on his quest to help free Greece from the dark threat of the gods.
Tarsem, a director of stunning and breathtaking visual style, has already said that he wants to shoot "War of the Gods" also known as "Dawn of War" the way Caravaggio painted his works, which means a lot of action mixed with Baroque design. The movie is set to premiere on 11.11.2011. (interesting date)!

CATHERINE ZETA JONES IS HOLLYWOOD SPY'S MOST MAGICAL BRUNETTE. NEW POLL - FIRE ANGELS!

I applaud you once again my beloved readers, you have shown impeccable taste choosing Welsh queen Catherine Zeta Jones as our most MAGICAL BRUNETTE with stunning 37% of your 110 votes. The second place with 20% went to Kate Beckinsale, followed by Emily Blunt and Rachel Weisz who shared 13% of your votes.
Catherine Zeta Jones is the magical creature of the kind which hasn't been seen in Hollywood for decades: classic movie diva like those famous actresses from the Golden age of Tinseltown. If you ask me, Catherine is the most beautiful woman on Earth: not only does she have the spellbinding physical beauty, but she has something that only a few other modern actresses have - the deeply profound charisma and aura which simply radiate and glow from her magical presence. Even when some of her movies aren't that good, you still remember her intelligent and highly expressive performances. I just hope she'll get one big role, the role of her career, the role larger than life. We love you Catherine Zeta Jones.

Since we have found the most beautiful blond and brunette in showbiz, let's choose the most seductive redhead. In the following two weeks you can vote as much as you want for one of these FIRE ANGELS: profound angel Toni Collette ("The United States of Tara"), royal angel Marcia Cross ("Desperate Housewives"), fragile angel Ellen Pompeo ("Gray's Anatomy"), sinful angel Christine Hendricks ("Mad Men"), baby angel Emma Stone ("The House Bunny"), sugar angel Isla Fisher ("Confessions of a Shopaholic"), snow angel Bryce Dallas Howard ("Lady in the Water") or icy angel Julianne Moore ("Far From Heaven"). Vote on and make us happy :)

"INDEPENDENCE DAY" TWO AND THREE?

Although for quite a long time Fox wasn't willing to do the sequel to "Independence Day" because the price of at least $20 million which they would have to pay for Will Smith, was too high for the studio, it seems they are now finally moving on with the preproduction. According to IESB.net Will Smith has been locked for not only "Independence Day 2", but also for a third installment. The plan is to shoot both films back-to-back. The shooting could start sometime in 2011.
Directed by Roland Emmerich the first movie earned almost one billion dollars around the world, and was one of the first ginormous blockbusters of the modern age. I just wonder what will the aliens destroy this time, since everybody's favourite target, The White House, was blown into pieces in the legendary scene which made audience clap like mad in cinemas all around the world.

POETS AND MONSTERS IN "THE CASEBOOK OF VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN"

Ah, we'll be seeing yet another Frankenstein tale in the upcoming future. Timur Bekmambetov has signed on to direct the adaptation of Peter Ackroyd's novel "The Casebook of Victor Frankenstein". Here's what the publisher Random House says about the novel:
When two nineteenth-century Oxford students-Victor Frankenstein, a serious researcher, and the poet Percy B. Shelley form an unlikely friendship, the result is a tour de force that could only come from one of the world's most accomplished and prolific authors. This haunting and atmospheric novel opens with a heated discussion, as Shelley challenges the conventionally religious Frankenstein to consider his atheistic notions of creation and life. Afterward, these concepts become an obsession for the young scientist. As Victor begins conducting anatomical experiments to reanimate the dead, he at first uses corpses supplied by the coroner. But these specimens prove imperfect for Victor's purposes. Moving his makeshift laboratory to a deserted pottery factory in Limehouse, he makes contact with the Doomsday men, the resurrectionists, whose grisly methods put Frankenstein in great danger as he works feverishly to bring life to the terrifying creature that will bear his name for eternity.
Apparently some other famous people from that period, such as Godwin, Lord Byron, and Mary Shelley, also appear in the novel, and could appear in the movie as well.

RACHEL WEISZ IN JAMES BOND?

Since young beauties Freida Pinto and Olivia Wilde have refused roles in the latest James Bond film, the producers have found another actress who might play the main vixen in the film. According to "CinemaBlend" Rachel Weisz could be the villain in "James Bond 23":
They're considering Weisz to play the head of Quantum, the secret organization responsible for all the bad guy activity in the last two films. More than just another Bond babe, she'd be the mastermind pulling the strings behind everything that's happened in Daniel Craig's Bond movies so far, and the architect of James Bond's suffering.
The most interesting thing is that the director of the movie will be Sam Mendes, and you all know that he and Rachel were lovers back in the 90's. If you ask me, I've always thought Bond girl roles are degrading to all actresses (career-wise), and I don't remember any of them having any use from it, beside becoming sex symbols, so Rachel definitely doesn't need this job.

ANGELINA JOLIE WANTS TO BE "MALEFICENT"?

HOLLYWOOD SPY has informed you recently that Disney is planning to make a darker version of the "Sleeping Beauty" told from the point of Maleficent, the evil lady who cast the original spell on the sleeping princess. Be honest and admit that the first actress who appeared in your mind for the role was Angelina Jolie :) Well, according to the fresh news from "The Los Angeles Times" Angelina Jolie is actually interested in becoming the fairy tale villain.
The first rumors about "Maleficent" started last year and both Angelina Jolie and director Tim Burton had been linked to the post modern take on this classic. It's still not clear whether Burton will really helm this project, but apparently Angelina is very much interested in being involved in this project. I wonder, if she gets the role, will Brad Pitt play the Sleeping Beauty? :))

"SEX AND THE CITY 2" PREMIERE GETTING CLOSE

Here's one for our dear girls and other fans of "Sex and the City". The sequel to the worldwide blockbuster based on HBO's ultra popular TV show, is close to its premiere on May 27th.
As you know the plot is kept secret but we know that Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha will visit Abu Dhabi (as Carrie says in the trailer - sometimes you just have to get away from boys), where the foursome are said to be meeting up with Samantha Jones' ex-boyfriend Smith. It seems that Carrie will have a surprising encounter there with one of her biggest ex-loves Aiden Shaw. There will be changes in the lives of four girls: Miranda is dreaming of quitting her lawyer job to be a housewife, Samantha is trying to stay youthful and Charlotte is coming to terms with family life. Apparently there will also be a baby (Mister Little?) and a wedding in the movie (probably Stanford's), but no one knows the details.

NEW POSTERS SATURDAY

Weekends are usually boring when it comes to movie news, so I might regale you with four brand new posters for some of the most anticipated films this summer. Finally a good poster for "Robin Hood", glamorous poster for "Prince of Persia: Sands of Time", a group poster for "Iron Man 2" and charming poster for something you probably won't watch unless you are seriously underaged - "Cats and Dogs: the Revenge of Kitty Galore". Click on these two pics to see the posters in their full size.

MICHAEL ROSENBAUM IS "SAVED BY ZEROES"

Do you miss ever so cool Michael Rosenbaum from "Smallville"? Well according to "The Hollywood Reporter" he is developing the half-hour single-camera, live-action comedy "Saved by Zeroes" for Sy Fy. Rosenbaum will also star, together with Jonathan Silverman, in the project based on his personal experiences. The comedy will revolve around two friends, former actors on a science fiction show that has since developed a cult following, who have hit rock bottom and must work together to get their lives back on track.
Through drugs and drinking our characters didn't save money and, years later, the only thing they have left are the conventions, all they've got are their loyal, devoted fans. Our show is not about being in the business, it's about being out of the business - it's the "Non-tourage" We're the losers you want to see back on top, Rosenbaum said.

NEW TRAILER FOR "THE SORCERER'S APPRENTICE"

If you are like me and always find Nicolas Cage ridiculous no matter what role he takes, than you can at least watch the new "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" trailer for the amazing special effects and the charming young Jay Baruchel who is getting more and more popular these days. In the movie, Dave (Jay Baruchel) is just an average college student, or so it appears, until the sorcerer Balthazar Blake (Nicolas Cage) recruits him as his reluctant protégé and gives him a crash course in the art and science of magic. As he prepares for a battle against the forces of darkness in modern-day Manhattan, Dave finds it is going to take all of the courage he can muster to survive his training, save the city and get the girl as he becomes "The Sorcerer's Apprentice". The cast also includes Monica Bellucci and Alfred Molina, and the movie is out this July.

SECOND TRAILER FOR "THE LAST AIRBENDER"

Here's a brand new trailer for the upcoming fantasy adventure "The Last Airbender" which premieres July 2nd. The trailer reveals some stunning scenes which we haven't seen in the previous trailer, and plus you can see some amazing new fire and waterbending. But I still have a problem with some of the actors: is it just me, or do you also have a feeling that the youngest actor will be the weakest part in the movie?

"KICK-ASS: CREATING THE COMIC, MAKING THE MOVIE" FROM TITAN BOOKS

Now this is a definite must-have for all the fans of the upcoming "Kick-Ass" movie. One of my favourite publishers "Titan Books" has just released a cool new book "Kick-Ass: Creating the Comic, Making the Movie" promoting the long awaited film. This is the essential companion book for the "Kick-Ass" movie based on the bestselling comic book series by Mark Millar (writer of the graphic novel "Wanted", which became a smash-hit movie) and artist John Romita Jr. This luxurious, 180 pages book will be your guide through the film and its making, offering you Millar's early comic book script pages, eye-popping Romita art, including new pages drawn especially for the movie, exclusive contributions and interviews with the cast and crew and hundreds of movie photos, sketches, storyboards and pieces of production art. You can order this cool book over at Titan's website.
As you know "Kick-Ass" follows Dave Lizewski an unnoticed high school student and comic book fan with a few friends, who lives alone with his father. His life is not very difficult and his personal trials not that overwhelming. However, one day he makes the simple decision to become a super-hero, the self-styled vigilante Kick-Ass, even though he has no powers or training. What happens when an ordinary kid in a spandex costume comes face-to-face with the criminal underworld? Starring young Aaron Johnson, Nicolas Cage and Mark Strong, the film is out this April.
You can also check out the new music video with the charming main song from the movie, performed by less charmingMika.

WILL SMITH IN "THE CITY THAT SAILED"

According to "Variety" Will Smith could sail away in the near future. His own production company, "Overbrook Films", has developed "The City That Sailed" for Fox.
Written by sf mastermind Andrew Niccol, the story centers around a street magician in New York who is separated from his young daughter. She moves to London and finds magic candles that make her wishes come true. This causes the island of Manhattan to separate from the continent and it floats toward England, bringing her dad closer to her. So far it's not known whether Will Smith will play a role in the movie or not. We will keep you posted.

KELLAN LUTZ IS POSEIDON IN TARSEM'S "WAR OF THE GODS"

It's becoming rather obvious that Tarsem Sing's upcoming epic adventure "War of the Gods" will be full of beautiful young people in the cast. As "MovieWeb" reports young Kellan Lutz ("The Twilight Saga: Eclipse") has signed on for a role in the film. He will portray the vengeful sea god Poseidon. "War of the Gods" also stars Henry Cavill ("The Tudors") and Freida Pinto.
The story follows Theseus (Cavill) who sets out to defeat the older Greek gods to restore balance to mankind. Pinto will play Phaedra, an oracle who joins Theseus on his quest while Mickey Rourke will play King Hyperion. Tarsem ("The Cell", "The Fall") will give the story his usual directorial touch which means that the movie will be visually breathtaking, stunningly creative and mindblowing. The production starts in April.

"THE UNITED STATES OF TARA" SECOND SEASON BEGINS

If you have missed Toni Collette's legendary performance in "The United States of Tara" for which she won both Emmy and Golden Globe, you can relax, because yesterday we saw the beginning of the second season of the ultra witty dramedy. The second season will be aired each Monday on Showtime. With one husband, two children and four split personalities, Tara will come back in the second season which opens with a bang as the Gregsons' neighbor commits suicide and the family unexpectedly is given responsibility of the house. Now well and dissociation-free for several months, Tara sets out to make new friends with Max's help. Marshall struggles to fit in at school while Kate lands a new job. Nick pops the question to Charmaine.
On the heels of record ratings for its second season debut this Monday, "The United States Of Tara", has just been renewed for a third season as well.
Do you watch "Tara"? I must admit it's one of my top favourite shows to watch on TV.

WARNER BROS. BYING THE RIGHTS ON "BLEACH" MANGA

Here's one for all my dear manga-obsessed friends :) According to "Heat Vision" Warner Bros. is in negotiations to buy the movie rights for "Bleach", a popular and acclaimed Japanese manga, written and drawn by Tite Kubo.
The story of "Bleach" centers on a 15-year-old boy who has the ability to see ghosts and meets a female Soul Reaper, a member of an order that escorts the souls of the dead. A fight with an evil spirit causes the Reaper to transfer all her power to the boy, leaving her stranded in the human world and the boy taking over her job as a fighter of evil.

GO MEDIEVAL WITH NEW TV SHOW "CAMELOT"

Oh, I'm so happy that TV is finally offering us some great historical shows. Beside BBC's "Merlin", Showtime's "Borgias" and HBO's "Game of Thrones" Starz has also decided to add a new show beside their two historical projects "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" and "The Pillars of the Earth". They have secured the rights on "Camelot" which HOLLYWOOD SPY has already written about as the original new approach to the timeless Arthurian legend, from the creative team which stands behind the landmark series "The Tudors". Starz plans to air 10 episodes of the series in the first half of 2011.
"Camelot" will be based on Thomas Malory's 15th century book "Le Morte d'Arthur", but it will weave authenticity into a modern telling of the Arthur legends that is relatable to contemporary audiences. The casting for this fascinating medieval project is underway with the cast expected to feature fresh talent combined with established faces who will enhance the high quality of the new series. Production will begin in June in Ireland.

THE TRAILER FOR THE LAST SEASON OF "THE TUDORS"

Take a sneak peek into the fourth and the last season of Showtime's popular historical saga "The Tudors" which begins airing Sunday, April 11th. Along with an older king Henry played by Jonathan Rhys Meyers you will also see his last queen played by Joely Richardson. Check out the trailer if you're not afraid of spoilers :)

LOUIS LETERRIER TO DIRECT "THE AVENGERS"?

From Hulk and Greek gods to the whole team of super heroes? Seems natural, yes? In an interview for "AICN", while promoting his upcoming 3D epic "Clash of the Titans" director Louis Leterrier has revelead that he might helm "The Avengers":
I am on the shortlist, but I'm at the bottom of the shortlist, I'm sure (Laughs). I don't know who the other guys are, but I have a great relationship with Marvel, and I've been very vocal to them and everyone else that I am the one to direct it. I loved my time at Marvel. I loved those guys. They're fantastic. Kevin is such a passionate boss, he gets his hands dirty. It's a universe I want to keep exploring. I was frustrated with The Incredible Hulk. It was like, "That's it? Only one superhero? Can I do more???" We'll see. Time will tell.
Set to be released in 2012 "The Avengers" should connect Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, and Captain America all in one movie. So what do you think? Is he the right man for the job?

HANK AZARIA IS GARGAMEL, KATY PERRY IS SMURFETTE

It seems that director Raja Gosnell is quickly forming his cast for the upcoming adaptation of "The Smurfs". After Neil Patrick Harris who will play a live-action character in the movie, the new addition to the cast is Hank Azaria who will be the charming villain Gargamel, and he will also appear in the film as a live action character. On the other hand the voice cast for the CGI generated Smurfs will include George Lopez, Katy Perry as Smurfette off course :), Alan Cumming as Gutsy Smurf, Jonathan Winters as Papa Smurf... I'm not sure how, but apparently the film will be set in New York City's Central Park. Production begins next month and "The Smurfs" will come out of their mushroom houses in August 2011.

TARANTINO GOES GAGA

While the whole planet is talking about her latest video "Telephone" (we in Europe can enjoy the full controversial version :P) Lady Gaga is already planning her next move. The young popstar has met director Quentin Tarantino during the making of "Telephone" which featured the Pussy Wagon from his "Kill Bill" movies. Impressed with Gaga being all gaga :) the "Pulp Fiction" director, who has admitted many times before that he was a huge fan of hers, has apparantly offered Lady Gaga a starring role as an assassin in his next film. So what do you say about this? Good news, bad news, not news at all? :)

CHRIS EVANS THE CLOSEST TO BECOME "CAPTAIN AMERICA"

According to "Heat Vision Blog" the quest for "Captain America" is over and the role has been offered to Chris Evans (who generally has the biggest support among the fans of the super hero). Apparently the offer includes deals for three "Captain America" films along with "The Avengers". But since neither Marvel Studios nor Evans' representatives would comment on the story I must add that yesterday everybody was writing about Chris not being the only actor in the final round. According to other sites, the other two final contenders are Channing Tatum, whom we already mentioned this week, and young Sebastian Stan from the popular TV show "Gossip Girl". Although Sebastian might have better chances since Evans has already been a super hero in "The Fantastic Four" while Channing is a part of "G.I.Joe" super team, we must add that Sebastian is from Romania, and the producers said that they want an American for the lead role.

FRESH NEW PICS FROM "CLASH OF THE TITANS"

Click on these two pics to see the scenes from the movie which follows the quest of the famous Perseus played by Sam Worthington. Liam Neeson appears as Zeus, Ralph Fiennes is Hades, Gemma Arterton is Io, Alexa Davalos is princess Andromeda, Mads Mikkelsen is Draco, Polly Walker is Cassiopeia, Jason Flemyng is Calibos ....

JENNIFER LOPEZ GOES "OVERBOARD"

Since her career has long ago gone overboard (especially the music one), Jennifer-I-Wear-Dead-Animals-On-Me- Lopez might literally go overboard in a remake of the 80's romantic comedy "Overboard" which starred Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn. Will Smith is one of the producers of the remake for Columbia and Lopez is currently in negotiations to take the lead role.
As you remember the story centers on a snooty, spoiled woman who falls off her yacht and is taken to the hospital by a local, morally challenged carpenter. When she wakes up with amnesia, he convinces her she is his wife, thereby getting a free housekeeper for his four boys.

"STAR WARS" LIVE ACTION TV SERIES GETTING CLOSER TO PRODUCTION

As you know, one of the favourite sf gossips which has been circling around Hollywood for yeas now is the one about George Lucas preparing the live-action "Star Wars" television series. And now we have the answer why is that project taking so long to start with the production. Apparently "Star Wars" series is still in the scripting stage, and George Lucas doesn't want to set a production date until all of the first season scripts have been finished.
But the good news is that the work on the unnamed show's scripts appears to be at an advanced stage now, which isn't surprising, considering the writing of the live-action show began two years ago. The first reports say that the story of the new series will follow some of the more minor characters from the movies and it will take place in the time period between "Star Wars III - Revenge of the Sith" and "Star Wars IV - A New Hope".

Who has what it takes to stand up to this menace? Who will defend the innocent? Megamind! That's who. Will Ferrell, Brad Pitt and Tina Fey are just some of the stars who gave their voices in this movie.

TIM BURTON DOING HIS VERSION OF "THE ADDAMS FAMILY"

"Deadline New York" reveals that Tim Burton's next project might be "The Addams Family". It will be a 3D stop-motion version of the Addams family but it will not be similar to the previous popular movie versions. Burton is planning to go back to the original cartoon drawings of Charles Addams from "The New Yorker" magazine. Apparently the new "Addams Family" members will have the sharper wit like in the stories from the original drawings.
But before that, Burton must finish "Frankenweenie" again a 3D stop-motion animation about a pet dog brought back to life by his loyal owner, which will be shot in black & white for a 2011 release.

FIRST SNEAK PEEK INTO PAUL BETTANY'S "PRIEST"

Here's the first sneak peek into Paul Bettany's upcoming adventure/horror film "Priest" shown recently in "Entertainment Tonight". If you click the video bellow you will see the first look of the main characters and some action from this movie set in a world ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampire which follows a warrior priest who turns against the church to track down a murderous band of vampires who have kidnapped his niece. Beside our beloved Paul Bettany "Priest" also stars Karl Urban, Cam Gigandet, Maggie Q, Stephen Moyer and Christopher Plummer and will premiere next January.

ROSE MCGOWAN AS WITCH IN "CONAN"

Since she couldn't play Red Sonja because she broke her leg (at least that's what we were told) Rose McGowan will have to go barbaric in "Conan". According to "Variety" she will join Jason Momoa who plays Conan, Rachel Nichols, Ron Perlman who will play Conan's father and Stephen Lang who will portray a sadistic warlord. In the adventure directed by Marcus Nispel, which will center on the mythical hero driven to avenge the murder of his father and the slaughter of his village, Rose McGowan will portray the character of an evil half-human/half-witch.

AMANDA SEYFRIED, JONATHAN RHYS MEYERS AND ORLANDO BLOOM JOIN "ALBERT NOBBS"

A whole bunch of hot people has joined "Albert Nobbs" to be directed by Rodrigo Garcia. Amanda Seyfried, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Orlando Bloom will join legendary Glenn Close, who is returning to her award-winning stage role as a woman who tries to pass as a man to survive the harsh times of 19th century Ireland. Glenn Close will also produce this movie which starts shooting in Dublin this June, and is based on the short story by George Moore.

TIMUR BEKMAMBETOV TO DIRECT "THE LAST WITCH HUNTER"

As "MovieWeb" reports Summit Entertainment has made a pre-emptive mid-six figures buy for writer Cory Goodman's "The Last Witch Hunter". Apparently they want to develop this project into a franchise. Famous Russian-Kazakh director Timur Bekmambetov ("Day Watch", "Night Watch", "Wanted") is currently putting together a deal where he will produce and direct this film.
The story will center around one of the last witch hunters on earth. This person keeps the population of witches and warlocks at a reasonable level. They are about to start repopulating a lot more than they should unless he can prevent them from doing so.

CHANNING TATUM AND EMILY BLUNT ALSO IN THE RUN FOR "CAPTAIN AMERICA"

These are probably the best news so far about "Captain America:the First Avenger" casting process. According to "Deadline New York" Marvel Studios has put Channing Tatum right beside Ryan Phillippe, Chris Evans, Mike Vogel and Garrett Hedlund on the list of the actors who might score the main role in the movie.
But that's not all - the studio has also started testing leads for the female role of Peggy. They want an American actor to play Captain America, but they are presently looking for a British actress for the female lead, and apparently they are currently leaning towards gorgeous Emily Blunt.

Monday, March 15, 2010

RYAN PHILLIPE IS ALSO IN THE RUN FOR CAPTAIN AMERICA?

You didn't mean the casting process for "Captain America: the First Avenger" was anywhere close to over, hm? After the director Joe Johnston has chosen Hugo Weaving to play the main villain, the race for the title character is still on, with a new actor on the main list. It appears that Ryan Phillipe is the new name Marvel Studios is considering for the role of Captain America.
Last week we informed you that Garrett Hedlund, Mike Vogel, John Krasinski and Chris Evans were in contention for the role as well. So, the mystery continues :)

KATE WINSLET AND SAM MENDES SPLIT

Ah, more sad news people. One of the biggest news this weekend was that Kate Winslet and director Sam Mendes have decided to put an end to their seven-year long marriage. Their lawyers have issued a statement that Kate and Sam are saddened to announce that they separated earlier this year and that the split is entirely amicable and is by mutual agreement. Both parties are fully committed to the future joint parenting of their children. Although there was a ten years age difference between them, they've always seemed as Hollywood's golden couple, and they have a six year old son Joe. As "People" reports Winslet and Mendez were both born in Reading, England, and are also both Oscar winners. She won the Best Actress award in 2009 for her profound and deeply emotional role in "The Reader" after five previous nominations. He was named Best Director in 2000 for "American Beauty". They became a couple in the fall of 2001, when Mendes approached Winslet to star in one of his plays. Mendes had previously been linked to actresses Calista Flockhart and Rachel Weisz.

ANDY WHITFIELD HAS LYMPHOMA - "SPARTACUS BLOOD AND SAND" STOPS SHOOTING!

Shocking news! "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" lead star Andy Whitfield has been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma and since he will begin treatment immediately in New Zealand the shooting of the popular show has come to a halt. Whitfield has discovered the cancer during a routine checkup but his doctors have stated his condition is very treatable, and was detected in its early stages. The second season, which was renewed even before the first season aired, was scheduled to begin shooting shortly in New Zealand, but it has been postponed to accommodate Andy's treatment. "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" has been a breakout success for the Starz network, and has already gathered a lot of fans. HOLLYWOOD SPY hopes they will continue with the successful airing, and that Andy will come back healthier and better than ever.

KATHERINE HEIGL LEAVES "GREY'S ANATOMY" FOR GOOD

Sad news for all of you who like ABC's worldwide hit "Grey's Anatomy" - the queen of tears, Izzie isn't coming back. According to "MovieWeb" the series creator Shonda Rimes has agreed to let Katherine Heigl out of her contract, something she's wanted for some time now. It was also said that ABC Studios and Heigl still have to hammer out an exit deal. Heigl, who has played Dr. Izzie Stevens during the entire six-season run of the show, had taken more than half of this current season off and was set to return on March 1, but she hasn't been on the set at all yet. The talks between Heigl and ABC have been going on for months and last week both sides mutually decided that the best solution would be to part ways now as opposed to at the end of the season. As a result, Heigl is not expected to return to the set, which means her final episode as Izzie has already aired.
Katherine obviously wants and plans to develop her movie career.

RON PERLMAN IS CONAN'S DAD. SAID TAGHMAOUI AND STEPHEN LANG ALSO JOIN THE CAST

Hellboy meets Conan? Yes, yes, it's true. Since Mickey Rourke has bailed on them in order to star as king in "War of the Gods", the producers of "Conan" have decided that Jason Momoa's dad will be played by Ron Perlman. He will be the new Corin, Conan's father, a single parent and master thief. The new adaptation of the classic comic will start shooting later this month in Bulgaria. Directed by Marcus Nispel, the film will, as you know, have Rachel Nichols in the lead female role opposite Jason Momoa.
And the latest news is that Said Taghmaoui ("G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra")has also joined the cast. He will play a leader of thieves who is saved by Conan and later offers him aid. There is also Stephen Lang ("Avatar") who is going to be the villainous ruler in search of a queen. Her blood has the ability to bring life to the demonic minions of a long-lost god.
