TV MONDAY: NEW "SINBAD" SHOW! LOVELY CHARACTER POSTERS FOR ABC'S FANTASY SHOW "ONCE UPON A TIME"! FLY WITH "PAN AM" THIS FALL ON ABC!

In the sea of new shows which will come to American channels this Autumn, here's one from the other side of the ocean: British Sky One is preparing a new adventure show based on the famous
enchanting legend of SINBAD. The 13 episode series will have young newcomer Elliot Knight in the lead role in the story which will  follow famous Sinbad as he flees his home and ends up being cast out to sea. After a magical storm, Sinbad teams up with his ship-mates and goes on a voyage of discovery. Naveen Andrews, whom you remember as Sayid from LOST will play  Sinbad's enemy Lord Akbari, while two established actors Sophie Okonedo and Timothy Spall will have guest star roles in the show too. Shooting over in Malta, the show should premiere next year.

 Today, you can also check out four beautiful posters which are announcing the first season of ABC's wonderful new show ONCE UPON A TIME which centers on a woman with a troubled past who is drawn into a small town in Maine where the magic
and mystery of Fairy Tales just may be real. As you remember from HOLLYWOOD SPY's spotlight of the show, the rich ensemble of
characters features a Snow White, an Evil Queen, a prince charming and many others with the cast that includes Jennifer Morrison, Josh Dallas, Jamie Dornan, Ginnifer Goodwin and Robert Carlyle.

One of the shows which will continue the trend of shows being set in the 60's is ABC's glamorous and visually beautiful new show PAN AM
which will follow the pilots and flight attendants who once made Pan Am the most glamorous way to fly. Starring two film stars Christina Ricci and Mike Vogel, the show, which premieres September 25th, will also have ER's Goran Visnjic, who will play an immigrant from Yugoslavia, as a guest star. Christina Ricci, who moved from cinema to TV in this Fall's new trend of having movie stars as TV leads (Patrick Wilson, Ashley Judd, Sam Neill, James Caviezel will all have their own shows), has said that she enjoyed playing a flight attendant because she thinks that they had more freedom than most women of the era.

  1. I saw a preview for two of these shows when I was at the movie theatre. They looked okay, but it's hard to tell. Should be an interesting fall. :)

  2. Well, hopefully, everybody will find something for themselves. I personally have my TV treats in January and in April with historical shows :)

  3. I read somewhere that Panam = Mad men for women. That correct?

  4. I admit I'm intrigued by Once Upon a Time but Pan Am seems more than a little cheesy.

  5. @Inverse
    'tis quite possible :)

    @Mary
    ah, I thought you'd like PAN AM since you experienced the 60's yourself ;)

  6. Sinbad yes, what a hottie!

    Pan Am, hell no. The Pan Am stewardesses were treated horribly... felt up, raped, weigh-ins, girdles and docked pay if they complained. There have been some really great feminist exposes written on the supposedly glamorous Pan Am days. But the show was created by a man, who would naturally look at this era with rose-colored glasses. Just look at the sexist comments and sexual preludes in the trailer.

  7. But Sinbad does need to lose that horrid hat on his head, don't you think? :)

    I wouldn't really be surprised if stewardesses were still treated that way ... but it also true that in a today's world its difficult to behave correctly when genders are in question - if you don't use sex comments some women think you're cold and not manly and they want nothing to do with you, but if you do use sex comments and are macho, some of them will call you a pig and some will like it .... it's really confusing :)
    The rapes, the weigh-ins, girdles ... those are all bad bad bad things!

  10. I'm relieved but also just a little disappointed that you weren't talking about Sinbad the stand-up comedian. Also, anything with Christina Ricci in it is fine by me.

  11. he he ... ah, no, we didn't like that Sinbad either. And he belongs in the past.
    Ricci is always great!

  12. Afraid I just don't watch television, Dezzy, except some of the mini-series I get on Netflix like Spartacus.

  13. Yeah that hat is terrible. It should get washed overboard or lost in a storm. ;)

    You're absolutely right about the mixed messages. It is confusing, swimming out there in the gender pool. However, I'm one who prefers nice talk. If someone were to use those innuendos at me, I'd tell him to get lost. And if he still didn't get the message, I'm not above a blunt instrument to the skull. ;)

  14. aw, don't you like Sinbad's tea-towel of a hat? ;)

  15. Love the idea of the PanAm show. Very MadMen with the underlying tensions between the sexes. Great trailer!

  16. I'm interested to see Naveen Andrews again, but I don't think this show will appeal to me. "Once" has an interesting premise, but I always have little faith in TV shows to turn out to be any good. Hopefully it does though!

  17. Once Upon A Time looks fab! Can't wait!

    And OMG I had no idea James Caviezel is coming to TV! SIGN ME UP! I met him once; he's incredibly kind and.... very very pretty.

  18. Not really interested in any of these. (Except maybe how to get those abs...)

  19. I'm looking forward to Once Upon a Time. When I saw the poster for Pan Am I thought that it was a a sequel to catch me if you can, hehe.

    @Lyndy

    @Kristin

  27. Pan Am looks like fun, but I'm a fan of those types of films anyway... Down With Love anyone? :D And of course ALL the Doris Day-Rock Hudson hook-ups...

    OK, and I'll confess. I'm intrigued by Once~ :D <3

  28. Once Upon A Time looks so awesome. Especially Snow White. I love that actress.

  29. With the magic that's taken over the publishing world, I kinda wondered how come we haven't been seeing more tv shows. But then, I'm a dinosaur so it may very well be that I'm just missing the ones that are on air.

  30. Wow, that Rumplestiltskin poster could give me nightmares! PAN AM looks great. I love retrospectives.

  31. After years and years of television, I'm always excited and surprised with all the new and creative ideas coming to TV. Thanks for the heads up.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm hoping Once Upon a Time will be good.

  33. @Vics
    sorry to disappoint you, Vics, but as I said in the post, this is a Sky One production, not BBC one, which can mean both things - good show or a bad show :( I loved Sky One as a kid, but I haven't heard of their own production recently, and back in those old days, they aired only US programmes.

    @Leigh
    PAN AM could be really sexy and interesting, with spicy dialogues, while ONCE UPON A TIME will be simply magical :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. @Jesse
    that Ginnifer Goodwin :) she had a nice romcom this summer called SOMETHING BORROWED!

    @JL
    hey, JL, welcome to HOLLYWOOD SPY. We do love magic on big and small screens, and that's why we've been enjoying shows like MERLIN, but we definitely need more magic in our shows!

    ReplyDelete
  35. @Doralynn
    hehe Robert Carlyle was always super freaky and scary in all of his negative roles :) I still remember his extremely scary role in ERAGON

    @Clarissa
    be welcome, glad you enjoyed the TV news, and I will have some interesting TV news tomorrow as well, or better to say at 18h NY time today :)

    @Mary
    me to, we need some magic on TV!

  36. PAN AM sounds intriguing, I might have to check that out. Those were the days when being a flight attendant was such a prestigious thing, my in-laws were flight attendants once in my home country, that's how they met :D

    And Goran Visnjic, nice, and Mike Vogel is pretty good looking too!

    ReplyDelete
  37. If I looked that hawt, then I could wear anything and get away with it :P

    ReplyDelete
  38. @Flixy
    if I remember correctly Indonesian stewardesses have lovely outfits!
    Kinda knew you were a fan of Goran :)

    @Lyndy
    if I looked that good I probably wouldn't wear anything ... like ever :) It is a sin putting clothes on a flawless body :)
