EXCLUSIVE FIRST IMAGE REVEALED
Today we have an exclusive first image from the upcoming new historical series COOLIE showing Louise Wong and Mauricio Henao in the limited series set in the 1860’s, which follows a young girl (Wong) who sets off from China to marry a political exile working on a sugarcane plantation in Cuba. She finds the plantation owner (Henao) plotting for independence from Imperial Spain, aided by Chinese workers and African slaves seeking freedom, while the landowner’s spurned wife and her old lover conspire against them all. Pachinko's Arvin Chen is directing, and the series is created by Meileen Choo. You can read more about the story and the cast here.

  2. I am behind on my plantation knowledge of Cuba and didn't realize they had sugarcane plantations there. I was so hoping we'd get to visit a tobacco field when we were planning a trip there pre-covid. I wanted to see the cigars being made.

    1. They are super fun for the tourists, and probably less fun for those who live there. Our people often go there to cure cancer as their doctors have some methods and knowledge untouched by big pharma.
