KATE WINSLET AND SAM MENDES SPLIT

Ah, more sad news people. One of the biggest news this weekend was that Kate Winslet and director Sam Mendes have decided to put an end to their seven-year long marriage. Their lawyers have issued a statement that Kate and Sam are saddened to announce that they separated earlier this year and that the split is entirely amicable and is by mutual agreement. Both parties are fully committed to the future joint parenting of their children. Although there was a ten years age difference between them, they've always seemed as Hollywood's golden couple, and they have a six year old son Joe. As "People" reports Winslet and Mendez were both born in Reading, England, and are also both Oscar winners. She won the Best Actress award in 2009 for her profound and deeply emotional role in "The Reader" after five previous nominations. He was named Best Director in 2000 for "American Beauty". They became a couple in the fall of 2001, when Mendes approached Winslet to star in one of his plays. Mendes had previously been linked to actresses Calista Flockhart and Rachel Weisz.

  1. Darn, this is one of the few Hollywood couples I actually kind of liked. Though that much talent in one household, really, could anything survive?

  2. yep, Uni, that is also the reason why me and Catherine Zeta Jones will never be together - it would be too much talent under one roof :)

  3. Oh that's so sad to hear when a marriage doesn't work out.

I feel more and more fortunate to have found my hubs every day.

  4. Seems Hollywood marriages never last. I think Kevin Kline and Pheobe Cates might hold the record...

  5. I am really not surprised. They seemed a little weird together and he was never with her at events. I always find that a little weird. But, then again, who knows with Hollywood? It is always sad for the kids.

  6. I’ve never followed news about this couple very closely, but I I thought this marriage was solid. Sorry to hear about this split.

  7. Chels, he did often appear with her at events, if you Google their pics you will see that, but it's true he wasn't so keen on appearing with her at Oscars and Globes. I guess since he is a director, it was weird for him to come as her companion instead of a nominee.

  8. She got what she wanted, an Oscar, now she doesn't need the director husband anymore, esp since HIS film didn't give her the Oscar.

  9. I think he gained much more from their marriage than she. Being with one of the best and one of the most popular actresses he got quite a lot of media attention which he didn't have before. And she was well respected even before their relationship. She had a director husband before him as well :)
