The series will arrive this spring

While we are waiting for his Sandocan series, Turkish super star Can Yaman has another epic series in his sleeve: historical adventure EL TURCO which had it's world launch over at Mipcom TV Market in Cannes last Autumn and should hit the small screens March 21st in Italy, Turkey, Brazil and Russia. The English language drama was originally done for Disney Plus but they opted out of it and the series will be shopped elsewhere. The six-episode series which aims to be international with cast including actors from nine different countries will combine history, action-adventure and romance done by Turkish distributor Madd Entertainment, who are planning for the show to get a global release this spring. IN EL TURCO EPIC TV SERIES

Can Yaman plays 17th Ottoman soldier Hasan Balaban, who was wounded during the Turkish army’s campaign to conquer Vienna in 1683 and ended up some 200 kilometers away in the Italian Alpine village of Moena. Nicknamed “El Turco” by the villagers, he led the locals to a clamorous revolt against unfair taxes that made him a local hero. In the 17th century, the villagers erected a monument to the Turkish janissary on their main square, where during the first week of August they still hold the Moena Turkish Festival to celebrate “El Turco”. The show, which has already been sold to Russia, Italy, some Balkan countries and Middle East also stars Will Kemp, David Nykl, Kieran O’Reilly, Veronica Ferres, Slavko Sobin, Nick Wittman, Caroline Boulton and Maddalena Aragão.

THE END OF AN ERA

We first met Dale Jennings (Reid) and Helen Norville (Torv) in 1986 when a fledgling Dale was desperate to be a star newsreader, and Helen was fighting to be taken seriously as a journalist. Now Dale and Helen have finally achieved both these long held dreams. Dale is News At Six’s ‘King of News’, fronting the show solo he has become the most beloved name in news, a Gold Logie nominee, permanently number one in the nightly ratings. Meanwhile Helen’s fearless international reporting has won her great acclaiman and an opportunity to be the first woman to both anchor and produce her own current affairs show. But when a cynical network move sees the two former lovers pitted in direct competition, their kinship will be tested as never before. Over the course of 1989, Helen and Dale will compete to cover a cascade of historical events, from the Exxon Valdez oil spill, to the Tiananmen Square massacre, the boycotts of South Africa’s Apartheid, and the fall of the Berlin Wall which will be covered in the last episode announcing the crumbling of Dale's and Helen's private lives as well. Netflix has announced a very dull 2025 movie and series offer this week, and among them is new historical thriller mini TV series DEATH BY LIGHTNING which we first announced back in February last year when it was revealed that Matthew MacFadyen and Michael Shannon will lead the cast playing American president James Garfield and his killer Charles Guiteau, and now we have the first images from it.

BASED ON THE NOVEL

Destiny Of The Republic by Candice Millard, the series follows Garfield  who was President in 1881 and was assassinated later that year, having previously served nine terms as a Congressman. He was elected as a Senator but declined this when he became President, despite having not sought the office. He was shot by Guiteau, who felt he had played a major role in Garfield’s election. Nick Offerman as vice president Chester Arthur, Betty Gilpin as the first lady Crete Garfield, Tuppence Middleton, Ben Miles, Kyle Soller will also appear in the cast of this period set series which should arrived to the streamer later this year.

Netflix will the turn the books into series

It seems Netflix is trying to find their own All Creatures Great and Small family type of series as they have just ordered a new remake of LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE. Legendary books by Laura Ingalls Wilder with Rebecca Sonnenshine as the showrunner will be turned into a series that will be part hopeful family drama, part epic survival tale, and part origin story of the American West. This fresh adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s iconic semi-autobiographical ‘Little House’ books offers a kaleidoscopic view of the struggles and triumphs of those who shaped the frontier. The books have sold so far in over 70 million copies worldwide.

Netflix is trying it seems to create their own Ted Lasso style series and their latest effort in that field is new comedy series RUNNING POINT set in the world of basketball with Kate Hudson in the lead role. The ten episodes that will be available for streaming February 27th also have Brenda Song, Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, Fabrizio Guido, Toby Sandeman, and two insanely hot hunks Chet Hanks and Jay Ellis in the cast. HELEN MIRREN TO LEAD SWITZERLAND

In casting reel today, Helen Mirren and Alden Ehrenreich will star in Anton Corbijn's thriller movie SWITZERLAND together with Olivia Cooke. Mirren will play crime novelist and Tom Ripley creator Patricia Highsmith in the film based on a play about Highsmith’s encounter with a young literary agent (Ehrenreich). Set in 1995, an ageing Patricia Highsmith is living a secluded existence in the Swiss Alps with only her cats for company. When a pushy young man turns up at her residence, sent by her New York publisher to persuade her to write a final book in her best-selling Tom Ripley series, it becomes clear he is on a more sinister mission.

Rings of Power Galadriel Morfydd Clark is set to lead UFO thriller movie ARCTIC SKIES. The sci-fi-thriller, inspired by one of the most well-documented UFO encounters on record, follows the harrowing journey of a cargo plane crew who, while flying at 40,000 feet above the Arctic Circle, become the target of otherworldly attention. Ariyon Bakare will also star in the new thriller movie.

Prime Video has released first trailer for their new Biblical HOUSE OF DAVID historical series which will depict the ascent of biblical icon, David (Michael Iskan- der) who eventually becomes the most famous king of Israel. The series, set to open with three episodes on February 27th follows the once-mighty King Saul (Ali Suliman) as he falls victim to his own pride. At the direction of God, the prophet Samuel (Stephen Lang) anoints an unlikely, outcast teenager as the new king. As Saul loses his power over his kingdom, David finds himself on a journey to discover and fulfill his destiny, navigating love, loss and violence in the court of the very man he’s destined to replace. Scandi Alliance, which consists of Scandinavian national broadcasters, has announced ROYAL BLOOD epic TV series as their first production. Blått Blod will be a high end historical drama set to air in 2027 on TV2 in Norway, TV2 in Denmark and TV4 in Sweden. The six part epic miniseries will depict the dramatic power struggles between the Nordic royal houses between 1807 and 1814, a period of geopolitical change as Europe’s great powers collided. It will follow ambitious players from Denmark, Norway and Sweden as they seek to leverage power using any means necessary in their quests for supremacy. It will also air in Germany, Belgium and Netherlands.

Back in September I told you that  MGM+ will start shooting their ten episodes new ROBIN HOOD series from John Glenn and director Jonathan English this February in Serbia and now newcomer Jack Patten has been announced as the lead.  It will bring a modern energy to the classic tale of the roguish outlaw hero who stole from the rich and gave to the poor, and the epic love story between him and a courageous and daring Marian. Following the Norman invasion of England, Rob – a Saxon forester’s son – and Marian, the daughter of a Norman lord fall in love and work together to fight for justice and freedom. As Rob rises as the leader of a band of rebel outlaws, Marian infiltrates the power at court, and both work together to thwart royal corruption and bring peace to the land. It is aimed to air at the end of 2025.

While Hollywood is sleeping your trusted spy is going global again and taking you over to sweet mother Russia where we managed to dig out just for you first images from new historical adventure movie LEVSHA (which means Lefty) which started filming earlier this winter in two Russian capitals Moscow and Sankt Petersburg with Yuri Kolokolnikov in the lead role. The premiere of the film based on Nikolai Leskov's story is scheduled for January 2026.

  THE STORY IS SET BACK IN
St. Petersburg, 1885. The Russian Empire is on the brink of war with Great Britain. A mysterious device was discovered in the palace of Emperor Alexander III (Artur Ivanov) - a mechanical flea. A British spy with advanced engineering technology is operating in the capital. Secret police officer Ogarev (Fedor Fedotov) is sent to the foreman of the Tula arms factory, known as Lefty (Yuri Kolokolnikov). Together, using Lefty's inventions, they must eliminate a dangerous spy and save the Empire from internal and external threats. In pursuit of a British spy, Ogarev and Lefty are forced to pull off a daring scam, steal the first car in Russia and save the Emperor. Ogarev's courage and resourcefulness, combined with Lefty's ingenuity, create the perfect duo to confront an enemy who is much closer than they expected.
