  THE FILM 

 is both an epic love story and an intimate portrayal of two people who struggle to express their love for one another, told over the course of a decade. We have first images from two festive movies coming to Netflix this Christmas starting with GOODBYE JUNE a directorial debut of Kate Winslet who also stars in it next to Toni Collette, Timothy Spall and Helen Mirren. It will be out December 24th with a short cinema release before that. It’s nearly Christmas when an unexpected turn in their mother’s health thrusts four adult siblings, and their exasperating father, into chaos as they navigate messy family dynamics in the face of potential loss. But their quick-witted mother, June, orchestrates her decline on her own terms – with biting humor, blunt honesty, and a lot of love.

Also hitting Netflix ahead of the Holidays, November 26th is romantic festive comedy JINGLE BELL HEIST which stars Olivia Holt as Sophia, a sharp-witted retail worker, alongside Connor Swindells as Nick, a down-on-his-luck repairman. The two are small-time thieves with their eyes on the same Christmas Eve score: robbing London’s most notorious department store. Forced into an uneasy alliance, as secrets surface and feelings for each other deepen, Sophia and Nick put their relationship and the heist in jeopardy.

ITV and Australian Stan have released first trailer from their new TV series THE HACK with David Tennant, Robert Carlyle and Toby Jones in the lead roles of the show which revolves around the demise of Rupert Murdoch's News of the World, as well as the investigation and arrest of over 100 individuals, plus the subsequent Leveson Inquiry. The series is primarily given from the perspectives of investigative journalist Nick Davies (Tennant) – who helped uncover evidence of phone-hacking at the now-defunct tabloid News of the World – and Metropolitan Police detective Dave Cook (Carlyle). Cook was leading inquiries into the 1987 murder of private investigator Daniel Morgan in a pub car park, which remains unsolved to this day and has been a source of controversy and criticism towards the Met. Across a decade-long time frame, from 2002 to 2012, the series will deftly interweave these two investigations. Toby Jones plays then-Guardian editor-in-chief Alan Rusbridger and Dougray Scott also stars.See the trailer below:

He quickly becomes entangled in a series of cold-case murders as he grapples with the mystery of his father's death and his sister's murder 25 years ago. Our dearest Sam Claflin will lead as Laz, a well-respected forensic psychologist who has spent his whole life running from the pain of his past. It is only now when he returns home that he is forced to finally face up to it.

  BILL NIGHY WILL BE DOCTOR LAZARUS

Psychologist and father to Laz, Jenna and Sutton. A beloved figure within his community, he shares his son’s charm, dry humor, and charisma. In death, he wants his son to understand that they are more similar than Laz thinks.

Since her sister’s murder Jenna has buried herself in a world of spiritual practice but now when her brother returns home and starts experiencing unexplained phenomena, she is forced to confront secrets from her own past. Coming from ITV is a trailer with Sheridan Smith in their new mini TV series I FOUGHT THE LAW based on Ann Ming’s book For the Love of Julie, which tells the heart-breaking story of Ming’s 15-year-long battle for her daughter Julie’s murderer to face justice. Ming’s daughter was found in the bathroom of her house in 1990, 80 days after she had disappeared, and the man who killed her was twice acquitted following mistrials before eventually admitting to the murder. The archaic double jeopardy law meant he couldn’t be tried twice for the same crime and it is this law that Ming and her family successfully overturned. The series will hit the screens this Sunday August 31st going head to head with BBC's King and Conqueror saga.

More than a year ago I told you that Oscar winner Chloe Zhao will helm the movie adaptation of Maggie O'Farrell's HAMNET but now we have the first trailer with Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley in the leads. This historical fiction novel imagines the story of Agnes, the wife of the world’s most famous writer, William Shakespeare, as she struggles to come to terms with the loss of her only son, Hamnet. It charts the emotional, familial and artistic consequences of that loss, bringing to life a human and heart-stopping story as the backdrop to the creation of The Bard’s Hamlet. Joe Alwyn also stars in the movie out December 12th.

I have two historical books today for you that are being turned into TV series, beginning with MURDER AS A FINE ART from David Morrell Victorian mystery thriller to be turned into series by A Higher Standard and Harris Films. Set in 1850s London, the novel blends fact and fiction as it follows Thomas De Quincey, the real-life and otorious opium-eater and essayist, as he’s implicated in a series of gruesome murders that appear to be inspired by his own sensational essay, “On Murder Considered as One of the Fine Arts.” To clear his name, De Quincey must team up with his brilliant daughter Emily and a pair of Scotland Yard detectives to stop a killer who’s turning theory into deadly practice. 

 

ARMY OF SHADOWS AT CHANNEL 4

Channel 4 is looking to make a six part drama out of Joseph Kessel's book ARMY OF SHADOWS, which was already turned into a classic film depicting the emergence of the French Resistance to the Nazi occupation of France during World War 2. 

Channel 4 is adapting it into a series

Channel 4 will switch it into the story of how resistance takes shape in a near-future authoritarian Britain. Under de facto American occupation, a former British army officer builds a covert resistance cell from scratch - navigating betrayal, moral compromise and the tension between patience and action - as young recruits fight to reclaim their country and their futures. Across six thrilling episodes, the series chronicles the early days of the British Resistance. From first kills and internal betrayals to propaganda campaigns, internment camps, and a climactic political assassination - this is a story about how freedom is taken and how it can be won back. Ronan Bennett is writing the series.

Sky has revealed first images with Will Sharpe in the lead role in their AMADEUS mini series set within the musical hub of bustling Vienna at the end of the 18th century, where 25 year-old Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart arrives in the city no longer a child and determined to carve his own path. Recently unemployed and without the management of his father, Amadeus finds an unlikely ally in a young singer who will become his wife, fiery Constanze (Gabrielle Creevy). Her connections help bring him into the orbit of the court composer Antonio Salieri (Paul Bettany), setting the three of them on a collision course that will ultimately define their lives and their legacies for years to come. Hero of his own story but villain to history, Salieri’s envy turns vengeful as he uses any means necessary to thwart Mozart and protect his position in the establishment. The five part drama will air later this year on Sky.

Channel 5 and PBS Masterpiece have revealed first images from the 6th season of the beloved series ALL CREATURES GREAT AND SMALL which returns soon over in Great Britain. Based on James Herriot's books it will again have six episodes plus the traditional Christmas special in December. In USA the series will return probably at the beginning of the next year as it usually does in January. Season seven has been ordered already.

 

SEASON SIX RETURNS TO

 Yorkshire Dales for more human and animal tales but this time, the Skeldale gang is in a different situation, just as the war in Europe is coming to a close in 1945. Nicholas Ralph reprises his role as vet James Herriot, alongside Samuel West as his business partner Siegfried Farnon. Anna Madeley returns as dear Mrs. Hall, followed by Rachel Shenton (Helen Herriot), Callum Woodhouse (Tristan Farnon), Patricia Hodge (Mrs. Pumphrey), Tony Pitts (Richard Alderson) and Imogen Clawson (Jenny). Joining the cast for the new chapter will be Lucy-Jo Hudson, Gaia Wise, Jonathan Hyde, Philip Martin Brown and Chris Gascoyne.
