MONTEZUMA EPIC!
WITH STEVEN SPIELBERG AND JAVIER BARDEM?
Oh, you know how there's nothing that your HOLLYWOOD SPY lurvs more than a new epic: Deadline reports that Steven Spielberg is eying MONTEZUMA an epic tale of the kinship and ultimately the bloody collision between Montezuma and Cortez as the latter led the Spanish infiltration into Mexico. With Javier Bardem being eyed for the role of the Spanish explorer and invader Cortez, the movie would be based on the 50 years old script to be rewritten by Steve Zaillian who had worked with Spielberg on THE SCHINDLER'S LIST and who is currently producing Ridley Scott's Egyptian epic EXODUS. The original script was written by Dalton Trumbo half a century ago for Kirk Douglas and has been considered one of the greatest unmade scripts.
DEZZY'S HISTORY LESSON
When Hernando Cortez came to Mexico in the early 16th century he was a guest at the court of the Aztec ruler, but he soon infected the Aztecs with lust for gold, with religion, with some European diseases which all later lead to battles and fights. After MONTEZUMA was killed, Cortez actually impregnated his daughter, the Aztec princess.

FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD
THE FIRST IMAGES ARE HERE!
And speaking of period set movies, here are the first pictures from FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD movie adaptation of Thomas Hardy classic novel which will hit the big screens sometime this year starring Carey Muligan, Juno Temple, Michael Sheen, Tom Sturridge, Matthias Schoenaerts and directed by Thomas Vinterberg. The story follows a headstrong young woman named Bathsheba Everdene (Carey Muligan), who realizes her life’s happiness depends very much on who she chooses to marry. Her suitors each come from different backgrounds. Gabrielle Oak (Matthias Schoenaerts) is a sweet-hearted sheep farmer who is drawn in by her independent spirit. Frank Troy (Tom Sturridge) is a sexy, dashing and impulsive Sergeant, who promises passion. William Boldwood (Michael Sheen) is a wealthy, but older gentleman, who could offer her luxury at least.
DEZZY'S LITERATURE LESSON
Here's an encouraging info for you writers: although FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD was Hardy's fourth novel, it was actually his first literary success.

Very interesting Montezuma , I eagerly the first images and possibly a trailer ;)
ReplyDeleteCheers
I really hope they make it... this is just the first rumour on it :)
DeleteWell, if Dalton Trumbo wrote the original script, you know it will be a thoughtful look at exploitation and oppression rather than simply portraying the Spaniards as liberators or some such nonsense.
ReplyDeleteYes, hope they show it as it was, and hope they don't turn it into a psychotic madness like Mel did in APOCALYPTO.
DeleteCortez, what a guy, huh?
ReplyDeleteTough choices for Bathsheba.
Yes, poor lass, I feel so sorry for her /ironic smile/ she had to choose between three super hot guys....
DeleteI think I will like Montezuma.
ReplyDeleteAs long as there is not a sequel entitled Montezuma's Revenge.
You know somebody mentioned the very same thing in comments over at Deadline :)))
DeleteFirst thing to pop into my head.
Delete:)
DeleteWaiting for Montezuma...interesting and intriguing...
ReplyDeleteHighly interesting, Phil
DeleteI swear, Dez, the pups do have lots of awake time but it sure doesn't look like it from my blog, eh? They want to be outside playing in the snow, but it's just too cold to allow them much time for that today.
ReplyDeleteBurrrrrr (from this side of the world).
You can let them play outside as much as they want, they're dogs, they have fur ;) My dogs lived outside when I had them and they never had problems with it :)
DeleteThat's good that yours didn't. Wiggy our big dog has a breathing problem and when it's too cold, she will fall right over. Very bad. So no outside too long for her. Though she does love the cold, it doesn't love her.
DeleteFall over? You mean literally? That must be a strange sight to see. It must be because she was raised inside which is not her natural environment so her immune system didn't develop well. Poor dog. But at least she has a warm bed inside.
DeleteWiggy is a rescue dog. When we got her, she didn't even know how to use stairs. But ever since she got her operation, she's had a hard time breathing. Yes, she will literally stumble and fall over. So we keep her good and warm and spoil her rotten.
DeletePS: And we also spoil Bug, also a rescue. Best place to get a pup. Never mind those high priced pure dogs, we go for the pound puppies, every single time.
DeletePoor Wiggy :( I'm with you on taking dogs from pounds. I'd never do it any other way. And the same goes for kids. I'd never have my own while there are babies in orphanages
DeleteBefore we got Wiggy, she had a brother and sister both adopted quickly. But little Wig was left behind because they shoppers said she wiggled too much. Seriously. She wiggled too much?
DeleteWhen I went to dog pounds before, I would always choose the ugliest dog to take home, the one nobody else would ever want :)
DeleteI had two dogs, Bob and Bruno, who were record holders in old age. They were both more than 25 years old when they died. Bob was actually older than me when he passed away from ancient age.
Wow, 25, that is amazing. Great names too, goes well together.
Deleteyep, especially in dog years
DeleteTwo very good projects to look forward to. I'm not familiar with Far From the Maddening Crowd, but I do like Carey Mulligan. She comes across very sincere.
ReplyDeleteUnlike you, I don't like her, she, that Emma brat from HARRY PLOPPER and Mia Wasikowksa have something artificial about them.
DeleteBut I'm very much excited about MONTEZUMA project!
Montezuma sounds like an epic but tragic story, should be a visually stunning story about greed!
ReplyDeleteIt will be a sobering tragedy for sure, Fran
DeleteI hope they pick Javier Bardem! He's hot!
ReplyDeleteHe is interested for the role
DeleteCortez actually impregnated his daughter, the Aztec princess? Charming creature!
ReplyDeleteMONTEZUMA sounds good though :)
Wasn't he delightful? And he also brought them chicken pox and sexually transmitted diseases and ebil religion naturally....
DeleteFar From the Maddening Crowd sounds like it will be good. I liked your history lesson. I had no idea about Cortez impregnating the Aztec princess.
ReplyDeleteyep, he was pure ebil!
DeleteOoh, I will look forward to Far From the Maddening Crowd :)
ReplyDeletewe do love period set movies :)
DeleteMontezuma looks cool??
ReplyDeleteIt sure does, Ray
DeleteUnfortunately I'm not big on period set movies, or romantic ones. :(
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that.
DeleteMontezuma seems like a neat concept.
ReplyDeleteand an epic one
DeleteI'm baaaack!!!!!!! I hope your Christmas and new year was awesome.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the pics and MONTEZUMA sounds awesome!!!
Mine were horrid as always, but hope yours were nice and fine.
DeleteWe do like MONTEZUMA project
Noooooooooooooooooo!!!! As Tyra Banks says, 'Don't let others dull your shine' ;)
DeleteI've never actually had nice holidays in my life, but I'm used to it :) Bad karma, I guess.
Deletebad karma??!! Have you been a bad boy?
DeletePS I don't believe in karma. ;)
I don't either, but there is no other way to describe my utter lack of luck in life
DeleteMontezuma does sound like another epic film to come. Looking forward to see Carey Mulligan in that role.
ReplyDeleteHope they really make it in the end since Spielberg has a tendency of announcing and never making projects
DeleteMontezuma Revenge!... I wouldn't be interested. The other film, sign me up...
ReplyDeleteYou're signed, sealed and will be delivered too
DeleteMontezuma! They may make it for me! And that movie with Matthias I want to see. We have to support our fellow countrymen!
ReplyDeleteGreetings
Peter
We do love Matthias a lot! I'm happy to see him playing in Hollywood!
