After recent Lalka, Netflix has started shooting their new eight part Polish original series NIGHTS AND DAYS based on Maria Dabrowska's famous classic with Tomasz Schuchardt and Jaśmina Polak in the lead roles. At a time when Poland has long been absent from the map of Europe, Barbara Ostrzenska a proud, but impoverished noblewoman learns that her great love is marrying another woman. Determined to escape spinsterhood,

Tomasz Schuchardt played the lead in The Doll series as well

 she marries Bogumil Niechcic, a modest former insurgent and property manager. His peace of mind and sense of fulfillment that his work gives him contrast with her restless nature. Over the thirty years shown on screen, they build a life together in the countryside, but Barbara’s yearning for passion and lost status constantly clashes with her daily reality. Disappointed with life, yet in a sense fulfilled in it, Barbara remains a constant challenge for her loved ones and for herself. It spans from the aftermath of the 1863 January Uprising through World War I.

Netflix has released first images last month and now we also have the trailer for the third and final season of their historical series THE EMPRESS about Austro Hungarian empress Sisi which will stream from November 12th with  Devrim Lingnau back as kaiserin Elisabeth and Philip Froissant as kaiser Franz. After the romantic wedding of free-spirited Bavarian countess Elisabeth and Emperor Franz Joseph, life at court quickly became a golden cage for Elisabeth. The third season depicts the slow downfall of their marriage and their characters. 

 

  WHAT IS THE STORY OF THE NEW SEASON? 

After the devastating Sardinian War, Emperor Franz (Philip Froissant) returns a traumatized man. The guilt of having lost thousands of young men on the battlefield weighs heavily on him. Elisabeth (Devrim Lingnau Islamoğlu) tries to stand by him — she fights passionately for her marriage while at the same time advocating for what would now be right for the empire — yet in vain. While Franz’s infidelity further shakes the marriage, resistance at court and her own health force Elisabeth to leave Vienna and set off to a distant island to recover. By chance, the Empress meets the leader of the Hungarian revolution, Count Andrássy (Dejan Bućin), on her journey. Their encounter is immediately marked by strong intellectual and physical attraction. Almost simultaneously, Franz’s brother Maximilian (JohannesNussbaum) sets off on a great adventure with his wife Marie (Josephine Thiesen): he is to ascend the imperial throne in far-off Mexico. In the end, Elisabeth must decide: follow her heart unconditionally, or be a sincere empress to her people. According to Deadline, Netflix has nabbed TV adaptation rights on AMERICAN ROYALS young adult fantasy book by Katharine McGee which imagines an alternate history where George Washington was anointed king of the United States instead of being elected President and chronicles the lives of his young dependents. As customary for the YA adult genre, there is romance, with two princesses vying for the ultimate crown and two girls vying for the prince’s heart. Ted Malawer is penning the script after working on Prime Video's Red, White and Royal Blue. The book series itself has four books.

With only the clues from the DVD as her guide, she sets out to find him.

Netflix has released a trailer for their animated movie RAY GUNN from director Brad Bird who previously did The Incredibles franchise.

Ray Gunn will stream December 18th

 The film is a blend of sci-fi and classic detective movies from the ’40s and has the story set in Metropia, a gigantic city in an alternate future as seen from 1939, where our lead character private eye Raymond Gunn is drawn into a case involving aliens, murder, and a multimedia star named Venus Nova. Coming from Skydance Animation the film will stream from December 18th but will have a December 8th limited cinema release as well. Sam Rockwell lends his voice to the titular character, with Scarlett Johansson as Venus Nova and Tom Waits also in the voice cast. See the trailer below and tell us what you think.

As the night descends into chaos, both an inward journey and an outward adventure ensue, where the line between performance and belief, salvation and sacrifice, begins to blur. I have already presented this series to you earlier this year and last year, but costume drama THE DOLL, new Netflix Polish original, is arriving to the streamer Septem- ber 16th next week and you can watch the trailer below.

 

  THE DOLL

 (Lalka) is the ambitious adaptation of Bolesław Prus’ famous classic novel. Directed by Paweł Maślona the series is set against the backdrop of 19th century Warsaw and follows the complex tension between the wealthy merchant Stanisław Wokulski (Tomasz Schuchardt) and the aristocratic Izabela Łącka (Sandra Drzymalska). Written between 1887 and 1889, the book tells the story of Stanisław Wokulski, a successful merchant who finds himself torn between his progressive ideals and his infatuation with Izabela Łęcka, a haughty and vacuous aristocrat. Covering the themes of unrequited love, class conflict and Poland’s stagnation under the Third Partition the six episode saga will be available for your streaming and enjoyment as of next week, will you tune in?

Netflix has revealed a trailer and the September 25th streaming date for their new Spanish language period set series THE FINAL PROBLEM based on the bestselling novel of the same name by acclaimed Spanish author Arturo Pérez-Reverte. This new five episode mini series blends thriller and mystery in an immersive period setting starring Jose Coronado, María Valverde, Martiño Rivas, Maribel Verdú, Gonzalo de Castro, Cristina Kovani, José Condessa  and Pepón Nieto. You can also check out the character posters which I posted in our previous article on this drama last year.  This is not the only new period set series coming to the streamer from Espagna, as sometime later this year we can also expect their Lobo medieval series.

Among the slate of new Mexican series in which Netflix will invest one billion dollars in the upcoming years, is also MAL DE AMORES or LOVESICK  a TV series adaptation of Ángeles Mastretta’s novel. Directed by her daughter, Catalina Aguilar Mastretta, the series, which will stream from September 2nd, is set during the Mexican Revolution and follows Emilia Sauri, a woman torn between two passionate loves while navigating a world dominated by violence and revolution. It shows the political history of a country through the intimate life of Emilia Sauri, her family and her loves. The series tells the parallel story of the evolution of a country and Emilia's own growth. Renata Vaca will play Emilia, a woman who fights for her convictions, without renouncing her feelings. Juan Pablo Fuentes will give life to Daniel Cuenca, a revolutionary adventurer, and Ivan Amozurrutia will incarnate Dr. Antonio Zavalza, a doctor who seeks peace in the midst of civil conflict.
