Netflix has revealed a trailer and the September 25th streaming date for their new Spanish language period set series THE FINAL PROBLEM based on the bestselling novel of the same name by acclaimed Spanish author Arturo Pérez-Reverte. This new five episode mini series blends thriller and mystery in an immersive period setting starring Jose Coronado, María Valverde, Martiño Rivas, Maribel Verdú, Gonzalo de Castro, Cristina Kovani, José Condessa  and Pepón Nieto. You can also check out the character posters which I posted in our previous article on this drama last year.  This is not the only new period set series coming to the streamer from Espagna, as sometime later this year we can also expect their Lobo medieval series.

In the spring of 1959, when thirteen people were stuck by a violent storm on a small islet near Mallorca. Any of them could anticipate what is aboutto happen at the small hotel where they’re staying: Elisa Mander, a discreet British tourist, is found dead. What initially seems like a suicide soon raisesunsettling signs — it may in fact be murder. Basil, a retired actor once famous for portraying none other than Sherlock Holmes on the big screen, findshimself unexpectedly tasked with unraveling the case. In a place no one can leave, and no one can reach, every guest and staff member becomes a suspect in a crime that grows more intricate and twisted by the minute. Among the slate of new Mexican series in which Netflix will invest one billion dollars in the upcoming years, is also MAL DE AMORES or LOVESICK  a TV series adaptation of Ángeles Mastretta’s novel. Directed by her daughter, Catalina Aguilar Mastretta, the series, which will stream from September 2nd, is set during the Mexican Revolution and follows Emilia Sauri, a woman torn between two passionate loves while navigating a world dominated by violence and revolution. It shows the political history of a country through the intimate life of Emilia Sauri, her family and her loves. The series tells the parallel story of the evolution of a country and Emilia's own growth. Renata Vaca will play Emilia, a woman who fights for her convictions, without renouncing her feelings. Juan Pablo Fuentes will give life to Daniel Cuenca, a revolutionary adventurer, and Ivan Amozurrutia will incarnate Dr. Antonio Zavalza, a doctor who seeks peace in the midst of civil conflict.

Netflix has revealed some brand new images showing the lead cast of their new Spanish language period set series THE FINAL PROBLEM based on the bestselling novel of the same name by acclaimed Spanish author Arturo Pérez-Reverte. Thisnew five episode mini series blends thriller and mystery in an immersive period setting starring Jose Coronado, María Valverde, Martiño Rivas, Maribel Verdú, Gonzalo de Castro, Cristina Kovani, José Condessa and Pepón Nieto. It has been revealed today that the series will be available for streaming globally from September 25th so you can have a glamorous new mystery series to look forward to this Autumn and below the post you can also check out the announcement teaser trailer! After Brazilian Radioactive Emergency, a nuclear disaster series which quickly became one of the leading global hits for the streamer, we are getting another new television series from South America, this time it is SANTITA new Mexican seven episode long series starring Gael Garcia Bernal as the male lead with rather talentless Paulina Devila as the female lead. Available for streaming on Netflix as of April 22nd, it tells the story of María José "Santita" Cano who, after being wheelchair-bound from a crash, left her love at the altar. 20 years later, his return makes her face her past choices and test the limits of her love. have to say it looks so bland, the cast is just so amateurish and uninspired with an annoyingly bad lead. Out April 29th this Spanish language series centers on three generations of women, Clara, Blanca, and Alba, in a conservative South American country shaped by class struggle, political upheaval, and magic. It tells the epic tale of a proud and passionate family, secret loves, and bloody revolution. The Trueba family’s passions, struggles, and secrets span a century of violent social change, culminating in a crisis that hurls the proud, tyrannical patriarch and his beloved granddaughter towards opposite sides of the fence.

1950'S MALLORCA SET THE FINAL PROBLEM

Netflix has unveiled their Spanish originals slate for this year and among it are two period set series including THE FINAL PROBLEM (El problema final) which, as you remember, I announced last year. Set in 1959 it sees Jose Coronado portray a retired actor famous for playing Sherlock Holmes who finds himself investigating a real crime when a guest is found dead at a hotel on a small islet near Mallorca. The cast also features Maribel Verdú and Martiño Rivas and Jose Condessa.

 

19TH CENTURY SET LOBO SERIES

If you are in the mood for something darker, there is a historical crime series LOBO which brings us  the dark legend of Manuel Blanco Romasanta, a traveling tailor in 19th century rural Galicia who became Spain’s first documented serial killer. During his trial, he famously claimed to be a werewolf, sparking a legend that persists to this day. Luis Tosar and Tristán Ulloa lead the cast. Together with your trusted spy today you can continue our series of spotlights on the upcoming international period set series and films which we can expect on the small screens this year, and after England, France, Italy and Poland, this Sunday we are visiting Spain where their eight episode costume drama THE MAID'S DAUGHTERS (Las hijas de la criada) already streamed on Atresplayer earlier this winter and will air also on their Antena 3 network based on Sonsoles Onega's popular and award winning novel. The series was also offered to the international buyers earlier this week at Content Americas event which unveils Spain's premium TV offer each year. Verónica Sánchez, Carlota Baró, Alex Villazan, Roque Ruiz, Alejandro Vergara and Alain Hernández lead the cast in this period set mini TV series.

 THE MAID'S DAUGHTERS 

 follows two girls born at a Galician manor who swap destinies as revenge and battles for inheritance reshape a family empire. THE MAID'S DAUGHTERS is a drama set between Galicia and Cuba in the early 20th century, which offers a portrait of the time; a story full of intrigues, forbidden loves, class struggle, betrayals and envy. Family secrets emerge when twin girls are born in 1900 at Spirit Saint manor. An unexpected revenge disrupts the Valdés family, while matriarch Doña Inés fights to make her true daughter heir to an empire. 

In the peace of the Holy Spirit two girls, Clara and Catalina, come into the world. The first belongs to the maid, Renata, while the second is the daughter of the Valdés, Don Gustavo and Doña Inés. An unexpected revenge will shake the lives of those girls and all of them, and will make Doña Ines have to survive the heartbreak and pain of abandonment. And also the power struggles to turn their true daughter into the heir of an empire, in a time when women were not allowed to be owners of their lives.

I have mentioned this one a couple of times before with cast announcements and first images, but new Spanish original series from Netflix  BILLIONAIRES' BUNKER is finally ready to arrive this Friday, September 19th and I have character posters and a trailer for you. 

 

WHAT'S THE STORY 

 Imagine that World War III is about to break out and a group of billionaires takes refuge in a luxury bunker: Kimera Underground Park. Through screens, they’ll watch the bewildering spectacle of the world they knew collapsing above their heads. As the situation outside becomes increasingly terrifying, they’ll enjoy an underground city with basketball court, restaurant, zen garden, cocktail bar, psychologist’s couch, gym and spa. Their ancient privilege will be reduced to a life adapted to a luxurious hole, an underground universe full of enigmas where a wound from the past will explode between two conflicting families.

Netflix has released first images from the second season of their Spanish hospital series BREATHLESS which returns October 31st. In the new season, the Joaquín Sorolla Hospital has transitioned to private management, challenging the values and ethics of its medical staff. At the heart of the chaos, Patricia (Najwa Nimri) continues her battle with cancer while deepening emotional connection with Néstor (Borja Luna). Meanwhile, Jésica (Blanca Suárez) tries to reclaim her confidence as she wrestles with her feelings for both Lluís (Alfonso Bassave) and Biel (Manu Ríos). Elsewhere, Pilar (Aitana Sánchez-Gijón) faces new complications with her son’s addiction, but unexpectedly becomes an ally to Quique (Xóan Fórneas) when controversial decisions from the hospital’s new leadership push him into murky territory. According to Variety, M Content and Irish Vico Films will produce together a historical epic series THE PATRICIOS. Created and written by Amaya Muruzábal, this series based on true facts is set in 1846 and follows the Saint Patrick’s Battalion during the U.S.–Mexico War, when a group of Irish immigrants enlisted in the Texas Rangers deserted the U.S. army to join the Mexican side. They fought until their final stand at San Ángel, when they were captured and sentenced to death. Julian de Tavira who helmed Hernan and Like Water for Chocolate will be directing.
