Cadbury’s chocolate bar. In 1860s Birmingham, when chocolate as we know it doesn’t yet exist, two very different brothers, Richard (Toby Regbo) and George Cadbury (Harry Gilby), find themselves in charge of their family’s failing cocoa business. Together, they have the radical genius and burning ambition to turn Cadbury into one of the world’s most beloved confectioners – if they can only learn to trust and rely on each other. Their sister Maria (Jessica Barden) is navigating her own role within the family and the business, but things become even more complicated when she falls in love with Cadbury’s biggest rival, Francis Fry (Ben Hardy) and is forced to question where her

true loyalties really lie. Infused with historical delights and magical invention, The Cadburys is about how we build, break and rebuild the bonds of family - and how the sweetest things in life are rarely simple. Joanna Scanlan will also star.

  1. Have never tried Cadbury...for me, Lindt is the best plus there are so many good brands of chocolate in Germany.

    1. The Germans should then make a series about their own chocolate makers. Lindt is too expensive here, sadly, have never tried it.

  2. This looks really promising, Dezmond! Reading you, House of Guinness came to mind straight away, which I watched a few months ago. It was not bad at all, and it is curious because it shares that same atmosphere, with that very stark contrast between the opulence of the newly rich and the soot of industrial cities. These kinds of stories draw me in because, beyond one being about chocolate and the other about beer, they show very well that behind the huge brands we now see in supermarkets there was a tremendous human cost. They are not just telling you the story of a factory, but the dirty laundry and private life of a family. The engine is the usual drama: siblings with opposite personalities who have to choose between supporting one another or stepping on one another to gain control of the business. Besides, I like the weight they give to the women. They are not left standing by while the men make the decisions; they have to fight twice as hard to find their place in a world that wanted them invisible, while also dealing with brutal dilemmas of loyalty when love enters the picture with the competition. In the end, what hooks you is seeing that these empires were not built only on good ideas, but on fierce rivalries, family tension and some very hard decisions. I’m definitely adding it to my list! I prefer chocolate to beer. A big cool hug. Tonight, six ceiling fans and two air conditioners running full blast so I can sleep. I managed it.

    1. I have Guinness downloaded but have not yet watched it, it is nice that it has been ordered for the second season. Oktoberfest: Beer and Blood was also a similar series a few years ago.

Believe it or not, we are having two cool nights with just 11C during night, so I am trying to cool the palace down as much as possible before the heat strikes us again this weekend and then it is hell till the end of summer with up to 50C predicted for the end of July.
