Almost three years ago I told you that Prime Video is planing a Spanish language series adaptation of Isabel Allende's THE HOUSE OF THE SPIRITS

Prime will stream it in over 240 countries around the world

which Eva Longoria is executive producing. Alfonso Herrera, Dolores Fonzi, Nicole Wallace, Juan Pablo Raba and Fernanda Castillo will star in the series set to arrive next year and we have the first image today. The popular literary classic is a family saga that follows the extraordinary lives of three generations of women in the Trueba family. Set in a remote South American country, this timeless drama, with tints of Magical Realism, takes us on an epic journey of fortune, intrigue, love, and fate throughout the 20th century. The book was previously adapted into an Oscar winning film with Glenn Close, Meryl Streep, Jeremy Irons, Antonio Banderas, Vanessa Redgrave.

According to Variety, Chile’s Fabula and Spain’s Alea Media have unveiled they will turn A LONG PETAL OF THE SEA 2019 novel by Isabel Allende into a TV series. It will be her latest novel  to be adapted after “The House of the Spirits,” “Of Love and Shadows” and “Inés of My Soul”. The story begins in the Spanish Civil War when a young doctor, Victor Dalmau, together with his friend, pianist Roser Bruguera, flee Barcelona. They end up sailing to exile in Chile on the Winnipeg, a ship chartered by larger-than-life poet Pablo Neruda which carries 2,000 Spaniards to Valparaíso. Doing so the two embark on a journey in search of the peace and freedom they lacked in their homeland. The title of the novel itself was taken from Neruda.

Set during the gold rush of 1849, the series will take place in Chile and California. The series will have an international cast and an English show runner and writer.

The book which was sold in more than 70 million copies to date has been translated in almost 40 different languages following the triumphs and tragedies of three generations of the rich rancher Trueba family in Chile over the twentieth century.

Another period set literary classic that is getting a new more modern movie adaptation is Anna Sewell's popular novel BLACK BEAUTY! Ashley Avis is set to direct the movie which will put the events from the 1877 book into a modern setting following Jo Green, a teenager who recently lost her parents, and who is sent to live with her uncle at a horse and animal sanctuary on Long Island.
