Arriving to BBC Two this Thursday July 24th is their new drama UNFORGIVABLE which, set and filmed in Liverpool, examines the extensive ripple effect of abuse from multiple perspectives and how those involved can try to move forwards in the midst of the devastation. The fictional drama centres around the Mitchell family who are dealing with the devastating aftermath of an act of abuse perpetrated by a member of their own family. Having served his prison sentence, Joe (Bobby Schofield)  arrives at St Maura's, an institution which offers him a home and rehabilitation after his release. With the support of Katherine (Anna Maxwell Martin), an ex-nun, Joe undertakes therapy sessions in the hope of understanding what led him to commit the abuse. Simultaneously, his sister,  Anna (Anna Friel), is dealing with the enormous impact that Joe's crime has had on her family - her sons, Tom (Austin Haynes) and Peter (Finn McParland), and her father, Brian (David Threlfall).

TV SERIES ARRIVES TO NETFLIX IN AUGUST

I usually do not watch Korean and Asian series, but this one seems very interesting so I thought I should share it with you: BON APPETITE, YOUR MAJESTY 

The series will start August 16th on Netflix

twelve episode history fantasy culinary comedy arrives to Netflix August 16th. It was previously known as The Tyrant's Chef and the 70 minute episodes will stream weekly.

 

 THE STORY FOLLOWS

Yeon Ji-Young (Lim Yoon-A) a French chef with a cheerful and determined personality. One day, she wins a French cooking competition, but she somehow finds herself transported to the Joseon era. She happens to serve her food to King Lee Heon (Lee Chae-Min) of Joseon. He is the worst tyrant who wields absolute power. He does have extraordinary sense of taste. He is able to taste differences of food when even the weather changes. He happens to try Yeon Ji-Young's food and likes what she made. He decides to take her to the royal palace and have her cook for him. Yeon Ji-Young, who was offered work at a Michelin 3-star rated restaurant in Paris, finds herself working for the tyrant King Lee Heon and presents fusion royal cuisine just for him.

After the Musketeers and Count Monte Cristo another big screen novel adaptation in France will be LES MISERABLES done this time by Studiocanal and Fred Cavaye. Set against the backdrop of revolutionary uprisings in France, it follows the character of Jean Valjean, a peasant sentenced to five years’ hard labour for stealing a loaf of bread whose story spans several years as he is released from prison and reintegrated into society,

Benjamin Lavernhe, Tahar Rahim and Vincent Lindon will lead

yet pursued by a police inspector on his trail. Vincent Lindon leads the cast in the role of Jean Valjean, with Tahar Rahim as his nemesis Inspector Javert. Benjamin Lavernhe and Camille Cottin are evil innkeepers Thénardier and Madame Thénardier. Noemie Merlant plays the tragic figure of Fantine, whose daughter, Cosette, Valjean takes in as his own. Now shooting, it will arrive November 2026.

NETFLIX ORDERS LIVE ACTION ASSASSINS' CREED TV SERIES BASED ON THE POPULAR VIDEO GAME

Netflix has announced that they have ordered a live action series based on ASSASSIN'S CREED video games with Westworld's Roberto Patino and Halo's David Wiener as show runners and producers. The high-octane thriller will focus on the secret war between two shadowy factions — one set on determining mankind’s future through control and manipulation, while the other fights to preserve free will. The series follows its characters across pivotal historical events as they battle to shape humanity’s destiny. There was a movie version with Michael Fassbender back in 2016.

Jack Lowden will lead the new series

According to Screen Daily, our dearest boy Jack Lowden will, beside shooting the seventh season of Slow Horses, also lead a TV series adaptation of METROPOLIS, the final novel in the Berlin Noir novel series by Philip Kerr. He wrote 14 novels in the series before he died in 2018. Tom Shankland, who recently helmed The Leopard saga for Netflix, is directing the period set drama for Apple TV Plus. The series focuses on the character of detective Bernie Gunther. METROPOLIS, set in 1928, tells the origin story of Gunther, a police officer newly promoted to the elite Berlin Murder Squad who must investigate what seems to be a serial killer targeting victims on the fringes of society.

Pixar and the producers of Inside Out have released the fun first teaser trailer for their new animated adventure movie HOPPERS which is ready to hop its way into the cinemas March 6th next year directed by Daniel Chong and with Jon Hamm in the voice cast. 

 After a group of scientists invent a way for human brains to inhabit mechanical bodies, Mabel Tanaka uses their technology to embody a realistic robotic beaver and thwart a construction company's plot to destroy the local animal habitat. In HOPPERS, the main character, Mabel, gets to discover the animal kingdom as an animal, which can be weird and often hilarious. Mabel undercover in the animal world leads to a wild, roller coaster ride of a movie, with all the heart you expect from a classic Pixar film.

Netflix has released exciting first trailer for their new political thriller mini TV series HOSTAGE which will be ready for your streaming pleasure from August 21st. Suranne Jones, who also serves as an executive producer of the series, plays Abigail Dalton, the newly elected British prime minister whose popularity is waning due to an ongoing healthcare crisis. Across the Channel, Vivienne Toussaint (Julie Delpy), who made history as the country’s first female French president, is campaigning for re-election no matter what it takes. A summit between the two takes a turn for the tense when Dalton’s husband (Ashley Thomas) is kidnapped, forcing her to choose between protecting her family and her country and Tousaint becomes a victim of blackmail, leaving the pair locked in a fierce rivalry, both fighting for political, and physical, survival. In the five part series Corey Mylchreest plays Matheo Lewis, Toussaint’s stepson; Lucian Msamati is Kofi Adomako, Dalton’s chief of staff, James Cosmo plays Max Dalton, her ailing father; and Jehnny Beth is Adrienne Pelletier, Toussaint’s chief of staff.

After eight previous seasons which included Peter I: The First and the Last and Empresses and also Catherine The Great, lavish Russian historical docuseries THE EMPIRE will finish with three part ALEXANDER III and four part NICHOLAS II last two Russian tzars. ALEXANDER III will see Valeriy Smekalov in the lead role. With the accession of Emperor Alexander III, the era of radical reforms and rampant terrorism was replaced by an era of stability. The Russian Empire, continuing to expand, did not wage foreign wars. The economy began to grow rapidly, which was facilitated by the introduction of protectionism. A distinctive Russian style developed in art, and descendants of merchants and manufacturers who had received a European education gradually entered the arena of public life. “The most Russian tsar,” as Alexander III was called by his contemporaries, ruled for only thirteen and a half years, but left behind a rich political and artistic legacy. 

 

 NICHOLAS II THE LAST TZAR 

Danile Shevchenko will play the last tzar of Russia. The impetus given to the Russian economy by Alexander III led to a real industrial boom during the reign of Nicholas II: the expansion of railway construction, industrialization, and the strengthening of the ruble. But at the same time, social stratification increased, which led to the growth of the revolutionary movement. The reforms of Prime Minister P. A. Stolypin returned Russia to the path of sustainable development, but the First World War intervened in the course of events. New political upheavals ended with the February Revolution, during which the last Russian emperor abdicated the throne. Hope we get a trailer soon so stay tuned for more news from Russia.

Untamed starts on Netflix this July

After the first teaser a few weeks ago, Netflix has released official trailer with Eric Bana and Sam Neill as leads in their new mini series UNTAMED which arrives July 17th.  Eric Bana plays Kyle Turner, a special agent for the National Parks Service who works to enforce human law in nature’s vast wilderness. The investigation of a brutal death sends Turner on a collision course with the dark secrets within the park, and in his own past. Neill will play Paul Souter who has been the chief park ranger in Yosemite for half his life. He’s a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend to Turner. He’s comfortable in all facets of his job, whether it’s dealing with crime inside the park or with the bureaucracy around it. Rosemarie DeWitt will play Turner's ex wife, with Wilson Bethel as Shane Maguire, a former army ranger, who now uses his skills as the park’s Wildlife Management Officer. Maguire’s a loner, preferring to live by himself in the wilderness where it’s easier to follow his own rules.

THE STORY FOLLOWS 

n ordinary man who divides his life between his shipbuilding business and his family. Faced with a strange and inexplicable meteorological phenomenon while on the high seas, he begins to shrink inexorably, without science being able to explain it. Suddenly trapped in his own basement, just a few inches tall, he has to fight to survive in this ordinary environment that has become hostile. Australian Foxtel and streamer Binge have released a trailer for the third season of their THE TWELVE series with Sam Neill in the lead role as a prosecutor with a new case and twelve new jury members in each season. 

 

 Out August 4th, new season titled THE TWELVE: CAPE ROCK KILLER is unlike any other as things get personal for Brett Colby (Sam Neill) after he is thrust into a murder trial to defend the husband of a life-long friend accused of a heinous murder. As the trial unravels a deeper mystery, a 1968 cold case murder of two teens is re-opened, and the twelve jurors sworn in for the trial find their own lives changed by the experience. Ewen Leslie leads the jury with Danielle Cormack also in the cast. The eight episode series also airs on BBC in UK.

While we are waiting for Netflix to set the streaming date for Steven Knight's period set series HOUSE OF GUINNESS about one of Europe’s most famous and enduring dynasties – The Guinness Family, I thought I could share with you some set images showing James Norton and Anthony Boyle, who will play Arthur Guinness. Set in 19th century Dublin and New York, it will focus on the consequences of the death of Benjamin Guinness, the man responsible for the extraordinary success of the Guinness brewery, and the far-reaching impact of his cunning will on the fate of his four adult children, Arthur, Edward, Anne, and Ben, as well as on a group of Dublin characters who work and interact with the growing juggernaut that is one of the most beloved alcoholic drinks today. I told you previosly that David Wilmot will be Bonnie Champion with Louis Partridge also in the cast. Danielle Galligan, Seamus O’Hara, Jack Gleeson, Michael McElhatton and Fionn O’Shea will join them as well.

HISTORICAL SERIES FROM FRANCE 

Some two years ago I told you that Robert Merle's 13 books long saga FORTUNES OF FRANCE (Fortune de France) is being turned into a six episode mini series by France2 with our dear Nicolas Duvauchelle starring alongside Gregory Fitoussi and Guillaume Gouix! The historical series, which used more than 750 extras in the production, aired in France last year, but it is now available on Prime Video for streaming.  THE SERIES IS SET IN

Black Périgord, Château de Mespech, 1557. The religious wars are threatening to spread through France.
