After we have seen a movie adaptation a couple of years ago, Peter Hoeg's bestseller SMILLA'S SENSE OF SNOW is getting a TV series version as well. The series will have world premier over in Australia on their streamer SBS from July 30th! In Europe it will air on Viaplay and ARD in Germany later on and probably on ITV in UK. The six parter is a thrilling and genre-bending series set in 2040 where society is monitored through drones and body cams, energy is a privilege, and political tensions run high. 

 

 THIS NEW SF SERIES FOLLOWS

Smilla Jaspersen (Filippa Coster-Waldau), a smart and wealthy woman in her twenties, who lives in a social housing complex in Copenhagen. With filming beginning this month, David Tennant, Jonathan Pryce, Naomi Ackie, Daniel Mays and Henry Lloyd-Hughes have joined Netflix’s movie THE THURSDAY MURDER CLUB joining Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley, and Celia Imrie. Chris Columbus directs the film about a group of friends in a retirement home who gather to solve murders for fun, but find themselves caught in a real case. Mirren is ex-spy Elizabeth, Kingsley is ex-psychiatrist Ibrahim, Brosnan is former union activist Ron and Imrie is ex-nurse Joyce.

After Shogun which arrived in February and scored success for the streamer, Hulu will continue with historical shows in March as well launching WE WERE THE LUCKY ONES, a mini series adaptation of Georgia Hunter's best selling historical novel, from March 28th, which is next Thursday, with three opening episodes and will then stream the rest of the episodes weekly.

After that first teaser that we received a few weeks we now have an exciting longer one filled with royal splendour for new historical series MARIE ANTOINETTE which will air on Canal + and BBC in United Kingdom later this month and Australia basically almost everywhere where Versailles aired as well. The eight part series, starring Emilia Schule in the lead role follows the famed queen Marie Antoinette, who was the last queen of France before the French Revolution. Louis Cunningham stars as King Louis XVI and James Purefoy as his father!  Marthe Keller, Jack Archer, Jasmine Blackborow, Gaia Weiss, Crystal Sheperd, Caroline Piette, Oscar Lesage, Roxane Duran, Liah O’Prey, Jonas Bloquet, Nathan Willcocks, Laura Benson, Nicola Perot, Paul Bandey, Maximilien Seweryn also star in the international cast. have Henry Lloyd-Hughes next to Laura Aikman as Cary’s ex-wife Dyan Cannon, Harriet Walter as Grant’s mother. Dainton Anderson, Calam Lynch and Oaklee Pendergast as young versions of Archie Leach (his real name) and Kara Tointon as young Elsie. Ian Pulston-Davies, Ian McNeice, Jason Watkins, Lisa Faulkner and Niamh Cusack are also in. The series will show his early life and cross to 1961 at the height of his fame. It will start with his birth in Bristol in 1904 and tell the story of a childhood spent in extreme poverty, dealing with his father’s adultery and the loss of older brother John. At 14, he joined music hall act and moved to the U.S. and, soon after, Cary Grant was born.

With Henry Lloyd Hughes as Sherlock Holmes and Witcher's Royce Pierreson as Dr John Watson,it will have  Clarke Peters, Thaddea Graham, Darci Shaw, Jojo Macari, McKell David and Harrison Osterfield also in the cast of the series which started shooting in September and was supposed to work till May but had its production stopped with only two more weeks left to shoot.
