Everybody's favourite Hollywood hunk Ryan Reynolds keeps adding different roles to his CV. The new one is in QUEEN OF THE NIGHT.
To be directed by Atom Egoyan over in Canada and with Scott Speedman also in the cast, the psychological thriller will tell the story of a father who goes in search of his missing daughter. "Deadline" reports that Mireille Enos is due to play the wife of Ryan Reynolds character, who checks in with the police once a year in regards to her missing daughter, on her birthday. She comes to discover that disturbing memorabilia left at her workplace is actually clues leading to her daughter's whereabouts.

HOLLYWOOD SPY HEADLINES
Last week I informed you that there will be a movie adaptation of Stephen King's MERCY and now, according to "Variety", the film has found new cast member:
after AMERICAN HORROR STORY Dylan McDermott will return to the horror genre in this story which revolves around two young brothers (Joel Courtney and THE WALKING DEAD's Chandler Riggs) who discover that their grandmother is actually an evil witch. It's not known whom will Dylan McDermott play but we do know that Frances O'Connor will appear as the boys' mother. Speaking of THE WALKING DEAD, Jon Berhthal has joined GRUDGE MATCH, a comedy about two retired boxers (Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone) who step back into the ring to settle an old score. Jon Bernthal plays the estranged son of Robert De Niro's character, who feels conflicted about training his father.

THE PHYSICIAN TRAILER
And since you know that your trusted HOLLYWOOD SPY is one of web's biggest centrals for all things epic and historical, here's an exciting trailer for 2013 visually deeply exotic and atmospheric historical
movie DER MEDICUS or THE PHYSICIAN. This German epic stars Ben Kingsley, Stellan Skarsgard, Olivier Martinez, Tom Payne. Here's the story:  When nine-year-old Rob Cole felt the life force slipping from his mother's hand he could not foresee that this
terrifying awareness of impending death was a gift that would lead him from the familiar life of 11th-century London to small villages throughout England and finally to the medical school at Ispahan. Though apprenticed to an itinerant barber surgeon, it is the dazzling
surgery of a Jewish physician trained by the legendary Persian physician Avicenna that inspires him to accept his gift and to commit his life to healing by studying at Avicenna's school. Despite the ban on Christian
students, Rob goes there, disguising himself as a Jew to gain admission. The film is based on Noah Gordon's adventurous and inspiring bestselling novel of a quest for medical knowledge pursued in a violent world full of superstition and prejudice.

  3. Queen of the Night sounds interesting but Ryan Reynolds doesn't do much for me. I am very interested in The Physician, esp. knowing Ben Kingsley is in it :)

  5. Short little tease of a clip for The Physician, but I liked! And Stellan Skarsgard has been in a lot of movies lately.

    1. yes, and especially in historical films and shows. I'd be the same in the choice of genre if me was an actor :)

  6. The Physician looks most interesting. A period of history I know little about and Avicenna is a philosopher I know of, but have no real depth of knowledge about. The story of a Jew and a Christian studying under a Muslim is unusual enough given today's political climate-all the more intriguing. Should be both thought provoking and visually interesting.

The Spawn is still at her friends house and The Hubby and I are enjoying alone time :)

    1. I do like the mix, even though epics and films focused on religion usually make me feel like I'm from Mars, since I am utterly not in touch with any kind of religion or faith. I remember watching Rachel Weisz' AGORA and feeling extremely tense and nervous, because I cannot grasp people dying for religion and all the evil which lurks in the religious sects and centres.

Be careful not to break anything on the poor hubs :) You know he has sensitive bones... (that didn't sound quite right, methinks)

    2. There's no ideology worth killing or dying for, religious or otherwise. Today the killing is for the spread of Democracy instead the spread of religion. Same thing, different word.

      I won't hurt the Hubby, I promise :)

    3. 'tis true. And 'tis true too. The day democracy started acting as the disguise for totalitarian colonialism is the saddest in modern history. Did I tell you that horrid Madlen Albright who bombed Serbia and stole Kosovo from us is this month taking over the Kosovo telephone company? It was a very lucrative war for that monster.

  7. The Physician looks absolutely stunning. I am on board for that one for sure.

Not feeling the Ryan Reynolds flick, but I am very happy to see Dylan McDermott back in horror. He was incredible in American Horror Story.

    1. I do like the unusual look of the epic trailer too :) European films tend to be more artsy and more bold, especially epics.

Yes, his naked bum was incredible :)

  8. I know I'd be in big trouble in the time of The Physician. They'd be drilling holes in my skull to find out what in the world is going on with my migraines! It looks quite interesting.

I must say, Ryan Reynolds is looking just fine!!! And, did I read right? McDermott is coming back to American Horror Story? I was telling hubby the other night, I'm all about pushing the envelope, but this season is getting be be to much for even me.

My banner is rockin' my page, Dezzy!!!

    1. LOL holes in your skull :) I'm sure you'd have an airy feel in the head :) I'm sure they'd also use eels since eels are good for pretty much everything according to medieval medicine :)

I didn't mention Dylan returnign to AHS. I don't follow the show since it stands for everything I fight against in showbiz and it is deeply sick and shallow :(

      Banner looks fine there :)

    2. Just what I need, more holes in my head. I have enough piercings in my ears =PPP

Hmmm, eels? Now there is a thought and one I haven't tried for my migraines - yet!

Forgive me for my mistake on Dylan, I'm on day two of a migraine so sometimes it's a bit hard to focus. When I saw him and read AHS and hadn't seen him yet, I missed the word "after", I thought, that, not King.

    3. yes, yes, eels and letting of blood are cures for everything if we are to believe trusted medieval doctors :) They also recommend bathing once a year, if you do it twice or thrice, God forbid, like Elizabeth I had the habit of, you will be considered a posh prude :)
