HOLLYWOOD SPY'S BEST ACTORS WHO'VE NEVER WON AN OSCAR ARE JONATHAN RHYS MEYERS, TONI COLLETTE, GLENN CLOSE AND EWAN MCGREGOR!

We've been choosing the best actors who've never won an Oscar for three months now, and the winners of the last round are here: Jonathan Rhys Meyers (25%), Toni Collette (19%), Glenn Close (16%) and Ewan McGregor (16%).
SENSUAL JONATHAN
Stunningly charismatic Jonathan Rhys Meyers has been around for quite some time, but his breakthrough was the mesmerizing role of king Henry in the worldwide famous series THE TUDORS. I personally adored his breathtaking roles as king Philip of France in THE LION IN WINTER next to Glenn Close and Patrick Stewart, and his haunting role in THE EMPEROR'S WIFE, his naughty role in MATCH POINT, his deeply touching role in Chinese epic THE CHILDREN OF HUANG SHI, his role in TITUS. Come to think of it, these are all some of my favourite movies ever, so I strongly recommend them to you. We've also seen him in ALEXANDER, VANITY FAIR, THE MAGNIFICENT AMBERSONS .... We've seen him next to Glenn Close again in ALBERT NOBBS. The two of them have never won an Oscar! Never!

DIVINE COLLETTE
Toni Collette is larger than life. We knew that from the first time we saw her in the cult Australian film MURIEL'S WEDDING in which she gave the most intelligent portrayal of a girl captured in the world
which constantly puts her down. She was also absolutely flawless playing devoted mothers in unusual situations in LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE and THE SIXTH SENSE, we also loved her in EVENING, THE DEAD GIRL, IN HER SHOES, THE HOURS, but she amazed us mostly with her charismatic portrayal of a mother with multiple personalities in UNITED STATES OF TARA. The role is one of those profound and multi layered ones which can be tackled only by the most talented of actors. Toni Collette did it so flawlessly and with such stunning ease that she basically made television history with it securing herself a spot among the best living actresses. Toni was nominated for an Oscar two times, has six awards from Australian Film Institute, one Emmy and a Golden Globe, and believe it or not, but she had a fling with the above mentioned Jonathan Rhys Meyers before she married her hubs :)

QUEEN GLENN
Glenn Close was nominated six times for Oscars, but has never won a single one. Never. Yes, you heard it right - never! It's true that sometimes she had a misfortune of having strong rivals, like this year, when equally amazing Meryl Streep stole the show, but how on Earth could she go without
getting an Oscar for her legendary roles in HOUSE OF THE SPIRITS (it's my favourite of her work, the role of a quiet sister in the sweeping saga next to Jeremy Irons, Meryl Streep and Antonio Banderas), in DANGEROUS LIAISONS (nobody could've done the role better than her), in the EVENING (in which she played both with Meryl Streep and Toni Collette), in PARADISE ROAD (do you remember her stunning role in the story of a group of women who are imprisoned on the island of Sumatra by the Japanese during World War II?), and in HAMLET (next to Kenneth Branagh and Kate Winslet as the most magnificent queen Gertrude). I myself loved her best as Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine in the best mini series ever LION IN WINTER (in which she played next to Patrick Stewart and the above mentioned Jonathan Rhys Meyers).

PERFECT EWAN
Believe it or not, one of the most talented and the most adorable actors ever Ewan McGregor has also never won an Oscar, but wait, listen to this, he was never even nominated! I kid you not! Never! Not for his
legendary, ground breaking, soul shaking, heart warming, mind blowing performance in utterly divine MOULIN ROUGE (in which he also sang with his mesmerizing, heartfelt voice), not for his recent, brilliant work in BEGGINERS and PERFECT SENSE, not for YOUNG ADAM, BIG FISH and NORA in which he played James Joyce, not for EYE OF THE BEHOLDER nor VELVET GOLDMINE, nor STAY. And to make things even worse, his best friend, Jude Law, the two of them being two of the most talented actors under 50 in the world, has not received an Oscar either. Am I crazy, do I have a bad taste or lack of judgement, or is the Academy just a rotten nest which gives out awards mostly to their undeserving pets?

BEST TV HUNKS
Leaving serious topics aside, next month we shall go for something more eye pleasing and much more teasing :) We will be choosing BEST TV HUNK among the shows which have been shining in season 2011/2012. So, here are the candidates and vote on as much as you like: John Hamm (MAD MEN), Jason O'Mara (TERRA NOVA), Dylan McDermott (AMERICAN HORROR STORY), Bradley James (MERLIN), Josh Dallas (ONCE UPON A TIME), Liam McIntyre (SPARTACUS VENGEANCE), Jim Caviezel (PERSON OF INTEREST), Damian Lewis (HOMELAND), Andrew Lincoln (THE WALKING DEAD), Kit Harington (GAME OF THRONES), David Oakes (THE BORGIAS).

I'm going to show my solidarity for THE WALKING DEAD and go with Andrew Lincoln, even though I know he won't win.

I adore Ewan McGregor. He really is the most amazingly talented actor.

all HUNKS men, 50% are gay :)

don't complain, Cat, you know hunks bring me loads of visits ;)

DEZMOND said...

who knows, maybe he will :) We need to support our Rick, he lives surrounded by fools who don't appreciate him. And the actor was positively adorable in LOVE ACTUALLY.

DEZMOND said...

agreed on both things, Debs

DEZMOND said...

you've tried them yourself and established the truth?

He was one of the best parts of that film.

DEZMOND said...

too bad he had a horrid partner in it :((( But what his character did in it was legendary and eternally heartwarming.

I personally havent seen the best of JRM, well the truth is I have only seen him in August Rush...so I wont say much about him.

Ewan mcgregor, however, he truly deserve Oscar...one day, maybe?

I am going to pass the next vote....if you include Dean from supernatural, then I can vote, although I dont watch it anymore :)

You know I love Ewan, but Jonathan grew up in County Cork, so I'm having to favor him above all the rest. And him oozing sexuality from his pores helps him out even more.

Glenn Close should have a couple by now, strange decisions form the Oscar lot...

Can't quite believe Glenn Close has never won an Oscar...she's a top actress!

Glenn Close has never won an Oscar! Can't quite believe it. She's a great actress...she should have got one for Fatal Attraction.

The Cat took off his collar Dez. We can't yank his tie anymore, so we'll have to yank his tail instead!

Ewan McGregor was probably the only one in the 3 prequel films that didn't sound fake and wooden the whole time. Great actor

Adam said...

in the star wars prequel films, forgot to add that

I completely forgot JRM was in Titus. I LOVED Titus.

Gimmie a side of Ewan McGregor any day of the week. I'd like to play with his lightsaber.

Can you believe I haven't watched ANY of these new TV shows from your TV Hunk list. I WILL watch American Horror Story and Once Upon a Time one day...
My favorite new show (it's in it's fourth season but just started watching) is SouthLAnd. And my fave new tv hunk is C. Thomas Howell in it. Because he's hilarious and I still adore him since he was Ponyboy!

I agree that Ewan needs an Oscar. Shame on the Academy for not considering him.

Howdy Dezz!Glenn Close is great and deserves something better than a boring oscar. She deserves a Dezzy ;) Strangely enough, when I think of her (doesn't happen a lot), I think of my stalkers.

Luanne G. Smith said...

Glenn Close really was amazing in The Lion In Winter, though that wouldn't have gotten her an Oscar anyway. I kind of thought she deserved it for Albert Nobbs though. And JRM and Ewan McGregor are two other fine picks.

I'm going with the handsome Mr. Harrington in your new poll. I'm quite smitten with him after seeing GOT. :))

DEZMOND said...

and when we finish with his tail, we shall hop onto his whiskers :)

DEZMOND said...

I actually think you would like lots of Jonathan's films since he is quite similar to Cillian.

DEZMOND said...

yep, Meyers is Irish pride and joy :) He's oozing bisexuality :)

DEZMOND said...

agreed, Lurk

DEZMOND said...

top of the tops

DEZMOND said...

she should've gotten one for most of her roles :)

DEZMOND said...

it's true, Adam, he was the only talent in that crapfest.

DEZMOND said...

he was in so many films, and people seem to forget it ;(

DEZMOND said...

@Michael
I hear you brother, I hear you and support your idea :)

DEZMOND said...

@Kelly
ah, Howell's been your guilty pleasure for decades now :PP

DEZMOND said...

shame on them, shame!

DEZMOND said...

I actually did have golden Dezzies given out each January :) You have it in my awards section above :)

DEZMOND said...

she did won a Globe for that role and was nominated for Emmy too :) It's a comfort for me :)

DEZMOND said...

PS sorry for not visiting your place, Libster, but my eyes just can't take white letters on black background :(

Unknown said...

I agree a thousand percent. He was the only saving grace of that hideous mess.

DEZMOND said...

I still cringe when I recall Hayden's and Portman's acting.... what a horror.

I love Ewan and had a hard time voting on this poll. :)

Love every one in your new poll but Hamm. I hate Mad Men and therefore can't consider him a hunk. His character treats women like sex toys and furniture.

Bradley James, though. Mmm, mmn good. He's way hot as Arthur.

DEZMOND said...

he he I know you hate MAD MEN :) His character is quite a pompous prick in it. He thinks his wife need to be sent to some psychiatric facility when she displays dissatisfaction with their marriage :) He says she has female problems :)) You would so kill that prick, Melsy, you sure would.
But I do love the psychological aspect of that show and it is a great satyre on the foundations of American society in which everything has a price tag and everything is seen through money and marketing.

Novroz said...

I like him in August Rush, really dont mind to watch another of his movies.

out of all you have mentioned above, which one should I search first?

vic caswell said...

it is astounding how such talent can go unacknowledged. yikes. :(

DEZMOND said...

it's a shock, sister, shock I say!

DEZMOND said...

You might like CHILDREN OF HUANG SHI, it's a sweeping drama set in China. Very touching and a heartwrecking role from Meyers.

RCB said...

There's no such thing as Star Wars I-III. Anyone in favor of a couple of remakes?

RCB said...

Why do you think I mentioned it.... Hello, Doctor Dezz!

DEZMOND said...

those awards were such a blast, such a huge event in the Blogland :) Too bad Kodak theatre wasn't free for the ceremony this year as well...

DEZMOND said...

yep, ignoring their existence is the best solution here :)

Novroz said...

thnk you Dezz :)

Unknown said...

He would be ashes in a box on on my dresser. ;))

DEZMOND said...

ha ha ha ha :)))
But you would let us play with him a bit before you turn him into ashes, yes? :)
