which Shawn Levy (REAL STEEL) will direct for 20th Century Fox and which will bring a sci-fi spin on the traditional Mary Shelley story, focusing on themes of friendship and redemption. There is also Guillermo del Toro's THE CASEBOOK OF VICTOR FRANKEN STEIN, and over at Summit they are preparing adventurous adaptation of THIS DARK ENDEAVOR book, which I mentioned back in May. Last year I also mentioned I, FRANKEN STEIN, highly visual fantasy thriller in which the original monster of Victor Frankenstein stands between the human race and an uprising of supernatural creatures determined to overthrow the world.
SHORT HOLLYWOOD HEADLINES
According to "Deadline" charismatic Harry Lloyd, who played the naughty dragon prince Viserys Targaryen in GAME OF THRONES has joined Vera Farmiga and Mark Strong in
CLOSER TO THE MOON, a film set in 1959 Bucharest, where a group of former anti-Nazi revolutionaries refocus their skills against the communists and are arrested for robbing a bank under the guise of staging a film shoot. A year later, the culprits are sentenced to death but are first forced to reenact the caper in a propaganda film. I wasn't a fan of THE SOPRANOS, but those of you who were, might enjoy the fact that James Gandolfini and HBO are preparing a new show - BIG DEAD PLACE, about a man who went to work for the U.S. Antarctic Program thinking he'd find adventure, beauty, penguins and lofty-minded scientists. Instead, he found boredom, alcohol and bureaucracy.

I haven't mention this upcoming show before, but now I feel I have to since it's getting itself quite an interesting cast: according to "Deadline" our favourite Zachary Quinto has just joined Dylan McDermott and Jessica Lange in FX's new show AMERICAN HORROR STORY. Premiering this October, this strange show, from the creators of NIP/TUCK and GLEE, centers on therapist
Ben Harmon (McDermott) and his wife Vivien who, dealing with the aftermath of Ben’s adultery, move along with their kids into a new house that seems to know all about their fears and plays on them. Quinto, who will appear in at least four episodes, will play Chad, the gay former owner of the house who becomes friends with Vivien.
Big Dead Place sounds awesome....
ReplyDeleteI've always found Antarctica to be fascinating.
And I LOVE that last screenshot.
Hey Dezzy - Love the Frankenstein novel... in the movies... not so much. American Horror Story looks like it might be good. =D Hope you had a fab friday!! =D
ReplyDeleteI really like Harry Lloyd, what I've seen him in so far has been very good. I think that Frankenstein is the natural progression from vampires - werewolves - zombies. I just hope it goes to the stage where they'll do a big budget remake of Creature from the Black Lagoon.
ReplyDelete@Drew
ReplyDeleteI also cold places and polar settings!
@Shells
glad you like some of the news, today, Shells! Wishing you a nice weekend, and I reckon it will be memorable having in mind the news on the publication of your book :)
@JAmie

Spooky post today, Dezzy. What the hell is American Horror Story? That clip was...weird, yet oddly intriguing. :)
ReplyDelete@Vics
ReplyDeletehope it won't be overly morbid, although the trailers say it will be :) Probably not my kind of thing, but I know lots of you love extreme horrors :)
Will Scarlett was a true darling in the show!
@Luanne
yep, I've noticed the spookiness too :) No other news on Saturday, sorry :)
You can find many other AMERICAN HORROR STORY weird clips over at YouTube.
Two comments today: (1) Frankenstein looks pretty fey in that picture, doesn't he? and (2) YOU DIDN'T LIKE THE SOPRANOS? How could you not, Dez? That series was fuckin' brilliant, bada boom, bada bing.
ReplyDeleteFrankie IS charming in that pic, isn't he? :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a type of person who avoids everything connected with mobsters, gangsters, criminals ... I'm not attracted by the powers of evil and darkness and those things have never been cool to me not even on film or on TV :)
Seriously Dez, how do you get the most beautiful photos? Such great stuff.
ReplyDeleteFX is awesome. I've been watching Wilfred ;D
ReplyDeleteThat Harry Lloyd looks different with his own hair!! Blimey!!

@Reilly
WILFRED is that weird show with a man who thinks he is a dog? :)
@Scott
ReplyDeletehe does look great without the blond hair too, doesn't he? He is a very nice actor, and I expect more from him in the future.
HAve a nice weekend too.
@Inverse
I'd like it to be fairies and angels, but I reckon we shall have mutants and witches and similar
it's not related to this post, but i finally started watching "rome" the other day. really great.
ReplyDeletethat's great news, Edmund! Amazing show with amazing actors, especially Polly Walker, Kevin MCKidd, James Purefoy, Simon Woods. Don't forget to watch the second season too, it's even better than the first one.
ReplyDeleteHi Dezz,
ReplyDeleteFirst - the green on this site is my all time fav colour - had a dress in this green when I was a wee tyke - loved it, loved it, loved it...so coming here brings it all back.
Okay, while I haven’t commented lately...you know rabbit hole follies and all, I have done my share of reading.
As always...I’m amazed at all that goes on in the “big screen” world that I haven’t a clue about - thank god for you! - otherwise I really would be stuck in my rabbit hole for ever.
I hope all is flowing along smoothly in your part of the world and that life is good!
Cheers, Jenny
I just bought Frankenstein yesterday. :D (the novel)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dezzy! Hope your weekend is fab, too. Are you making something delicious?

@Shells
ReplyDeleteno, I make something only when someone is visiting, since nobody in my house eats cakes for different reasons :( I'm just making lunch for tomorrow and that's it from me this weekend when it comes to cooking.
@DWei

Frankenstein is in? Time to shelve that work in progress for a few years.
ReplyDeleteAMERICAN HORROR STORY - Can't wait.
