After a decade of playing Superman in SMALLVILLE which is closing to its end, what is popular Tom Welling going to do next?
According to "MovieWeb" it seems he might stay in the world of super heroes since Marvel wants him in one of their future projects which will follow adventures of one of their comic book heroes. It could be DOCTOR STRANGE or RUNAWAYS. And since the producers of SMALLVILLE are producing the futuristic film adaptation of famous QUATERMAIN saga, he might end up in that film too instead of the announced Sam Worthington. Set in a time in which humans have left Earth it will see Quatermain return to the planet from a sojourn in space, embarking on another King Solomon's Mines-style adventure but on a planet wide scale.
SHORT HEADLINES *Maggie Gyllenhaal and Viola Davis will play two young mothers who bring revolution to the old and oppressive local school system in STILL I RISE. *This is
quite an interesting cast: Kiefer Sutherland, Thomas Jane, Til Schweiger and Gerard Depardieu will star in SLEIGHT OF HAND, an action comedy set in Paris about a crew of small time crooks, who inadvertently end up possessing a rare gold coin belonging to a notorious French gangster. The series of mix-ups and double crosses culminate as the gangs are pit face to face, chasing through Paris. *What an awkward casting: Katie Holmes and Chase Crawford will star in RESPONSIBLE ADULTS, a film about a woman who starts dating a man and then she realizes she babysat him fifteen years before.
Now, this is quite a masculine cast: Jason Statham, Clive Owen and Robert De Niro will star in THE KILLER ELITE. This spy
action will follow Danny (Statham), one of the world's most skilled special-ops agents. Lured out of self-imposed exile to execute a near-impossible feat of retribution and personal salvation, Danny reassembles his old team of operatives to help rescue his former mentor (De Niro), and to penetrate the highly feared and respected military unit, the British Special Air Service (SAS). Facing off against a covert group of ex-SAS soldiers lead by Spike (Owen) Danny and his team must take down a rogue cell of solider assassins before their actions result in a global political meltdown.
I like the description for Sleight of Hand. It sounds like something Guy Ritchie would direct. And, yes, I like most of his movies, except that one. :(
ReplyDeleteI am still sad SMALLVILLE is ending. :(
ReplyDelete@Luanne
ReplyDeleteit will be a film with a crazy European plot :)
You don't like which one?
@Emily
I haven't watched it, but I know many people loved it. I tried and lost interest after they kicked Michael Rosenbaum out :(
I think it was called Swept Away, which I hope it was. :P
ReplyDeleteActually, I didn't even watch the whole thing. Just parts, but it was enough.
ah, the one made an atrocity by Madonna :)
ReplyDeleteTom Welling as 'Quatermain'? Interesting... seems like he's definitely typecast in 'heroic' type of roles, no surprise there. He seems too pretty for the role though, but who knows maybe he can look a bit rugged now that he can actually act his age, ahah. I still remember Richard Chamberlain in King Solomon's Mines, he's pretty good in that.
ReplyDeletethe role was announced last year for Sam Worthington, but there are rumors that the producers want to work with Welling again. And he hasn't had a film career so far, just the TV one.
ReplyDeleteI love the black and white pics. Stylish.
ReplyDeleteI reckon THE KILLER ELITE should be renamed to TESTOSTERONE ;)
yep, nakedness sometimes demands a bit of black and white :)
ReplyDeleteAnd indeed it should be called that :)
The Killer Elite sounds awesome. A terrific premise and a superb cast. Hopefully, De Niro can get back to giving tremendous performances.
ReplyDeleteWow - lots of interesting tidbits today!
ReplyDeletei have never heard of Quartermain, but it'll be fun watching him in a different film other than superman. :)
ReplyDeleteTom Welling will be good! I am interested in Sleight of Hand and Killer Elite, sounds great, too.
ReplyDeleteThey should have considered Welling as Bruce Banner for "The Avenger" instead of Mark Ruffalo.
ReplyDeletehehe Statham news always brings a smile to my face, Happy days!!
ReplyDeleteIs that really a picture of Katie Holmes? She looks very odd in it!
Katie Holmes looks so weird.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I can't wait to see the last movie. Those guys are so hot and make awesome killers! Hm, that sounded odd.
still i rise sounds like it could be really good. maggie gyllenhaal is an exceptional talent- although some of the movies she picks are superstrange.
ReplyDelete@Matty
ReplyDeleteyep, it's quite a strong cast for an action film. I'm personally not into De Niro/PAcino/Sean Penn way of acting but I do love me some Statham any time and I can live with Owen in the cast too :))
@Jemi
glad you like it, Jemi :)
@Levian
it is actually a very famous classic book which was made into a series of adventure films in the 80's with Richard Chamberlaine and Sharon Stone. I think the book was also made into a comic book later on.
@Ella
ReplyDeleteglad you thinks so, Ella :) Tom Welling needs a movie role desperately if he doesn't want to disappear.
@Jaccsy
yep, it's true, Welling could've been great in THE AVENGERS, maybe as Hawkeye instead of the horrid Jeremy Renner, but hopefully he will get some other role soon.
@Custie
ReplyDeleteyep, it's Katie Cruise, but I believe every person married to Tom Cruise and being a member of Scientology looks weird and crazy on a daily basis :P
@Clarissa
yep, if looks could kill they would be mass murderers :)
@Vics
yes, Maggie often picks strange roles. I think that portraying all her roles in a comedic way is also one of her huge problems, because no one gets her seriously. She is kinda like Riccie - queen of strangeness and weirdness :)
It is always strange when a person that has played one superhero, plays a second. I say always but I can only think of it ever happening with two actors and one actress.
ReplyDeleteWhoa! Smallville has been on for ten years?! Wow!
ReplyDeleteWhy are Katie and Thomas Jane in a photo together like that??? Or is it spliced?
Never watched...Smallville-- but he's hot. Actually he qualifies as HAWT.
ReplyDelete@Budd
ReplyDeleteit certainly is, and I'm not even sure I support it :) It seem kinda weird. But we've seen Ryan Reynolds playing two super heroes and Chris Evans too :)
@Kelly
I put them together :) they are both mentioned in the post, and I needed to satisfy both my girls and my boys :)
@Jo
he he ... he certainly isn't bad to look at ;)
Liking the sound of Sleight of Hand. Depardieu is the man.
ReplyDeleteI hope Blogger will return all other comments that were left under this post yesterday :( There were more than 25 of them.
ReplyDelete@Michael
glad you like it, buddy :)
Dang, they lost my comment, too! Well I just want to say that I picture Quatermain to be much more rugged than Welling, but hopefully he can pull it off if he just keep his five o'clock shadow and look disheveled a bit, at least this time he doesn't have to look like he's still in college, ahah.
ReplyDeletethey say they will return the comments, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. They did bring back the posts, but no comments :(
ReplyDeleteYou must have in mind that this Quatermain will be set in future, so maybe he can look dashing and clean in such a setting? :)
Tom's new gig sounds quite interesting. And I love the cast for Killer Elite. I never got the chance to post a comment or anything else. :( Hope I'm not too late.
ReplyDeleteoff course it's not too late, Melsy. I see that Blogger hasn't returned anyone's comments from yesterday and that most people have taken a hiatus this weekend because of that. The traffic and comments will be at their lowest this weekend :( I feel violated :)
ReplyDeleteDoc Strange is another one I hope they do right. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
ReplyDeleteThe Killer Elite sound really promising. I like Statham a lot and who doesn't want to watch De Niro?
I don't like De Niro for example :))) but I do love Statham :)
ReplyDeleteWHAT? Aww Dez, you don't like De Niro? Oh well, we all have our own opinions :) Good that we both agree on Statham though.
