(THE KILLING) will play a Detroit cop who is shot and left for dead on the street. After being turned into a half-man half-robot crime-fighting machine known as RoboCop, he goes on a mission to clean up the Motor City's mean streets. Gary Oldman will play Norton, the scientist who created the title character, who is torn between the morality of this machine trying to reclaim its humanity, and the needs of the corporation he works for. The film is supposed to be shot in Canada.
HOLLYWOOD SPY HEADLINES
Speaking of sf movie adaptations, Josh Trank, who had quite a success recently with his sf hit CHRONICLE,
will, according to "Deadline", helm the movie adaptation of SHADOW OF THE
COLOSSUS video game. The story centers on Wander, a desperate man who enters a forbidden land, with the hope that a mystical demon can bring his lover back from the dead. The demon charges Wander with defeating 16 stone giants dubbed "colossi", before he can be reunited with his true love. It is interesting that Trank is also one of the possible candidates to direct the reboot of FANTASTIC FOUR. It has also been revealed today that Mads Mikkelsen (THE THREE MUSKETEERS) has joined THOR 2 in which he will play an unspecified villain next to Chris Hemsworth as the Blond god himself. Scheduled for November 2013 the film will be helmed by Alan Taylor (GAME OF THRONES).

And to finish the day in a sf tone, Guillermo del Toro's plot for his new sf action PACIFIC RIM has been revealed: When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity's resources for years on
end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenceless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi), who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind's last hope against the mounting apocalypse. Idris Elba and Ron Perlman are also in the cast of the July 2013 film.
VOTE 4 SERBIA EUROSONG2012
And if you're living in Europe, my little freaks, don't forget to vote for Serbia this Saturday evening at the Eurosong 2012 finals in Azerbaian! More than 40 countries will compete with their musical representatives, and Serbia is there with Zeljko Joksimovic and his powerful ballad LOVE IS NOT A THING TO BE GIVEN BACK.
Zeljko has already won a second place once with LANE MOJE, a song that has become the most beloved Eurovision song of all times, he also wrote another otherwordly ballad ORO which represented Serbia in 2008, and he wrote one of the most enchanting lyrical ballads ever LEYLA which represented Bosnia at Eurosong. This year, Serbia again has a deeply emotional, breathtaking elven ballad competing against dance songs and instant pop hits. Vote for us if you can and let the quality win again! Serbia is still holding a record for being the only country ever to win Eurosong the very first year we appeared there: symphonic ballad MOLITVA brought us victory in 2007!

I just hope they don't frak up the visuals for SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS. Should be great.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen the game, hope the visuals are nice in it
DeleteGood luck to Serbia! The only Canadian singer to ever win the Eurovision Song Contest was Celine Dion, but she was singing for Switzerland.
ReplyDeletethanks, Debs! We still remember Celine at Eurosong, I believe she started her international career there.
DeleteI'm excited for Pacific Rim and Shadow of the Colossus. I think both of those movies, if done well, should be crowd pleasers.
ReplyDeletewe do love sf epics
DeleteI have never heard of Eurosong. I like the music though.
ReplyDeleteit's the biggest music competition in the world, held for more than 50 years annually. Countries of Europe send their songs to compete and the winner gets to host the competition next year. Viewers vote for the winner, for the best song. Usually pop hits, but Serbia is the most renowned as the country which always sends deep quality music with deep emotions.
DeleteIt's a competition alright, but in many cases they're stretching the meaning of the beautiful word music a bit... Make that a lot. It's a tavesty of what it used to be. Oooo Dezz, I sound like an old man again. The horror!
DeleteIn many cases yes, but there are always musical gems among them as you can hear from the links I've put in the post above. But the music is still better than most of US trash coming from Katy Perry, Rihanna, Keisha, Avril Lavigne, Britney etc.
DeleteAlthough I can't vote, I listened to the song and it was absolutely beautiful. I've never heard of Eurosong before, thank you for sharing it with us, Dezz.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget to check out all other of our songs under the red letter links :) You will love them all!
DeleteI confess, I didn't even check them out until just now! The last one, Marija - she doesn't even need those backup singers. Wow! What a powerful voice coming out of that lady!!
Delete"lady" LOL, she's more of a lesbian hobbit :) She does have a mighty voice, but it is interesting that the audience doesn't like her much, she is a bit arrogant and she never had a hit outside this song called PRAYER. It brought Eurosong to Serbia in 2008 and we are still considered the best hosts in the history of the competition :) We had the best stage, the best hosts, the best graphics....
DeleteLOL, I was trying to be polite. =) lesbian hobbit lol
DeleteWith a voice like that, I'm not surprised she's become arrogant, but yeah, an audience will turn quick on someone like that. It's a shame for her.
Will you host again?
Sadly no! We ended up third last night out of 42 countries :( Sweden won thanks to aggressive marketing campaign. It's a nice song, but has no depth of the Serbian elven entry :( But a lot of countries gave us the highest 12 points :) and we are the moral winners.
DeleteSo, it's over? The finals are done?
Deleteyep! It lasts just for three days, two semifinals from which only the best 25 countries go to the finals, held on Saturday. They all perform their songs, and then the viewers in all countries do the televoting. And the Eurosong then moves to the country of the winner next year :)
DeleteSo, next year it is then!!
Deleteyep, but Zeljko said he will no longer compete as the performer, since he was twice himself at the Eurosong, once second, once third, so I don't know whom else we are going to send, he is the most trustworthy to me..
DeleteThat's to bad. Perhaps there is a hidden gem out there somewhere?
Deleteme possibly LOL :))
DeleteWe have a lot of great singers actually, but it's not easy for most of them to get into national TV and get sent to Eurosong, since now the National TV editors are choosing who will go, not us, the viewers :(
First things first. Another Robocop? Please God no. The only good thing about it is that Canada will benefit from money spent while filming it there.
ReplyDeleteMads makes me want to go for a Danish and I'm not talking about the pastry! Beautiful eyes on this one.
I'm gobsmacked that there are people who haven't heard of Eurosong. How can Europe be forgotten by Americans when that is where all the history of their country originated? And the combined size of Europe is so march larger than the States and so rich in culture. I feel a rant coming on!!
Jedward is representing Ireland and I have to say the song is an embarrassment. It's a silly pop tune and has no substance and is musically devoid of talent. The young generation are forgetting their culture by submitting songs like this and I'd like to slap them for it. If I were home I'd vote for Serbia. The music is rich, the vocals are beautiful and this song makes your country shine.
And the second good thing about ROBOCOP is Kinnaman :) We do love us Scandinavian hunks.
DeleteI'm also shocked, Annzie, especially since I know for sure that Eurosong is aired in US too! And it lasts for more than 50 years and is the biggest music competition in the world.
Ah, don't mention those two little freaks, I feel the need to beat them up every time I see them :) I hope you like all other Serbian songs under the links.
PS I hope you will be able to visit tomorrow, since I will have a spotlight that you will personally like a lot, dahling, I did it pretty much for you.
*sigh* This is why I missed Annzie so very much - you two and your back and forth here, on Anne's blog and Pat's blog =)
Delete-signed silly naive American who never heard of Eurosong lololol =PPPP
I'll check in for sure dear. I'm expecting to see half naked Irishman!! God I miss home.
Delete@Elsie you're part of the Alliance now and we're global. I challenge you to learn as much about my country as I know about yours. (I have a slight advantage by being married to an American, but we won't mention that).
@Elsie
DeleteLOL well somebody has to teach you Americans a thing or two, who better than a Serb, an Irish lady and a Canadian cat :PPPP
@Annzie
Deletethere will be no nakedness (except some Irish boys showing their weapons under kilts :), but you will still like it, it will be an Irish spotlight :) To cheer you up a bit.
Men never sheath their swords when wearing a kilt. But that's not what makes a man in a kilt sexy. It's how well their calves are turned out and that is really what I look for in a man wearing a kilt. I do imagine the rest though.
DeleteThank you darling, I'm off to work in the yard for a bit and then play my drums, but I'll check back in between the two.
have nice time outside, and try to turn your mind off a bit, just surrender yourself to your flowers and fresh air.
Deletegreat, now I have homework! lol - worth it to be a part of the Alliance and even friends with the evil cat
Deletefriends with the ebil cat? We're no friends, we're arch-enemies, he's our nemesis!
DeleteThe 2004 set is probably my favorite, mostly for the flutist. Wish I understood the words too, sounds heartbreaking. And Leyla, that one is simply sweet.
ReplyDelete......dhole
the 2004 song is called MY FAWN, he calls his dear love a fawn. They' re separated and he is asking himself where is she now, is she happy without him...and does she have someone worthy of the memory of the love they once had.
DeleteIn Leyla, the singer asks Leyla is it really possible that she could love another man, since she betrayed him.
Robocop, hate that they are remaking that, one was enough. Pacific Rim sounds like it will be a good one and no idea what he is singing but it is very good, would vote if I could.
ReplyDeleteExactly. All I've got to say is AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! Or AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! Whichever you prefer, Pat. You know I'm quoting the Penguin in Batman 2. No pun intended, Dezzy.
DeleteI don't think I've seen the original movie, so I'm pretty much impartial to the remake. I do love me Kinnaman a lot, so I'm looking forward to seeing him in a film role.
DeleteAaaah works for me, as all these remakes can bite me. The first was okay, but the second and third should be flushed away.
DeleteI wouldn't mind a FLASH GORDON remake, you know, it's always been my fave film from my childhood, and DUNE too, but not done in a horrid way like those TV mini series few years ago...
DeleteSomeone does need to DUNE right. Those were great books and they deserve a good treatment. I didn't like the first Robocop. I watched a few minutes of it on video and turned it off. Not my kind of thing.
DeleteI loved DUNE as a kid. That was my fave sf saga, since I didn't know about LORD OF THE RINGS in those days.
DeleteOh wow, a Robocop remake should be marvelous with all the film technological advances we have made since the first one came out. I loved SotC video game, the movie should be fun too. Mads Mikkelsen makes for an excellent villain, should be fun watching him in Thor 2. The plot for Pacific Rim sounds really strange...I think it will be a hit or miss for me. I'm so tired of those sing/dance/talent shows though, its so overdone now, although to be fair I was never a big fan of them to begin with.
ReplyDeleteit should, they can do better effects now. Mads should be great next to Hemsworth and Hiddleston.
DeleteEurosong is not a reality show, but a competitive festival which lasts only for three days, it's not a talent show, but a music event with a 50 year tradition. It's actually older than television, since it was organized even in the times when there were only radios.
Oh, well as long as it didn't have any influence or help creating those shows we have today then it's ok in my book.
Deleteit didn't :)
DeleteI’m a huge Robocop fan...I think I still have the originals on VHS. Yikes!
ReplyDeleteNot sure about Pacific Rim...will have to see a trailer on this one.
I’ll give my Euro friends heads up about tomorrow’s voting (already 2:30 am in Hamburg) and see if we can rustle up some votes.
The music was breathtaking to listen to, thank you for sharing this part of Serbia with us, Dezz. :)
With smiles, Jenny
thanks for organizing the voting machine in Germany :) We usually get some points from them, since we have a lot of our emigrants in Deutchland :)
DeleteSerbians look hot. That song was pretty awesome, romantic melody.
ReplyDeleteMad Mikkelsen gives me creeps.
Serbians may be hot, but once you go blue, you know it's for you!
Delete@Meandmy
Deletewe really are a hot nation. Ladies usually love Serbian men and boys like Serbian beauties :)
Mad is a bit creepy especially with years.. he doesn't look now like he looked at that pic above.
@Blue
pppfttt...
Well, Dezz, I've heard of Eurosong and a bit too much in case you're wondering. It used to be a classy event but now there are freaks aplenty. Has very little to do with the quality of songs and it's become more about trying to get attention by looking ridiculous. Don't know why. I haven't heard the Serbian song yet. If you say it's good, I'll take your word for it.
ReplyDeleteNow as for Robocop the Unnecessary Remake Part 1, all I can say is.... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! You can quote me on that one.
Have a nice day now, Dezzzzz! :)
that is why Serbia is here to make a difference among all those freaks :) I don't know why, but I have a strange feeling you would like this years representative from the hosting country Azerbaian, she is stunningly gorgeous and has a killer voice.
DeleteHow is it possible you haven't heard the Serbian song yet, when it's up there in the video?
Our submission is horrible and has two freaks in it instead of just one. England has Englebert Humperdinck and the song is simple and sweetly done. People are coming out in favor of it, even people in Ireland are saying they are going to vote for it. The vocals and orchestration aren't nearly as good as Serbia's though. I always hope politics don't win out over quality and I hope that's the case this time. Either way, Ireland is going to lose.
DeleteJedward freaks will not win, but I reckon they will do good since shallow teen girls will vote for them in tones :(
DeleteHumperdinck has a nice song, but he himself just isn't a face for such a festival. Just like Serbia he will probably get a lot of votes from the jury, since the winner is decided 50% by jury vote (they usually vote more seriously) and other half by the audience votes. We are performing 24th out of 25 countries, which might be a good thing :) since people will still have us in their minds when the televoting starts :)
Thanks for the update Dez ~ I recall the original Robocop and enjoyed it. I will have to see what how they will remake it but Gary Oldman is a very good actor ~
ReplyDeletehe will go nicely with Kinnaman who is extremely charismatic and magnetic.
DeleteI'm late, don't send the penguins after me, pretty please. :(
ReplyDeleteI hope Serbia rocked the Eurosong, that was an amazing song. I'll have to look for it on iTunes.
I cannot wait for this Pacific Rim story. It sounds so epic in scale and I love me the Charlie Hunnam. ;) Gary Oldman's role in Robocop sounds pretty intriguing and Mads in Thor 2 is going to be great.
It's hard to stop them after they've been unleashed you know :PPP You might get yourself a lot of sardines to keep them at bay :)
DeleteWe ended up third, behind two semi\comical songs :( People rarely get quality :(
It's so interesting that Euro and Aussie actors keep getting cast as American-based superheroes :D I have no problem w/ that at all. That Joel Kinnaman looks pretty cute. Oh and I love Mads as a Thor villain, I'm sure he'd be great!
ReplyDeletewe do prefer Euro and Oz actors!
DeleteKinnaman is cute as candy, he is Danish after all, how could he not be cute? :)
