HATFIELDS & MCCOYS in which the story will centre on the infamous 19th-century American family feud. The airing of the series should coincide with the 150th anniversary of the feud with Kevin
Costner in the lead role. I'm guessing the series will also remind the world of how deep the American society is based on guns, violence and slaughter.
H&M STORY
The miniseries will chronicle the bloody hostilities between two clans that escalated to the point of near war between two states. Although this is a classic tale of American history and these names are widely recognized, few people know the real story that made them famous. This fascinating and timeless saga of courage, sacrifice and family love amid
insidious plots and endless intrigue, begins with Devil Anse Hatfield (Kevin Costner) and Randall McCoy (Bill Paxton). Close friends and comrades during the Civil War, they returned to their neighbouring homes — Hatfield in West Virginia, McCoy just across the Tug River border in Kentucky — to increasing tensions, misunderstandings and resentments that soon exploded into all-out warfare between the two
families. As hostilities grew, friends, neighbours and outside forces joined the fight, bringing the two states to the brink of another Civil War. Their story also includes: a tempestuous love affair between Hatfield’s son and McCoy’s daughter, which had disastrous consequences; the execution of McCoy’s three young sons in retaliation for the Rasputin
like murder of Hatfield’s beloved brother; a New Year’s Massacre of the McCoy clan and burning of their home, which also sparked international headlines; a public clash between state governors; and ultimately the involvement of the United States Supreme Court.
H&M TIDBITS
Beside Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton, the rather complex and big cast also includes Tom Berenger, Powers Boothe, amazing Andrew Howard (Prince Richard the Lionheart from LION IN WINTER), Mare Winningham, Sam Reid (ANONYMOUS),
Sarah Parish (THE PILLARS OF THE EARTH), and there's a bunch of gorgeous young actors: Lindsay Pulsipher, Matt Barr, Jena Malone, Boyd Holbrook, Tom McKay, Jonathan Fredrick. The series was mostly shot in Romania, Europe and a lot of Romanian actors will appear in smaller roles.
Wow, I've heard the term before but never knew the story behind it. What a violent past and probably because of a misunderstanding.
ReplyDeleteit sounds like a hellish clan war to me
DeleteI'm always watching the history channel I'll be looking forward to that episode
ReplyDeleteglad to hear that, Baur!
DeleteGood to see Costner back to form, liked Wyatt Earp and The Postman and such of his. Tons of well known actors as well, many are surely going to tv now a days.
ReplyDeleteDez isn't here! The cat rules the alliance drools. Did you just post this to show our fued will get bloody? The cat better stock up on pringle cans.
Put the pringle cans down!!!! hahahaha I won't to be named General!!! :)
DeleteThe Alliance is not down and out. We've been on a recon mission to see what is really up your bum and we found Pluto. And several gas giants in there.
DeleteLOL the pringle cans are stocked and ready. You won't make general and remain my minion.
DeleteWow you got up there, did you get lost?
The Alliance isn't taken down as easily as the cat would like to think is it, Anne? Dez has called upon the Borg for extra protection, he's getting upgraded spying equipment and your ranks grow because the cat has threatened me and my dogs with his poo filled pringle cans! All hail the Alliance!
DeleteThat feline offender is disgusting isn't he Elsie. The borg have stated that he's so disgusting that they won't assimilate him.
DeleteCat, you won't get far by insulting Blabber. You're horrible by even calling her your minion. Bad, bad, bad cat.
@Cat
Deleteyep, that's an interesting trend of film stars going to TV.
As you can see, my ladies defended the empire while I was with the Borg surgeons!
@Annzie, ELsie, JAxy
Deletethose are my alliance angels! :) Ready to defend me when me is missing in action!
Bah one's high on liquor, one has too many mutts and the other is my minion. So you will still never win. The cat just racks up the enemies and is still standing.
Deleteoh, you live in such illusions, cat...
DeleteThere's too much love over here. I can't take it.
Deleteis you just jealous because Dezzy hasn't given you Angel Wings? I can if you want to? But you must fight against feline orcs!
DeleteHmmm, Kevin Costner, Bill Paxton, Tom Berenger, and Powers Boothe... wow I feel like I'm back in the 90s again, ahah. Not that interested in the film yet though.
ReplyDeleteit will be a mini series, not a film, Flixy :) And yes, those actors came straight from the forgotten past :)
DeleteLooks gory and violent. Could be a big hit!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting!!! Would you believe I've never heard of any of these actors? Clearly I need you in my life Dez!!! :)
ReplyDeleteYou haven't heard of Costner? I used to like him then he turned into a turd so now I hate him. The cat can now put Costner into a Pringle can for all I care.
Deletehaha yeah he made tons of great movies and then became a big turd indeed
DeleteHe did turn into a turd. Have you seen Waterworld? And he dates women that look like 14 year old girls. Disgusting, he needs snip snipped.
Delete@Jaxy
Deletemost of the young actors from the mini series are unknown, but Costner, Boothe, Berenger were stars a few decades ago
@Annzie and cat
DeleteI must admit I never understood why he was popular in the first place :)
He does seem kind of like an a-hole in all of his movies when you really think about it. But many of the movies were good, not saying it was because of him, still I enjoyed them. Silverado is still one of my favorite westerns. Agreed, he should be snip snipped.
Delete@Jax - If you've never heard of Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton, you don't need Dezz. You need the Blue Grumpster and the Cat - You know, the ones who know movies and are not afraid of The Thing. The what? ;)
Deletepffttt, cat's love for Buffy the Vampire Slayer is what qualifies him as someone who knows movies? And his love for Weekend At Bernies? :)
DeleteYou may not see these comments fo a while luv, but that line "this may remind you of how deeply violence and guns is rooted in American society" is so perfectly Dez. I'm thinking of you and wishing you well. I sent you and email dear.
ReplyDeleteI knew you would appreciate that line, Annzie!
DeleteThanks, I've sent you email as soon as I came back from the clinic
Wow, seems like such a big project for The History Channel. I love the period and the cast, will be sure to watch.
ReplyDeleteglad to hear that, Shaw
DeleteGood cast, good trailer, definite one to watch and I need to find the music to the trailer as well!
ReplyDeleteglad you like it so much, Lurk
DeleteHatfields and McCoys, you say? Interesting.
ReplyDeleteBased on guns, violence, and slaughter? You don't say!
yep, it's what it is!
Deleteyeah. don't think i'll be watching that one... a little too violent and sad for my taste.
ReplyDeletemy opinion exactly, Vic!
DeleteI'm not a big fan of Westerns but I may actually watch this one...
ReplyDeleteit might be good, or it might be bad :)
DeleteGood, bad or ugly?
Deleteugly it won't be with all these blond gods in the cast :)
DeleteOMG where do you find the beautiful blond men? I'm so stuck on them. I can't get enough. I'll take one of each.
ReplyDeleteI share your taste, Mikey :) Sam Reid especially!

ReplyDeleteI'm so happy you are back and on the mend my friend. :)
ReplyDeleteThis series should be interesting if a bit more dramatic than actual events. The media were eager for lurid tales back then to sell their penny tales and dime novels. There were 38 deaths in a thirty year period with most of them from a handful incidents that involved lots of people in addition to Hatfields and McCoys. I just saw a documentary on the two families. The Hatfields and McCoys today just shake their head at the "legendary" feud.
dahling how is it that you know so much about this? Is you a member of the same mafia? :PPP
DeleteThe exaggeration that you mention just confirms the fact that the Americans are overly obsessed with guns, paranoia and violence. They love it in their stories, films, shows, news channels, they all have guns in their homes....
My husband is actually in this miniseries (the hot young actor Jonathan Fredrick that you mentioned above - yay!) and is a decendant of the Hatfields himself and is from WV. This was very well researched, and almost everything depicted actually happened. And it is going to be SO GOOD, so I hope everyone watches!
ReplyDeleteooh, your husband is utter hotness :) I'm sure it will be even more fun for you to watch the series when he is in the cast. Wishing him lots of great project in the future career!
