It seems Netflix is trying to find their own All Creatures Great and Small family type of series as they have just ordered a new remake of LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE. Legendary books by Laura Ingalls Wilder with Rebecca Sonnenshine as the showrunner will be turned into a series that will be part hopeful family drama, part epic survival tale, and part origin story of the American West. This fresh adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s iconic semi-autobiographical ‘Little House’ books offers a kaleidoscopic view of the struggles and triumphs of those who shaped the frontier. The books have sold so far in over 70 million copies worldwide.

Netflix is trying it seems to create their own Ted Lasso style series and their latest effort in that field is new comedy series RUNNING POINT set in the world of basketball with Kate Hudson in the lead role. The ten episodes that will be available for streaming February 27th also have Brenda Song, Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, Fabrizio Guido, Toby Sandeman, and two insanely hot hunks Chet Hanks and Jay Ellis in the cast.  WHAT'S THE STORY?

When a scandal forces her brother to resign, Isla Gordon (Kate Hudson) is appointed president of the Los Angeles Waves, one of the most storied professional basketball franchises, and her family business. Ambitious and often overlooked, Isla will have to prove to her skeptical brothers, the board, and the larger sports community that she was the right choice for the job. Max Greenfield and Justin Theroux are some of the names that will guest star in some of the episodes.

HELEN MIRREN TO LEAD SWITZERLAND

In casting reel today, Helen Mirren and Alden Ehrenreich will star in Anton Corbijn's thriller movie SWITZERLAND together with Olivia Cooke. Mirren will play crime novelist and Tom Ripley creator Patricia Highsmith in the film based on a play about Highsmith’s encounter with a young literary agent (Ehrenreich). Set in 1995, an ageing Patricia Highsmith is living a secluded existence in the Swiss Alps with only her cats for company. When a pushy young man turns up at her residence, sent by her New York publisher to persuade her to write a final book in her best-selling Tom Ripley series, it becomes clear he is on a more sinister mission.

Joan Collins will lead the biopic

Meanwhile, our favourite soap star diva Joan Collins will lead Wallis Simpson biopic THE BITTER END from legendary Mike Newell about the American woman who married King Edward VIII and upended the British monarchy. The film will bring us the shocking untold story of Simpson’s final years.

 

MORFYDD CLARK TO LEAD ARCTIC SKIES

Rings of Power Galadriel Morfydd Clark is set to lead UFO thriller movie ARCTIC SKIES. The sci-fi-thriller, inspired by one of the most well-documented UFO encounters on record, follows the harrowing journey of a cargo plane crew who, while flying at 40,000 feet above the Arctic Circle, become the target of otherworldly attention. Ariyon Bakare will also star in the new thriller movie.

Scandi Alliance, which consists of Scandinavian national broadcasters, has announced ROYAL BLOOD epic TV series as their first production. Blått Blod will be a high end historical drama set to air in 2027 on TV2 in Norway, TV2 in Denmark and TV4 in Sweden. The six part epic miniseries will depict the dramatic power struggles between the Nordic royal houses between 1807 and 1814, a period of geopolitical change as Europe’s great powers collided. It will follow ambitious players from Denmark, Norway and Sweden as they seek to leverage power using any means necessary in their quests for supremacy. It will also air in Germany, Belgium and Netherlands.

Patrick Schwarzenegger is Saxon Ratliff, the eldest son of Timothy and Victoria Ratliff, Saxon works for his father’s successful company. Tayme Thapthimthong is Gaitok, a security guard at The White Lotus and Wood is Chelsea, a free-spirit, traveling with her on-edge older boyfriend Rick. Nicholas Duvernay, Arnas Fedaravičius, Scott Glenn also star. In UK it will air on Sky.

JACK PATTEN TO LEAD MGM+ NEW ADVENTURE HISTORICAL TV SERIES TAKE ON ROBIN HOOD

NEW ROBIN HOOD SERIES AT MGM+ 

Back in September I told you that  MGM+ will start shooting their ten episodes new ROBIN HOOD series from John Glenn and director Jonathan English this February in Serbia and now newcomer Jack Patten has been announced as the lead.  It will bring a modern energy to the classic tale of the roguish outlaw hero who stole from the rich and gave to the poor, and the epic love story between him and a courageous and daring Marian. Following the Norman invasion of England, Rob – a Saxon forester’s son – and Marian, the daughter of a Norman lord fall in love and work together to fight for justice and freedom. As Rob rises as the leader of a band of rebel outlaws, Marian infiltrates the power at court, and both work together to thwart royal corruption and bring peace to the land. It is aimed to air at the end of 2025.

FROM NEW RUSSIAN HISTORICAL MOVIE

While Hollywood is sleeping your trusted spy is going global again and taking you over to sweet mother Russia where we managed to dig out just for you first images from new historical adventure movie LEVSHA (which means Lefty) which started filming earlier this winter in two Russian capitals Moscow and Sankt Petersburg with Yuri Kolokolnikov in the lead role. The premiere of the film based on Nikolai Leskov's story is scheduled for January 2026.

  THE STORY IS SET BACK IN
St. Petersburg, 1885. The Russian Empire is on the brink of war with Great Britain. A mysterious device was discovered in the palace of Emperor Alexander III (Artur Ivanov) - a mechanical flea. A British spy with advanced engineering technology is operating in the capital. Secret police officer Ogarev (Fedor Fedotov) is sent to the foreman of the Tula arms factory, known as Lefty (Yuri Kolokolnikov). Together, using Lefty's inventions, they must eliminate a dangerous spy and save the Empire from internal and external threats. In pursuit of a British spy, Ogarev and Lefty are forced to pull off a daring scam, steal the first car in Russia and save the Emperor. Ogarev's courage and resourcefulness, combined with Lefty's ingenuity, create the perfect duo to confront an enemy who is much closer than they expected. Starting February 27th over at Sky is their new original mini series SMALL TOWN, BIG STORY a dramatic comedy starring Christina Hendricks and Paddy Considine in a six-part series set in a rural town Drumbán on the border of Ireland which has a secret that will be revealed when a Hollywood TV production rolls into town! 

 

   THE STORY FOLLOWS

Wendy Patterson (Hendricks), a local girl who found success as a TV producer in Los Angeles and returns to Drumbán after over 20 years, having left under something of a cloud. Back in the chaotic microcosm of Drumbán, this time with a film crew in tow, Wendy is caught between her past and her epic new production. Séamus Proctor (Considine) is the local doctor, a respected pillar of the community. He has a neat and well-ordered life, or at least he thinks he does. Soon he will find himself in the eye of a storm as a celluloid circus descends, which threatens to blow open a secret he has been harbouring since the Millennium.

 

WHO ELSE IS IN THE CAST?

Eileen Walsh stars as Catherine Proctor, Séamus’ wife and local schoolteacher. Leia Murphy and David Rawle star as siblings Joanne and Sonny Proctor. Patrick Martins, Evanne Kilgallon, Andrew Bennett, David Wilmot, Michèle Forbes, Sam C Wilson, Peter McGann, Jamie Michie, Ian McElhinney, Clarke Peters, and Emmy Award winner Chris O’Dowd, who is also the show's creator and director, will all also be seen in the new series. We have seen a number of films and shows on the Russian tsarina, but now February 20th is bringing CATHERINE THE GREAT (Екатерина Великая) lavish high end documentary movie which mixes documentary narrative with live action scenes into Russian cinemas as the continuation of the documentary franchise that includes Peter I: The First and the Last and Empresses. Directed by famous Andrey Kravchuk, it sees Anna Mikhalkova, Olga Lerman, who play the older and younger Catherine, and Victor Dobronravov in the lead roles.

WHAT IS THE STORY OF THE NEW MOVIE?

After the era of palace coups, a new bright historical figure will appear - Catherine II. Like many, she could limit herself to the title of the emperor’s wife, but with her perseverance and determination, Catherine was able to prove that her place was on the throne. At the age of 14, she learned that she was to become the bride of Peter III and the mother of the future heir. These statuses did not worry Catherine much; her cherished dream was to rule: she saw the potential of the Russian Empire and wanted to embody the ideas of enlightenment in it. Opening the romantic season is our dearest hunk Robert Buckley in AN UNEXPECTED VALENTINE which lands on Hallmark as soon as February 1st launching the first Loveuary weekend. A chance encounter on Valentine's Day brings Hannah and Finn together as they race through New York City to return a lost engagement ring and save one couple's special day. Lacey Chabert takes the female lead in this one. Marco Soriano and Anthony Timpano also star in the new movie. Check out the teaser below:

Also arriving to Hallmark next month ready to close it on the last weekend is SISTERHOOD, INC. which will have its premiere February 22nd with Rachael Leigh Cook in the lead role. their upcoming movies, could March be the royal month? We do not know yet, but we do know our dearest Andrew Walker will lead one of them. THE RELUCTANT ROYAL will see him play Johnny, a mechanic in Philly who is royally surprised by the revelation that his dad is a duke! While reconnecting with his dad doesn’t go exactly as planned this reunion does have the added bonus of meeting an advisor to the duke no less, Prudence (Emilie de Ravin). Then there is also THE ROYAL WE in which lovely Mallory Jansen will play princess Bea who is forced into an arranged marriage with a prince (Charlie Carrick) from a small kingdom after her older sister elopes with a non-royal. Another of our fave hunks William Moseley, who is no stranger to prince roles, will wear a crown again in ROYAL-ISH in which Nichole Sakura will play Lacey, an amusement park princess who befriends 8-year-old Rose, a real-life princess, and is recruited by her handsome father to travel to their kingdom and be the new governess.

After announcing that BBC and PBS will air the second season of Canal + English language series MARIE ANTOINETTE sometime this year, we now have the first set images to show you the capricious French queen in costumes for the new season. After finally finding their footing in the first season, Marie Antoinette and her husband King Louis face an unprecedented financial crisis where disastrous consequences threaten ominously. Canal + will launch the Affair of the Necklace season from February 17th.
