German is better doing ww2 movies...we are watching a mini Swedish series Breakthrough based on a real story. I quite like Scandinavian series...so much better than French.
ReplyDeleteI am currently translating a Scandinavian novel, the second one in my career from those regions. They have extremely simple sentence and they don't do descriptions, everything is very basic in their books but the do depict characters nicely.
DeleteYou are right. I have fallen in love with German period pieces becuse of their honesty and realism, especially in series like Das Boot (2018), second season of Charite, The Sinking of the Laconia, the rise of Nazism in Babylon Berlin and the postwar in Ku'Damm.
DeleteThey don't have the tendency to cover up or justify themselves? Because I know Balctic countries, Croatia and Ukraine do very much so.
DeleteI know what you mean, I loved Madame K but in her portrait of Soviet Occupation of Estonia during 39-41, ruskies are so dastardly, you long for Germans to invade. When German television began making series about WWII (at least the ones that went abroad) they played victims a bit. I’m talking about Die Gustloff and the one that got accolades (an Emmy) that in English is known as Generation War. Very different from the ones that came after Tannbach. You still find that we criticize in the ones based in novels like The Deserter (with our baby Jannis) or a couple with Elisa Schlott, and that Canadian mess The Defeated. In general, and I think they won’t be making more, are very authentic, accurate and mature when it comes to the Third Reich. By the way, they seldom apologize for the Holocaust, which I find refreshingly honest because they tend to have good Jews and bad Jews. I think they won’t be making more, because their latest effort on that field, House of Promises sucked big.
DeleteIt is the same in their literature of modern days.
DeleteMas um excelente filme para os fãs que gosta de guerra, a história vai prender a atenção do público, Dezmond abraços.

Hope you manage to find it in your country.
DeleteLooks a little slow, but I'd still give this one a try. Though we won't get it here, I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteIt is visually quite bland.
