BritBox has released first trailer for their upcoming four part series A CRUEL LOVE: THE RUTH ELLIS STORY with Lucy Boynton as the last woman hanged in UK. Laurie Davidson, Toby Jones, Toby 
Stephens, Mark Stanley, Joe Armstrong and Arthur Darvill complete the stellar cast of the series set in 1955 in the glamorous and intoxicating 
world
of London club-land. Ellis was the capital’s youngest club manager but
her success soon unraveled as she became entwined in a relationship with
racing driver David Blakely and then fell into a love triangle. On
trial for his murder, she was condemned to hang and she became the last
woman to be
hanged in Britain. The series will start on BritBox February 17th and should later also air on ITV. Check out the trailer below:

I was thinking of subscribing to BritBox for this, but it is too dark. I'll wait till PBS picks it up.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure it will go to PBS, it is BritBox in USA as well and then ITV on linear in UK. I am on the fence with this one, I want to watch it because of Laurie Davidson, but I don't want to watch a series that glorifies a murderer just because she is a woman.
DeleteI may watch Miss Austen, because of Keeley, not even Leo darling can get me to try Linley. I’m sick and tired of this mysteries that are not such. Truth be told, I have so much to watch, and so much goodies available, that I won’t feel deprived until late Spring.
DeleteTalking about BritBox remember they showed Hotel Portofino first, and five months later was in PBS. Going over its library, with few exceptions, all their content can be found in other platforms.
Yes, because BritBox is actually BBC and ITV together, but since they later on both opened their own streamers, BritBox kinda losts its mojo. Sometimes things from it air on ITV a year or more later, it is very weird. I hear that PBS channel on Prime Video has Sisi season 3 now on, so you can watch it there, it was visually beautiful at least.
DeleteIN USA, PBS runs in two platforms, Amazon and Thirteenth Passport. In Amazon, you have to pay double, for Amazon and PBS. The advantage is that the service includes Walter Presents programs, that is where Sissi fits in. Sorry my interest in Sisi has run its course.
DeleteI am looking forward to the final season which just ended in Germany. Hope I find it somewhere at some point. It was by far visually most beautiful costume drama ever from cinematography and sets to costumes and scenes.
DeleteBut why did she kill David Blakely? Well, people use LOVE as the excuse to do all sorts of weird and horrible things...that's pretty sick.

DeleteI may watch it just to know what theory they embraced. For decades people has spoke of the case as a miscarriage of justice, but nobody knows why she did it. She was engaged to a rich man who may have put her up to kill Blakely, but why? In "Dance with a stranger" she killed Blakely out of jealousy because he was going to marry a woman of his class. Who knows, she had a terrible life. her father raped her and her sister (in fact, got her sister pregnant), Ruth was a prostitute, she posed for nude pictures, ect. Her husband and son committed suicide.
DeleteI am hoping she will not be justified and made a victim in this one, I am sick of that.We had a wife kill her husband, cut him into pieces and cover him with concrete in their basement a few years ago and all women were like, poor woman, god only knows what he did to her to make her do that. It turns out the deranged psycho killer did it because she had a lover while husband was working in Russia to earn money for them so she killed him to be with her lover. So, even though he was a complete victim, a good and hard working man and a father, and got killed by his maniacal wife who cut him into pieces, they still tried to justify the bitch.
DeleteI know, probably they will turn ellis into a victim so no point in watching it, by the way I'm resting my case with Blake. Apparently, she was taking advantage of this woke era where all women are victim of men. if she fails, it would be a triumph for the anti-woke movement.
DeleteIt is sad, because this is the second series with my boy Laurie that I will not be watching probably. Blake is pure evil like Beyonce.
