First image has been released of our favourite soap star diva Joan Collins as the lead in Wallis Simpson biopic THE BITTER END from legendary Mike Newell about the American woman who married King Edward VIII and upended the British monarchy. The film will bring us the shocking untold story of Simpson’s final years. Isabella Rossellini joins her as Suzanne Blum, the formidable French lawyer and confidante of Simpson who at the hands of Blum found herself ensnared in a menacing grip of obsession and coercive control. Lambert Wilson also stars.

HELEN MIRREN TO LEAD SWITZERLAND

In casting reel today, Helen Mirren and Alden Ehrenreich will star in Anton Corbijn's thriller movie SWITZERLAND together with Olivia Cooke. Mirren will play crime novelist and Tom Ripley creator Patricia Highsmith in the film based on a play about Highsmith’s encounter with a young literary agent (Ehrenreich). Set in 1995, an ageing Patricia Highsmith is living a secluded existence in the Swiss Alps with only her cats for company. When a pushy young man turns up at her residence, sent by her New York publisher to persuade her to write a final book in her best-selling Tom Ripley series, it becomes clear he is on a more sinister mission.

Rings of Power Galadriel Morfydd Clark is set to lead UFO thriller movie ARCTIC SKIES. The sci-fi-thriller, inspired by one of the most well-documented UFO encounters on record, follows the harrowing journey of a cargo plane crew who, while flying at 40,000 feet above the Arctic Circle, become the target of otherworldly attention. Ariyon Bakare will also star in the new thriller movie.

Joan has obviously done her own make up as is her wont

She begun shooting her part in the wildly epic historical series GLOW AND DARKNESS which will follow the life of Saint Francis of Assisi and allthe legendary historical persons he met during the 12th century (read more here). In the series, Joan Collins (87) will play queen Adelaide of Maurienne, the second wife of King Louis VI with whom she had nine children. She was the most politically active of all France's medieval queens, with her name appearing on 45 royal charters from the reign of Louis VI! The cast also includes Denise Richards and Jane Seymour as Queen Eleanor

Dominic Andersen plays Francis de Assisi in the series

of Aquitaine with her son Richard the Lionheart also featuring in the series. The saga, which is planned in three seasons, has six more months left of shooting thanks to corona.

A few months ago when I first informed you about the marvellously lavish new epic TV series GLOW AND DARKNESS (Resplandor y Tinieblas) we did not know who would lead the cast, and now it has been revealed that hunky (the cast generally has the highest level of hunkiness we've seen in decades) Dominic Andersen will take the role of Francis of Assisi in this nine episode English language Spanish series which will, produced by José Luis Moreno, cover the life and times of some of the most important figures of the Middle Ages who met the protagonist Saint Francis of Assisi, during the 13th century, a spectacular period of history ruled by ambition, cruelty, religion and the clash of Christian and Saracen cultures. Here's another period set new TV series for us: Karen Blixen's famous memoirs OUT OF AFRICA, which were once turned into a classic movie with Meryl Streep and Robert Redford, will be turned into a TV series. The Night Manager's Susan Bier is to produce and also direct the small screen adaptation which  recounts the seventeen years that Blixen spent in Africa in the Ngong Hills of Kenya during the last decades of the British Empire as she searched to find her role and voice in a changing world. Heyday Television, known for Harry Potter, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas and Gravity and Paddington, is producing.

The movie is out July 1st in Europe and July 22nd in America.
