ICE AGE SF "THE COLONY" TRAILER WITH LAURENCE FISBURNE, BILL PAXTON! JON SNOW, DRAGON QUEEN & KING OF NORTH NEW "GAME OF THRONES" PICS! TIMOTHY SPALL IN MIKE LEIGH'S HISTORICAL BIOPIC ON JMW TURNER!

Your main treat for today are great new pictures announcing the third season of popular HBO epic show GAME OF THRONES! For some reason, "Entertainment Weekly" has decided to focus mostly on Kit Harington's Jon Snow character and Emilia Clarke's Daenerys Targaryen, but you can also see a picture of Snow with his brother Robb Stark king of the North magnificently portrayed by Richard Madden. The ten episode third season will air in USA March 31st and the next day around the world. The season is based on STORM OF SWORDS, the third book in George R.R. Martin's epic fantasy saga SONG OF ICE AND FIRE and will depict new wars and conflicts including men, dragons and even some strange looking zombies. The cast has tones of new additions including Nathalie Emmanuel as Missandei, a Naathi servant of DaenerysTargaryen, Tara Fitzgerald as Selyse Baratheon, Stannis Baratheon's wife, CiarĂ¡n Hinds as Mance Rayder, the Wildling "King Beyond The Wall", Diana Rigg as Olenna Tyrell, the "Queen of Thorns", Margaery and Loras Tyrell's grandmother, with the musicians Will Champion of Coldplay and Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol making cameo appearances! HOLLYWOOD SPY posted new trailers for the show earlier this week!

MIKE LEIGH'S FILM ON 18TH CENTURY PAINTER TURNER
Here's another historical project for you: seven time Oscar nominee Mike Leigh and Sony are ready to shoot a biopic on famous British painter JMW TURNER who
is considered England's greatest artist of all times. Timothy Spall will take the lead role in the project that Mike Leigh has been preparing for ten years now. Living in the 18th and 19th century, Turner was considered a controversial figure in his day, but is now regarded as the artist who elevated landscape painting to an eminence rivalling history painting. Although renowned for his oil paintings, Turner is also one of the greatest masters of British watercolour landscape painting. He is commonly known as "the painter of light"! He had an eccentric and often reclusive private life. Leigh has already chosen tones of Oscar winning make up artists, costume designers and cinematographers to work on the film.

  THE COLONY TRAILER
One of the films HOLLYWOOD SPY has been following with great interest is finally getting its premiere this April: THE COLONY a polar sf thriller starring Laurence Fisburne, Kevin Zegers and Bill
Paxton. Laurence Fishburne stars as Colony leader Briggs, who struggles to hold power after deciding to lead an expedition to rescue a group of lost colonists. Beneath the icy surface, survivors of Colony Seven struggle as food supplies dwindle and temperatures continue to drop. Plagued by illness and internal conflict, the colonists suspect the worst when they mysteriously lose contact with Colony Five - the only other known settlement. Sam, a strong-willed mechanic with a tragic past, joins a team headed up by Briggs on a dangerous expedition to find out what happened. After a hellish trek, they discover a threat much worse than imagined, and now Colony Seven must win a savage battle to preserve the last of humanity.

  1. Wonderful post... Thrones! Ding! Ding!... I just watched a film "A Royal Affair"... it was a sad, but entertaining film... the reason for the information is that in the bonus features was the history of the story and your "Turner" photo made me think about it...

    Have a glorious day!

    1. I first considered posting Timothy Spall's pic instead of a Turner one, but it is almost impossible finding a Spall pic which wouldn't scare my tender readers :)

      Have a glorious evening!

  2. Love those posters for GOT. I tend to focus on Kit Harrington too. :))

And I have not heard of JMW Turner, which of course only shows my ignorance. I think I'd like a show about him, though.

    1. especially on that legendary shirtless pic of his, right? :)
Turner mostly painted terribly monotonous paintings of British landscapes. I personally don't like his style. My fave British painters are Lawrence Alma Tadema and John Millais :)

    3. Yep, Eastern Bunny came early and brought me eggs decorated at Faberge :) I think you will love the design that comes after Easter too, and I shall wear totally new, never before seen, colours on me :) and will have a new trade mark flower for the Spring.

  4. Great pictures thanks!! I particularly love the one where Dany and Jon laugh, it is so unlikely to happen in the show that it's nice to see sometimes, off set ;)

  5. Good stuff here today Dez. I just started to watch GOT (I've read the first four books and there were no laughs there, either), I love Mike Leigh, and The Colony looks very intriguing.

Yep, R.R.Martin is just too overly dark for me personally, it wouldn't hurt him if he'd put a warm moment here or there in his stories :(

  7. Hi Dezzy - Love your new avatar. So gorgeous!

    The Colony might be good.

I've tried watching Game of Thrones a couple of times. I haven't gotten into it yet. Now, if Orlando Bloom took a part... well then, yeah, I'd watch. Why? I have a thing for Orlando in pirate shirts. =) Erm, okay, I will get into this show. I will. =)

    1. thanks, I do have some serious style, don't I? :PPP

It is difficult following the show sometimes since it has way too many characters and most of them are just passing by and it is almost impossible remembering who is who to whom and who belongs to which family....

  8. Dany is quite attractive, I'm a bit disappointed with Ygritte's actress though, her hair isn't red enough for my liking.

  10. Kit makes me go weak in the knees, he's so hot. I know you don't like the series GOT, but I loved the books and I deeply respect Martin as a man and as a writer. He will not give into pressure from his publishers just to make money. He went off to do some work in illustrated comics and kept us all waiting for a couple years on the next book in the series. He wrote it when it was time to write it and did it well rather than pander to the masses.

Oooh that biopic on Turner should be really good. Very much anticipating seeing that one. I just went through about a month long journey through biopics of artists and writers and it was great. Such sad stories though, but great art is often born from great pain.

    1. I don't like him because I think it is dangerous filling books with so much darkness, pessimism and brutality.

Yes, that is true, most artist use their unhappiness and grief as generators for creativity and work.

    2. I know darling and generally I do agree with you on that. Most fantasy novels don't go in that direction and this isn't typical of the genre. The more disturbing thing is that new fantasy that is directed at young people are incorporating too much of the dark side. Good should always triumph over evil in a work of fantasy. Elsewise it would not be fantasy, it would be non-fiction.

    3. And YA readers are getting so numb to the violence that one of these days they will become impassive to real life violence too. This is why they so easily support wars and invasions which their governments do around the world - they don't really have a sensitivity towards real bloodshed, all is fiction to them and they watch news like they watch a film...

    1. I do adore such films set in freezing regions :)
I've been thinking about the trend of ten episode shows and I think I like it. Some shows get boring when they have 20 episodes (ONCE UPON A TIME for example) so maybe it's better when shows, especially epic ones, last for half a season. And they can put more money into episodes that way too. The only show I wish would last longer is THE WALKING DEAD - each episode inspires deep excitement in me and I hate parting with the show - but that one has about 15 episodes per season.

  16. I wish I could see GoT, but I don't have HBO and refuse to pay so much money for the DVD's. Even though the men hot. ;) I have not read the books, either as George R.R. Martin's writing does not appeal to me. There are plenty of the female written epics that are much better. I'll probably get bashed for that, but I don't care. the man's writing sucks. Amazing what sheep people are when the right TV studio or film studio tells us what to like.
