TO PLAY MAGELLAN IN  A NEW MOVIE

With an aim to possibly premiere it at Cannes, Lav Diaz is preparing a historical movie MAGELLAN on 16th Century Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan to be played by Gael Garcia Bernal. Originally titled Beatriz, The Wife, the film was inspired by the life of Magellan’s wife Beatriz Barbosa de Magallanes. They married in 1517, living together for just two years before Magellan set off on an expedition to southeast Asia, from which he would never return. As Deadline reports, the new, two and a half hour long version will focus more on the explorer and his travels and less on his wife.

UKTV NEW DRAMA SERIES GETS AIR DATE

Murder mystery starts this April on Alibi

UKTV has announced Wednesday, April 23rd as the start date for their new six episode mini series I, JACK WRIGHT on their special crime drama channel Alibi. It will also stream at some point later on at BritBox for viewers in USA,  on RTBF in Belgium, SVT in Sweden, RUV in Iceland, NRK in Norway, DR in Denmark and YLE in Finland. WHAT'S THE STORY 

Jack Wright (Trevor Eve) is a powerful and successful businessman, who leaves his family in disarray when they learn of his suicide. When the provisions of Jack’s final will and testament are made known, his third wife, Sally (Nikki Amuka-Bird), and two sons, Gray (John Simm) and John (Daniel Rigby), are shocked to discover they have been largely cut out of Jack’s enormous fortune. As DCI Morgan (Harry Lloyd) and DC Jones (Liz Kingsman) delve further into the case, they realise Jack’s cause of death was in fact murder. Their sights turn to the Wright family, where the mother of all feuds is beginning. As each family member becomes more reckless and desperate in their bid to own a piece of Jack’s legacy, dark secrets and resentments are revealed with explosive consequences. Gemma Jones stars as Rose Wright. This new series is a propulsive, darkly comic and moving murder mystery family drama which offers many twists and turns as one family deals with treachery and hidden agendas from all involved.

Ransom Canyon starts April 17th on Netflix

Netflix is releasing on April 17th their ten episode series based on Jodi Thomas book series RANSOM CANYON and you can watch the trailer with Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly as leads of this romance-fueled family drama and contemporary western saga that charts the intersecting lives and loves of three ranching families set against the sweeping tundras and rolling rivers of Texas hill country. Duhamel plays Staten Kirkland, the owner and sole occupant of a sprawling ranch. He is steadfast and stoic, and leads the charge to resist outside forces threatening his way of life and the land that he loves. Kelly plays Quinn, who has often found herself in the shadow of others, but after a stint in New York pursuing her career as a concert pianist, she has returned to Ransom Canyon to carve out a new path for herself. Eoin Macken, Tatanka Means and James Brolin also star.

Primitive War arrives soon to cinemas

We have a trailer for  Luke Sparke directed fantasy action thriller PRIMITIVE WAR with Jeremy Piven, Tricia Helfer, Ryan Kwanten, and Nick Wechsler. An adaption of Ethan Pettus’ novel follows a squad of soldiers in 1968 who discover that dinosaurs have been let loose in the jungles of Vietnam. The recon unit known as Vulture Squad is sent to an isolated jungle valley touncover the fate of a missing Green Beret platoon, only to discover they are not alone. Anthony Ingruber, Aaron Glenane, Carlos Sanson Jr, Ana Thu Nguyen, Adolphus Waylee, Richard Brancatisano, Marcus Johnson, and Jake Ryan also star in the film which is coming soon to the cinemas.

Angel Studios has released a trailer for their new historical action movie TRUTH AND TREASON which will open in cinemas October 17th starring  Rupert Evans, Ewan Horrocks, Ferdinand McKay, Daf Thomas and Sean Mahon. Originally enivisoned as a series but then turned into a movie, it revolves around Helmuth Hüebener, a 16-year-old boy whol forms a resistance group with his friends Karl and Rudi after witnessing the arrest of his Jewish friends by Nazis. STAR TREK SEASON 3 TEASER IS HERE

It seems it's been years since the second season, but Paramount + promises the third season of STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS science fiction series is finally arriving sometime this summer although we still do not have the official date set yet. They did release today a teaser announcing what we can expect from the new season. It is interesting that the fourth season is currently in production over in Canada. 

 

IN THE BRAND NEW SEASON

 Anson Mount returns as Captain Pike at the helm of USS Enterprise in the conclusion of season two’s scary battle with the Gorn which ended with a cliff hanger. Now, new life and civilizations await the crew, including a villain that will test our characters’ grit and resolve and take characters both new and beloved to new heights, and dive into thrilling adventures of faith, duty, romance, comedy, and mystery, with varying genres never before seen on any other Star Trek. As you can see there will be a retro murder mystery aboard the ship which will also see the return of Paul Wesley as James T. Kirk. Rebecca Romijn, Ethan Peck, Jess Bush, Christina Chong, Celia Rose Gooding, Melissa Navia all return as regular crew members, alongside guest stars Rhys Darby, Patton Oswalt,and Carol Kane. The series will again stream on Paramount Plus and in some parts of Europe on SkyShowtime. Beside the fact that one of the episodes will see the crew of Enterprise turn Vulcan, we also know that Cillian O’Sullivan will be joining the new season as a recurring guest star, playing the legacy role of Dr. Roger Korby, a renowned archaeologist and scientist known for his groundbreaking work in the field of medical archaeology. Martin Quinn, as a young version of future Enterprise chief engineer Montgomery Scott will also be a regular now.

I told you last month that BBC is working with Catherine Shepherd on TWO WEEKS IN AUGUST thriller series that tells the story of a woman who goes on holiday to Greece with her family and friends to rediscover joy in her life. Zoe begins to act on her deepest desires and the holiday she hoped for becomes a reckoning for a group of adults who refuse to grow up. But when they discover they are trapped on the island, and become faced with real life-or-death situations, the group soon turn on each other to find out who is to blame. Now we know that Jessica Raine will star as Zoe, Damien Molony as her troubled husband Dan, Nicholas Pinnock as their old friend Solomon and Antonia Thomas as his new wife Jess, alongside Leila Farzad and Hugh Skinner as uni friends Nat and Jacob.

We are getting yet another TV series based on Arthur Connan Doyle's famous detective hero Sherlock Holmes. Harry King Television will start production on TRUE SHERLOCK next January with Oli Higginson already cast as Sherlock and Will Kemp as Moriarty. Based on Nicholas Sercombe’s book series The Unexpurgated Adventures of Sherlock Holmes this new series will depict the origins of Holmes, Watson, Mrs Hudson, and Professor Moriarty. Sercombe will also be the showrunner!

Last month I announced that Sam Worthington will lead Netflix TV series adaptation of Harlan Coben's I WILL FIND YOUas David Burroughs, an innocent father serving a life sentence for the murder of his own son, a crime he didn’t commit, yet a tragedy he punishes himself for every day. When David receives evidence that his child may still be alive, he must break out of prison to find out the truth. Now we know that Milo Ventimiglia has joined him as a man from prominent Boston family who finds purpose in working for his family’s philanthropic foundations. Britt Lower, Logan Browning, Erin Richards will also star as a reporter, an FBI investigator, and as David's ex wife, a pediatric surgeon. Jonathan Tucker will play his best friend.
