Paul Alexander Nolan has joined as Alfred Merrick, a dashing, wealthy New Yorkbusinessman, who has all the hallmarks of the old money set – elegance, refinement and sophistication. The Russells invite him to dine at their home in the hopes of charming him into a business deal. Gilded Age returns October 29th
Well, it has been an extremely long wait, but HBO is finally bringing us the second season of Julian Fellowes' wonderful and highly entertaining costume drama GILDED AGE which will land October 29th with eight new episodes set again during the Gilded Age in America, a period of immense economic change, of great conflict between the old ways and brand new systems and of fortunes made and lost. Over in the United Kingdom, the new season will start a day later, October 30th on Sky Atlantic! Today you can check out the insanely gorgeous and super glitzy costumes in the brand new trailer that has been released today filled with lavish gowns and even more lavish sets, it is splendour all around:
 
THE SECOND SEASON
 begins on Easter morning 1883, with the news that Bertha Russell’s (Carrie Coon) bid for a box at the Academy of Music has been rejected. Throughout the season, Bertha challenges Mrs. Astor (Donna Murphy) and the old system and works to not only gain a foothold in Society but to potentially take a leading role in it. George Russell (Morgan Spector) takes on his own battle with a growing union at his steel plant in Pittsburgh. In the Brook House, Marian (Louisa Jacobson) continues her journey to find her way in the world secretly teaching at a girls’ school while much to everyone’s surprise Ada (Cynthia Nixon) begins a new courtship. Of course, Agnes (Christine Baranski) approves of none of it. In Brooklyn, the Scott family begins to heal from a shocking discovery, and Peggy (Denée Benton) taps into her activist spirit through her work with T. Thomas Fortune at the NY Globe. PREMIUM SPOTLIGHT ON JULIAN FELLOWES' NEW 19TH CENTURY NEW YORK SET COSTUME SERIES THE GILDED AGE WHICH STARTS NEXT WEEK FILLED WITH BALLS, GOWNS AND SPLENDOUR

New series starts this Monday on HBO Max
First reactions on this one are mixed, from some praising its lavish looks to some comparing it to watching the paint dry, but you will be able to judge for yourself as new nine episode historical series THE GILDED AGE coming from Julian Fellowes is coming to HBO Monday January 24th and then the next day to Sky in UK as well.
It begins in 1882, with young Marian Brook (Louisa Jacobson), the orphaned daughter of a Union general who moves into the New York City home of her thoroughly old money aunts Agnes van Rhijn (Christine Baranski) and Ada Brook (Cynthia Nixon). Marian inadvertently becomes caught up in a social war between one of her aunts, a scion of the old money
New Julian Fellowes' series will air in nine hourlong episodes
set, and her stupendously rich neighbors, the ruthless railroad tycoon and his ambitious wife, George and Bertha Russell, plus their son Larry.
 BERTHA RUSSELL
Played by Carrie Coon, she is determined to use her money and position to break into a polite society that resists change at every turn. She is ambitious and desperate to join the cream of society and not entirely likeable. She enjoys egalitarian marriage with George.

GEORGE RUSSELL
Played by Morgan Spector he is a classic robber baron representing "new money". He is a wealthy and ruthless railroad tycoon. He takes pleasure in every part of his life with huge vitality. Sometimes he can be a bit vile too.

AGNES VAN RHIJN
Played by Christine Baranski, she is a proud and stubborn old money Dutch-American socialite clinging to the old values of New York City's elite. She is the pillar of the established upper class and a sort of a snob. 

 MARIAN BROOK
Played by Louisa Jacobson (a rather bland face, who happens to be Meryl Streep's daughter, nepotism much?) Marian Brook is penniless and sent to live with her estranged aunts! She is a sensible and kind pragmatist, except in love.
 
 ADA BROOK
Played by Cynthia Nixon, she is optimistic, unmarried sister of Agnes and reliant upon her charity. She is middle aged, but has a heart of a girl. She is excited about the arrival of her niece, as she has no children of her own.
 
PEGGY SCOTT
Played by Denée Benton, she is a young ambitious writer returning home after finishing her education. She is one of the first people that Marian meets upon her arrival in New York. Peggy  does not care what the society thinks.
 
TOM RAIKES
Played by Australian hunkster and actor Thomas Cocquerel! He is a very charming and decent, young lawyer from Pennsylvania who is smitten with Marian, despite Agnes’ disapproval. He moves to New York to be close to her and work there.

OSCAR VAN RHIJN
Played by Blake Ritson who is well known to the fans of historical and period set shows and dramas.The prodigal son of Agnes is a man about town with a few secrets of his own. He is secretly in a gay relationship with his best friend Adams.

LARRY RUSSELL
Played by Poldark's Harry Richardson. Having just returned from Harvard, the debonair son of George and Bertha is starting to meet all the right people while he tries to sort the path he will take with his life. He actually wants to be an architect.

NETFLIX RELEASES TRAILERS FOR SOPHIA LOREN'S MOVING DRAMA THE LIFE AHEAD AND DOLLY PARTON'S CHRISTMAS ON THE SQUARE FESTIVE MOVIE MUSICAL

THE LIFE AHEAD TRAILER
 BRINGS BACK SOPHIA LOREN TO WORK AFTER TEN YEARS
The Life Ahead streams November 13th
Netflix has finally released a trailer for upcoming drama movie THE LIFE AHEAD with Sophia Loren and it is very moving indeed. Directed by her son Edoardo Ponti and scheduled for streaming from November 13th, the possible award contender next season is set in seaside Italy, where Italian acting legend Sophia Loren plays a Holocaust survivor with a daycare business who takes in a 12-year-old street kid (Ibrahima Gueye) who recently robbed her. The film is actually a remake of a French foreign language movie Oscar winner from 1977 with Simone Signoret. The film will stream worldwide on Netflix next month. This is Sophia's first movie after a ten year pause.

DOLLY PARTON'S CHRISTMAS ON THE SQUARE MOVIE MUSICAL

Speaking of old divas, check out country music queen Dolly Parton in the trailer for musical movie DOLLY PARTON'S CHRISTMAS ON THE SQUARE which will sing its way onto Netflix November 22nd with 14 original new festive songs (written by Dolly) and with Christine Baranski as a rich and nasty woman, Regina Fuller, who returns to her small home town after her father’s death to evict everyone and sell the land to a mall developer – right before Christmas. However, after listening to the stories of the local townsfolk, reconnecting with an old love, and accepting the guidance of an actual angel (Dolly Parton), Regina starts to have a change of heart.
