TV SERIES RELEASE DATE ANNOUNCED

BBC has released the first trailer for new ten part period drama THE OTHER BENNET SISTER based on Janice Hadlow’s novel. In the UK the series will air two episodes a week each Sunday from 15th of March while BritBox will premiere the series exclusively in the US and Canada a bit later on to be precise - on the 6th of May. 

THIS NEW COSTUME TV SERIES

reimagines the world of Pride and Prejudice through the eyes of Mary Bennet - the oft-overlooked middle sister - bringing a fresh perspective to Jane Austen’s iconic story as Mary steps out of the shadows and into her own life. Starring Ella Bruccoleri as Mary Bennet, the series begins at Longbourn, where the Bennet family’s five unmarried daughters navigate the rigid expectations of Regency society. Her journey sees her leave her family home for the soirées of Regency London and the peaks and vales of the Lake District, all in search of independence, self-love, and reinvention. We follow Mary as she steps out of her sisters’ shadows in search of her own identity and purpose, finding herself in the middle of an epic love story along the way. Iconic settings from Pride and Prejudice include the Meryton Assembly Ball and the Netherfield Ball, where fortunes and futures are decided under glittering chandeliers. Richard E. Grant and Ruth Jones play her parents, with Indira Varma and Richard Coyle set as Mr and Mrs Gardiner, Mary’s worldly aunt and uncle. The Gardiners take Mary under their  wing as governess to their three children, Marianne (Roisin Bhalla), George (Reggie Absolom), and Rebecca (Jasmine Sharp), introducing her to a  new social world that includes Mr Hayward (Donal Finn), Mr Ryder (Laurie Davidson), and Ann Baxter (Varada Sethu). After the first images released back in December last year, BBC and BritBox have released some new images for their THE OTHER BENNET SISTER which tells the story of Mary Bennet, played by Ella Bruccoleri, the seemingly unremarkable and overlooked middle sister in Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. Richard E. Grant and Ruth Jonesplay her parents, with Indira Varma and Richard Coyle set as Mr and Mrs Gardiner, Mary’s worldly aunt and uncle. The Gardiners take Mary under their wing as governess to their three children, Marianne (Roisin Bhalla), George (Reggie Absolom), and Rebecca (Jasmine Sharp), introducing her to a new social world that includes Mr Hayward (Donal Finn), Mr Ryder (Laurie Davidson), and Ann Baxter (Varada Sethu). It will have ten half hour episodes and will air sometime in March this year on BBC One in United Kingdom and on BritBox over in Northern America. Kelly, who is attacked at an illicit rave on a tidal islet alongside her friend Jessica (Sadie Soverall), an elite gymnastics teammate who seemingly has it all. Vinette Robinson stars as Jessica’s controlling and toxic mother Natalie and Warren Brown is Kelly’s hard working father Paul who struggles with his own impulse control. Richard Coyle stars as successful solicitor Jules, Sonny Walker as Adam, Ryan Quarmby as Charlie and newcomer Luca Kamleh-Chapman as Bazi. It is a whodunit – or, in this case – a whydunit, focusing on a group of disparate teenagers and their parents, each character  has a motive for attacking Kelly. An accomplished gymnast, on the National Team pathway, Kelly is committed to her strict training schedule but finds freedom and liberation in the joyous, unregulated world of free running. Each episode privileges a different character’s lens to give insight into the respective worlds of these teenagers and their families and allows the viewer to speculate who committed the crime. A series that leans into the controversial and the provocative, it examines the intertwined sex lives, loyalties and rivalries of a group of teens. And asks how they can negotiate their sense of identity and freedom in the face of surveillance parenting.

Channel 4 has revealed lead cast for their new mini series THE GATHERING about the violent attack on a teenage girl in a tidal islet. Set on Merseyside and interrogating the ways in which today’s parents impose their agendas, the drama focuses on a group of teens from disparate backgrounds, each of whom could have committed the crime, along with their parents – who give equal cause for suspicion. Vinette Robinson will play pushy mother Natalie with Eva Morgan and Sadie Soverall as leads, Kelly and Jessica. Warren Brown is Kelly’s hard working single parent Paul, and Richard Coyle is successful solicitor Jules! Sonny Walker, Luca Kamleh- Chapman and Hebron Tedros also star.

After Venice, Toronto and Locarno, San Sebastian movie festival has also unveiled part of its line up and set to premiere and compete there this September is Swedish Danish co production MOTHER, COUCH! from a debut feature filmmaker Niclas Larsson which follows three estranged children who are brought together when their mother refuses to move from a couch in a furniture store! With Ewan McGregor as lead, the cast also includes Ellen Burstyn and Taylor Russell.
