ELIZABETH BANKS TO DIRECT EPIC FANTASY ADAPTATION OF VICTORIA AVEYARD'S 'RED QUEEN' BESTSELLER? BRADLEY COOPER TO PRODUCE 'HYPERION' SF SERIES FOR SYFY

  ELIZABETH BANKS TO
 HELM 'RED QUEEN' ADAPTATION?
Yet another of the sf bestsellers that your dear Dezzy the spy is translating this summer RED QUEEN is, as I've informed you earlier, getting a movie adaptation, and now THR reports that Elizabeth Banks will direct it after scoring success with helming PITCH PERFECT 2.
Written by Victoria Aveyard, RED QUEEN is the sweeping story of a common girl who lives in a world with a caste system that is based on blood. It’s a hierarchy where commoners are red blooded and serve the silver blooded elite, who are gifted with superhuman abilities. The protagonist is a Red, who scrapes by as a thief in a poor, rural village, until a twist of fate throws her in front of the Silver court. Before the king, princes, and all the nobles, she discovers she has an ability of her own, and her once latent magical power draws her into the dangerous intrigue of the king’s palace.

BRADLEY COOPER TO
PRODUCE 'HYPERION' SF SERIES
Speaking of adaptations, Bradley Cooper has joined the effort to turn famous sf novel HYPERION into sf series at SyFy. He will executive produce the mini series on the famous Dan Simmons Hugo Award winning novel set on the eve of Armageddon with the entire galaxy at war. It is the story of seven pilgrims who set forth on a voyage to seek the answers to the unsolved riddles of their lives. Each carries a desperate hope and a terrible secret — while one may hold the fate of humanity in his hands. As I've told you before SyFy is also preparing Arthur C. Clarke’s epic mini-series 'Childhood’s End'!

  2. I've seen Red Queen around quite a bit, but it just got bumped up in my TBR list. Sounds like both books will translate well to the screen!

  3. I became a big Elizabeth Banks fan from the Pitch Perfect movies and enjoyed her in The Hunger Games. Red Queen does not sound like my style but I hope it's a success for her!

  6. It's interesting that Bradley Cooper is jumping on board for that SyFy show. Looks like he wants to get more skin in the game, spreading his wings beyond acting. Hopefully the show will take off well. I like him.

Upon looking at the poster for Red Queen, I thought it was maybe some kind of horror film (I haven't read the book...didn't know this was adapted from a novel; oh and how in the world did you get a gig translating that book? That sounds so cool!) but after reading your post I'm curious about the movie even though I still don't know what genre it falls in. The storyline works for making me want to see it. I'd likely watch the film before reading the book though. The poster loos kinda wicked, yet, I like the design...it conveys just enough information to give viewers an idea of what it's about :)

  7. I'm intrigued by The Red Queen. I am going to have to add it to my summer reading list.

I did end up cleaning out my closet last week. In an effort to read some of the books I have piling up, I pulled the Twilight books that have been sitting there for 4 years. I am 1/2 way through the first, and am finding it dreadfully boring. I am debating continuing the series after I finish the first. I am not seeing the appeal of why it was so popular!

    1. it has three parts so be ready to commit yourself :) Although, the second and the third part aren't out yet :)

Dezzy's advice is to use Twilight as toilet paper, dear :)

    2. I think the book could have been cut in half if she stopped mentioning how beautiful the damn vampire was. I swear, most of the book is about how beautiful and sparkling he is. I think I'd take the scary, gory vampires from The Lost Boys in the 80's over a sparkling vampire any day :(

    3. the sparkly beautiful one? :) At least the vampire ain't spreading his blood on her kagina to heal her after serious hammering like in TRUE BLOOD lol.....

    4. well, how could you not? :)

  8. Red Queen looks interesting. Hyperion I haven't seen before. It does sound like one of those sweeping stories with numerous characters and arcs. I enjoy those.

  11. The Red Queen sounds like it will become a success in the big screen. I just finished reading a translated bestseller and I am amazed how writers are able to capture the essence of each dialogue because there are just words that may not sound as funny or sad when translated. Congrats on the book projects, Dezzy.
