1ST 'BIRKEBEINERNE' POSTERS
FROM 13TH CENTURY EPIC MOVIE
The only thing I have for you this boring summer weekend are the stunning first posters announcing Norwegian historical epic BIRKE- BEINERNE which should bring snowstorms into Scandinavian cinemas next February! Starring Jakob Oftebro (KON TIKI) and Kristofer Hivju (GAME OF THRONES) with Pål Sverre Hagen and Thorbjørn Harr, and set at the beginning of the 13th century this epic adventure brings the story of the greatest flight which changed Norwegian history forever.
DEZZY'S HISTORY LESSON
Birkebeinerne was the name for a rebellious party in Norway, formed in 1174 around the pretender to the Norwegian throne, Eystein Meyla. The name comes from the fact that the rebels were so poor that they made their shoes of birch bark. BIRKE- BEINERNE movie will tell the story they're most famous for: they escorted the two-year-old Haakon Haakonsson, an heir to the Norwegian throne (the secret son of the dying king whom half of the kingdom wants to kill and two men are trying to protect), to safety from Østerdalen to Trondheim, a long and perilous journey through treacherous snowy mountains and forests. Haakon IV later on became the longest ruling king of Norway with 46 year long rule known as their Golden Age!

Oh, I'm excited about the Birkebenerne movie! I hope there will be an English version released here. Here in Edmonton every February, there's a competitive cross-country skiing event called the Birkebeiner in commemoration of this exact event. (Lots of Scandanavians in Alberta). The skiers have to carry a pack on their backs at all times which weighs exactly the same amount as the child king.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed, it was rather expensive for Europe, about 15$ million so I hope it will have international release too and I hope for some kind of trailer soon!
Delete8% of my DNA comes from Scandinavia, I only wonder how many of my ancestors were Vikings

DeleteI saw somewhere that there's a movie called "Everest" coming out about that group of people who were killed on Mount Everest back in 1996. Seems like a gripping movie.
