BBC ORDERS 'QUACKS'
VICTORIAN COMEDY SERIES
Over in UK, BBC has ordered 6 half hour episode period series set in the 1840s titled QUACKS about four young pioneers in the daring and wild days of Victorian medicine! The comedy takes place at a time when doctors were just as likely to kill their patients as cure them, when they experimented on themselves and each other. It was an era when the O.R. — or operating theatre in British parlance — was full of spectacle and showmanship (and screw-ups). Rory Kinnear will play one of those showmen, an arrogant surgeon; Mathew Baynton is a fledgling psychiatrist; Tom Basden a hedonistic dentist turned anaesthetist and Lydia Leonard a headstrong social campaigner. Rupert Everett will guest star.

ABC has cast Medalion Rahimi to play intelligent, outspoken and practical princess Isabella in their upcoming new STILL STAR CROSSED 16th century Verona set series that picks up where William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet left off charting the treachery, palace intrigue and ill-fated romances of the Montagues and Capulets in the wake of the young lovers’ tragic fate. She joins Torrance Coombs in the cast.
SOFIA PERNAS IN 'TRANSYLVANIA'
Over at CW, Sofia Pernas has joined their historical adventure series TRANSYLVANIA replacing Amrita Acharia as Coriander, an exotic gypsy queen of the matriarchal clan that runs the fleshpots of the Old City, the haunted spot where Vlad the Impaler once killed thousands of their tribe. Set in 1880 TRANSYLVANIA centres on Victoria (Laura Brent), a headstrong young woman in search of her missing father who ventures from NYC to Transylvania where she teams up with a wrongfully disgraced Scotland Yard Detective (Luke Allen-Gale), and together they witness the births of the most famous monsters and villains in history.
Can´t wait for "Quacks", I´m in dire need of some good laughs! Btw, "pernas" means "legs" in Portuguese... "nomen ist omen", indeed...! Cheers, Dez!! :D
ReplyDeleteit truly is in her case :)
DeleteIt sounds nice!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, thanks for your comment on my blog, and yes, as I already said on my newest post, that bag is a fake leather, is made of a synthetic leather, which means that leather is not made of a real crocodile! - "Starting today with this beautiful Crocodile PU Leather chain strap bag (yes, it's fake leather)..." :)
glad to hear it, dear, we don't like animals killed for fashion or food :)
DeleteI love Stephen Fry! I'll watch for that new NBC sitcom.
ReplyDeletehe is ever so great!
DeleteI like the look of Quacks. Those Victorians did some wacky things with medicine and a comedy about it ought to be hilarious.
ReplyDeleteDahlink, you is like honey to painters. Eventually they all come visit you and fall in love just like me :)
Quacks should be uber fun, especially since it is on BBC 2 so it won't be overly rude :)
DeleteI don't have too many painters around, dear, just you, Franzie, Philie. Vincent visits only at Facebook and Doc too from Australia. And sometimes we have a visit from Simon as well.
RMacedo is a painter dahlink. And you is the only non painter any of these people will speak to. These guys never read non hobby related blogs.
Delete'Tis sunny out today so I shall go out and pull weeds and hang up more of my little solar fairy lights.
RMacedo came by recently, visits us sometimes, a very nice gent!
DeleteSound lovely, hope your garden won't be surprised by a sudden freeze this early spring.
We had a freeze two nights ago and everything took it. I was very pleased as I've already seedlings coming up. Hundreds of them!!
DeleteHope it stays that way, because fruit trees have started blossoming too here.
DeleteOur hyacinths, daffodils and violets are in full bloom and first tulips are opening as well.
Haven't got into the Freeform sitcoms. I like a couple of their dramas, though.
ReplyDeleteI adore their Wednesday sitcom evening hour with BABY DADDY and YOUNG AND HUNGRY. It is exquisitely relaxing and fun
DeleteQuacks sounds a little scary and hilarious. I haven't watched anything on Freeform in a long time. Is that what Shadowhunters is on? I gave that one 2 episodes before calling it quits.
ReplyDeleteyes, I didn't even try, the trailers looked so godawful I think I even puked a bit.... the acting is just shocking.
DeleteI really liked the books, so I wanted to like the series. The movie was good with Lilly Collins, but the show was 2 thumbs down. I felt like they changed the characters too much from the books as well. If it fails, I won't be surprised.
Deletefails? It has been renewed last week :)
DeleteMust be a bunch of morons keeping it on the air. It was seriously terrible.
DeleteI know, I cringed watching the trailer and the godawful redhead in it and the guys with make up on their eyes....
DeleteQuacks' premise has me laughing already. Hopefully CW does Transylvania justice. They have some really good shows but there is always one sucky new show that deserves an immediate cut (and thankfully it usually is gutted pretty quickly).
ReplyDeletetrue, I'm waiting to see how their CONTAINMENT will look like in a month or so. And I'm waiting for the return of REIGN as well
DeleteQuacks, such a scary period to be living with an illness. Quite a funny idea though.
ReplyDeleteshould be fun for those who aren't their patients
DeleteHello, Medalion and Sofia.
ReplyDeletewhat medalion? Did it disappear somewhere? Where? Do you think?
DeleteYou know where...
Deletewhy, I've no idea
DeleteI do like some Stephen Fry shenanigans!
ReplyDeletehe does know how to poke fun
DeleteI'm very interested in Still Star Crossed! And I hate that ABC Family changed their name to Freeform. I can't get used to it. Lol
ReplyDeleteIt is a very strange name change. It is also interesting that almost all of the leading faces in STILL STAR CROSSED will be black people.
DeleteQuacks appeals to me the most. I enjoy British comedy. Thank goodness for modern medicine.
ReplyDeleteamen to that
DeleteI look forward to watching Stephen Fry in a series. He's always fun to see.
ReplyDeletehe is such a delight
