Earlier this year your trusted HOLLYWOOD SPY has told you that Her Cinematic Majesty Judi Dench might join Benedict Cumberbatch in the second run of BBC's historical saga THE HOLLOW CROWN which adapts Shakespeare's plays on famous English kings, and now it is official: Judi is in the cast which she joined together with Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins and Tom Sturridge. These Shakespeare adaptations (which had Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Irons, James Purefoy, Ben Whishaw in the first run) will now be called HOLLOW CROWN: THE WARS OF THE ROSES, three TV movies consisting of Henry VI parts 1 and 2 and Richard III! Benedict Cumberbatch will play RICHARD III with Judi Dench as Cecily Duchess of York, Sophie Okonedo as Queen Margaret and Keeley Hawes as Queen Elizabeth! In HENRY VI parts 1 and 2 Hugh Bonneville will play Humphrey, the Duke of Gloucester with Sally Hawkins as his wife Eleanor, and Tom Sturridge in an unknown role.
THE DOVEKEEPERS EPIC SERIES
CASTS RACHEL BROSNAHAN
Staying in the historical genre, Rachel Brosnahan will play the lead role in CBS historical series THE DOVEKEEPERS! Based on Alice Hoffman’s novel about four extraordinary women whose lives intersect in a fight for survival at the siege of Masada, the series will see Brosnahan playing the lead of the four central characters, Yael, a uniquely beautiful and fearless young woman whose mother died in childbirth and whose father forever blames her for that loss. During the dangerous journey they make together through the desert, Yael has a whirlwind romance that will haunt her life even after they arrive at Masada. Yet, Yael is able to find comfort from her supportive warrior brother, Amram (Diego Boneta), and kinship from her fellow dovekeeper, Shirah (Cote de Pablo), as the two women fight for survival in a crumbling world.

'OUTCAST' EPIC TRAILER
NICHOLAS CAGE AND HAYDEN CHRISTENSEN IN ANCIENT CHINA
And I also have an epic trailer for you: the first one for 12th century adventure OUTCAST with Nicolas Cage and Hayden Christensen. Arriving to theatres next February, the film is set in Ancient China where Princess Lian and her younger brother, Zhao, flee for their lives when their father, the Emperor, is murdered by his ambitious eldest son Shing. Pursued by Shing's black guards, the royal runaways find protection in the form of Arken, a hardened knight seeking redemption from the traumatic nightmares of the Crusades as he searches for his former friend and mentor, Gallain, now a notorious bandit on the silk road. Their gruelling journey sees an unlikely romance bloom between the refined princess and the gruff warrior and Zhao learns the true meaning of leadership from this western warrior. Setting aside their differences, Arken and Gallain once again fight side by side in an epic and unwinnable battle against Shing and his forces - only this time they are fighting for something they both believe in.Check out Hayden sporting the hottest of hairdos and Cage the most hilarious of British accents.
I would like to see the Dovekeepers. I think I mentioned before, that I had been to Mesada. Is the movie going to be made on location? ( I guess that would be a little tough, since most of it is in ruins.)
ReplyDeleteit's not a movie but a TV series at CBS :)
DeleteAlways enjoy watching Judi Dench perform. Nicholas Cage always puts his own personal spin on things. The Dovekeepers sounds interesting.
ReplyDeleteand don't know which time is it now that Judi (bows immediatelly) plays a royal woman :)
DeleteOoooo Hollow Crown is on my list. Anything with Judi in it is a must see.
ReplyDeleteYa, you're right about Cage's British accent. It's tragic. I can just about hear the entire UK groaning over the horror of it all.
Dahlink, I'm still busy finishing up my last two entries for a painting contest. I'll most likely not post again till early September.
I'm only concerned that HOLLOW CROWN will be difficult to follow, as I didn't manage to finish the first run, it was too hard to follow original Shakespeare's lines...
DeleteHave fun, dear, I know how much you enjoy your painting :) I have to tell you that I've been obsessed with your countryman Donal Skehan, can you tell him about me :) Nom nom nom....
Wonderful stuff today, Dezzy. Love the Hollow Crown series. Amazing cast for the second round too. And Alice Hoffman is one of my favorite authors. The Dovekeepers is on my TBR list of novels to read next. :)
ReplyDeleteI just knew I'd lure you out of your cave with some Shaky Willz :)
DeleteI know, I've been bad. I'm working on a final revision, a query letter, and a synopsis. It's like month nine of a pregnancy. :P
Deletehope we won't need diapers after the birth :)
DeleteKeenly looking forward to The Hollow Crown II -- especially BC in Richard III. So sue me, I didn't feel like typing out his long name!
ReplyDeleteI usually call him Cucumberpatch which is even longer :)
DeleteThe THE HOLLOW CROWN sounds positively marvelous!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't get through the first circle of movies in it two years ago, because they use original Shakespeare's verses and lines. But the acting was great.
DeleteAh... my favorite British actress...
ReplyDelete99... you know what to do.
Who? Sally Hawkins? :))
DeleteFunny... as always.
Deletebut of course...
DeleteDo you know the only time I ever see the name Benedict Cumberbatch is on your blog? If I ever see him in something else, I'd say, "That's the guy who's always on Dezz's blog!!!"
ReplyDeleteand I don't even like him, personally :)
DeleteI love Judi Dench.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of Rachel, but she looks lovely in that green dress.
I've never heard of her before either :) and it's the only nice pic I could find of her :)
DeletePretty much everything Judi Dench does turns to gold.
ReplyDeleteso very true. She is King Midas :)
DeleteThe Dovekeepers sounds like a good one! Not one my hubs will like, so this one would be all for my enjoyment.
ReplyDeletethat and THE RED TENT series too :) Two historical series focused on women
DeleteI kinda forgot until now that Hayden Christensen was in star wars
ReplyDeleteit's good to forget :) both his and Natalie Unimportant's horrid acting in that trashy movie... I think that Ewan McGregor didn't need to appear next to those two amateurs....
DeleteTrailer looks good. Unwinnable? That's discouraging.
ReplyDeleteand a new word too :)
DeleteOutcast looks great
ReplyDeleteagreed, looks wonderfully trashy and we like that :)
DeleteWhy, or why does Nicholas Cage still get roles? Other than him, the movie looks pretty good to me.
ReplyDeletethat is one of the biggest mysteries, Pat. Why is Miley a music star? Why does TWILIGHT exist and sell? Why did Gwyneth and Halle get Oscars? Those are the greatest mysteries of our times...
DeleteI'm looking forward to this movie! Cage is maeby not my favorite actor, but the story looks good! And I can't help it but my youngest son collect all movies with Cage! So he will be happy with this! ;-)
ReplyDeleteGreetings
Peter
he is not anyone's fave actor :) But we do like the feel of this movie
