HOLLYWOOD SPY SPOTLIGHT ON BBC'S LUXURIOUS NEW MEDIEVAL SERIES "WHITE QUEEN" WITH MAX IRONS, DAVID OAKES, JAMES FRAIN, JANET MCTEER, REBECCA FERGUSON, ANEURIN BARNARD

Just a week or so ago, your HOLLYWOOD SPY informed you that after the huge success of their THE HOLLOW CROWN series earlier this summer with Tom Hiddleston, Patrick Stewart, Ben Whishaw and Jeremy Irons, BBC has set their eye on another medieval project - WOLF HALL, which will be set in the 1520s with England facing civil war if Henry VIII dies without a male heir. And now I already have a new epic treat for you: BBC is preparing another period set television series - WHITE QUEEN. The War of the Roses set ten-part drama is going to be based on Phillipa Gregory's bestselling novel series "The Cousin's War".

WHITE QUEEN TIDBITS
The series follows a group of women who find themselves caught up in the race for the throne. The women work behind the scenes, scheming ruthlessly to help their lovers, and their children, and will stop at nothing to gain - or keep - the throne. With the nation at war for the past nine years over the rightful King of England, the two sides of the same family - The House of York and The House of Lancaster - are also facing their own battle. Young Max Irons will play the House of York's Edward IV, who is crowned the King of England thanks to Lord Warwick (James Frain from THE TUDORS). However, Warwick's plans are altered after the King falls in love with a widowed Lancastrian commoner with two
children Elizabeth Woodville (Swedish top model Rebecca Ferguson). Academy Award nominee Janet McTeer plays Elizabeth's sorceress mother Jacquetta, who uses her magical powers to help her
daughter capture the king's heart, while Amanda Hale will portray the Queen's rival Margaret Beaufort. Faye Marsay and Eleanor Tomlinson will portray Anne and Isabel Neville, daughters of Lord Warwick, the so-called Kingmaker, while Aneurin Bernard features as Richard, Duke of York. THE BORGIAS star David Oakes will put a medieval costume on himself again playing George, Duke of Clarence, and Tom McKay will portray Jasper Tudor. Juliet Aubrey, Frances Tomelty, Michael Maloney, Ben Lamb, Hugh Mitchell, Simon Ginty, Eve Ponsonby and Robert Pugh will also appear in the drama.
WHITE QUEEN STORY
The year is 1464 and England has been at war for nine years battling over who is the rightful King of England – it is a war between two sides of the same family, The House of York and The House of Lancaster. The House of York’s young and devilishly handsome Edward IV (Max Irons) is crowned King of England with the help of the master manipulator Lord Warwick “The Kingmaker” (James Frain). But when Edward falls in love and secretly marries a beautiful young widow, the commoner Elizabeth Woodville (Rebecca Ferguson) Warwick’s plan for control over the English throne comes
crashing down around him. Frustrated by the new Queen’s influence he will stop at nothing to maintain his grip on the King. The most beautiful woman in the land, Elizabeth Woodville marries for the love of her King,
with the help of her mother Jacquetta (Janet McTeer) a self proclaimed sorceress. Elizabeth’s most fierce adversary is the staunchly loyal Lancastrian Margaret Beaufort (Amanda Hale) – a damaged and highly religious woman who would willingly lay down her life to see her young son Henry Tudor take the throne. And then there is Anne Neville (Faye Marsay), Lord Warwick The Kingmaker’s daughter - a pawn in her father’s battle for control, who finds her strength and ambition when she takes control of her destiny and marries the King’s younger brother Richard Duke of York (Aneurin Bernard).

  1. This sounds so exiting. I loved Gregory's novel and can't wait to how this turns out.

I always love your spotlights and the images you get. Superb as always, sweetie. :)

    1. glad you liked it, Melsy. I was very excited, as always when it comes to epic series, when I saw the recently released news on the production from BBC :) I immediately knew I'd spotlight it.

  2. I kind of think David Oakes would have made a great Richard III, since in my mind he plays a very good bad guy. He sort of scares me after Pillars of the Earth. :P

Also, I think it's hilarious that all these Plantagenets and Tudors are getting such sexy historical makeovers with all these new mini-series. But it's good stuff to watch.

I love David Oakes and his fans are huge fans of HOLLYWOOD SPY too :) I think he even read our site a couple of times himself :) He should've gotten a bigger role in WHITE QUEEN, that's true.

  3. I'll definitely want to see this one, the costuming alone will be worth it. Ferguson has such a classic beauty, I love looking at her.

I'm going to have to pick up the Hollow Crown series too. Looks good and The Spawn is mad about Hiddleston.

I'm getting ready to do the cloak on your figure and I'm going to be adding some gold scroll work painted in gold. It will post as a work in progress on Wednesday. I still have detail highlighting to do and that's extensive on this piece and the face won't be complete on Wednesday either. I do the faces as the very last thing on all my figures.

    1. Yep, she's pretty, although I think I like that Eleanor lass more :) I'm not sure why they cast Max Irons, he gave such a shockingly horrid performance in RED RIDING HOOD, I was truly shocked that someone can be so perdy and yet so empty of talent :(

I'm planning on watching THE HOLLOW CROWN as soon as I finish DOWNTON ABBEY, which I didn't like that much so far, it's rather boring.

Ooh, darling, don't publish it before you finish it :) I want me to shine in whole glory :))))And remember - no make up on my eyes and lips :) and make me posh white :)

  4. Darling, I will only be showing the back of the cape that has the scrollwork. I have to have input on that from experts or I'll never grow as a painter. You're complexion will be glorious and your hair will be blonde. Your cape is red however as the white just didn't work. I had to put the entire miniature in solvent, strip it and start from scratch.

And I see you're following my Greek, Thanos. He's a sweet man I tell you. Such a gentleman and treats me like a lady. And he's good looking too. No I don't flirt with him, I just appreciate him as a person. He has a girlfriend that I think he is going to be marrying.

I did follow him, but he didn't follow back and didn't comment over here, so I forgot about him. But I do remember he had nice comments at our posts at your place.

  18. Hi, there -

Thanks for the info on the White Queen! As a passionate Ricardian, I am hoping this will be on Canadian TV sooner rather than later!

(BTW, fyi, Richard was Duke of Gloucester, not Duke of York before he became King Richard III. It was his father, also called Richard, before his death in 1461, who was Duke of York - and also later on, Richard Gloucester's little nephew, another Richard, became Duke of York. He was one of the "Princes in the Tower" as they are often called. Clear as mud, I hope! :-))

    1. be welcome, hope it will be a good show!
When it comes to the Duke thing, this is the official plot from the studios, so if there's a mistake, it's not ours :)
