'TE ATA' TRAILER AND POSTER
BASED ON A TRUE STORY
Nathan Frankowski directed the movie |
In the movie which is out in selected theatres this October,
Q'orianka Kilcher plays Te Ata, (Mary Thompson Fisher), a woman who
traversed cultural barriers to become one of the greatest Native
American performers of all time. Born in Indian Territory and raised on
the songs and stories of her Chickasaw culture, Te Ata’s journey to find
her true calling led her through isolation, discovery, love and a stage
career that culminated in performances for a United States president,
European royalty and audiences across the world. Yet of all the stories
she shared, none are more inspiring than her own.
Graham Greene, Mackenzie Astin also star in the movie |
I'm always somewhat leery of these movies. It seems like they can't seem to make them without relying on stereotypes, and ignoring the truth. I hope this one is different. Thanks for the heads up DEZ. I'm not even sure if it's my type of movie, but I'll check it out.
ReplyDeleteHollywood has always been based on stereotypes of all kinds, sadly
DeleteI am inclined to agree with Pat. Hollywood hardly ever sticks to the facts, but has to gussy it up to appeal to a wider audience. I do think it will be worth a watch, but I think a lot of it will have to be taken with a grain of salt as far as her story goes.
ReplyDeletewe shall ask our Native American friends what they think and how they see it!
DeleteIt reminds of Pocahontas. I'm interested to learn more about the Native Americans' histories..in a fun way.
ReplyDeletehope it is realistic
