Here's another book which has been sold for movie adaptation before its official release: BEFORE I GO TO SLEEP, the novel
from a charming young British scientist Steve Watson, will be made into a movie directed by Rowan Joffe, produced by Ridley and Tony Scott, and will possibly star Cate Blanchett or Kate Winslet. The novel tells the story of a woman who wakes up to discover that rather than being young, free and single she's married to the stranger next to her in bed and her body has aged beyond recognition. She then realizes she is suffering from an amnesia and her memory has only a 24 hour span. 12 publishers have lead a war for this novel, and I can also reveal that your dear
Dezz is currently translating BEFORE I GO TO SLEEP for the readers in Serbia :))
So, it's official, visual genius Tarsem Singh (THE FALL, THE CELL, IMMORTALS) will direct Relativity Media's SNOW WHITE film. Rivaling Universal's SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN, this film will be more close to the traditional story in which Snow White bands together with a gang of seven quarrelsome dwarves to reclaim what is rightly hers after her evil stepmother kills her father and destroys the kingdom.
Check out the cool character posters for THE WARRIOR'S WAY featuring Kate Bosworth, Geoffrey Rush, Danny Huston and Dong-gun Jang. Coming out this December, this will be a visually-stunning modern martial arts western in which the Korean actor Dong-gun Jang plays an Asian warrior assassin forced to hide in a small town in the American Badlands.
Here's an interesting cast: Orlando Bloom, Saoirse Ronan, Emma Thompson and Imelda Staunton will star in the period drama EFFIE about Effie Gray, the wife of English art critic John Ruskin, who became entangled in a famous Victorian love triangle. Without consummating the relationship, Effie Gray left her husband, had the marriage annulled, and married John Ruskin's protégé John Everett Millais, the famous painter.
Before I Go to Sleep sounds like a story idea with potential. Kind of like Momento.
ReplyDeleteIn the Snow White movie I wonder if the Dwarves will really be dwarves or regular actors shortened with special effects?
Lee
Tossing It Out
Yep, and another interesting thing about BEFORE I GO TO SLEEP is that it was written in the first person, so it's very unusual as there is a lot of present tense in first person. Kinda like following a camera.
ReplyDeleteprobably shortened with some effects like in Jackson's THE HOBBIT :)
Dezmond,
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to let you know how much I admired anyone who is fluent in 2 languages. All I can think is that it must be so time-consuming to translate an entire novel!
Cate & Kate -- always the question but they both could do justice to such a part.
Am curious to see Effie when it comes out. I'm going to guess that Orlando plays Millais? :)
hey, Lisa, thanks for admiring me :)) I'm fluent in more than two languages :) But I must keep it a secret, the world must not know the secret abilities of this spy ;)
ReplyDeleteIt takes around a 1.5 to 2 months to translate a novel.
I'm not sure, but, yes, I'm also guessing Orly will be Millais (who is by the way one of my fav painters :))
I see you're really exciting with The Warrior's Way buddy :)
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine how the Snow White will be in the hands of Tarsem Singh.
I'm not, Jaccsy, probably won't even watch it, but the posters are cool :) Rush is especially naughty in the poster :)
ReplyDeleteWow! Before I go to sleep sounds fantastic! :o) I vote for Kate. She'd play the role perfectly, in my opinion!
ReplyDeleteDrop by and enter my CELEBRATE THE LITTLE THINGS GIVEAWAY!
oh, I adore the C/Kates! That little voting thingie on the side there was MUCH to difficult a choice... All great actresses. :o)
ReplyDeleteAnd Effie sounds fun~ ;p
Wow Dezz, you are full of surprises! I look forward to "The Warrior's Way". Tough call on the other movie... I like both actresses, they both are gifted in bringing their characters to life. I wouldn't be able to decide, unless I read the book and had insight to the author's
ReplyDeletevision. mmh, another book on the wish list!~
Cool posters! And I'm pulling for Kate Winslet.
ReplyDeletewarriors way looks interesting.
ReplyDeleteCate Blanchett is amazing. I love her and her movies. I can't wait !
ReplyDelete@Jessica
ReplyDeletehey, Jessica, welcome to HOLLYWOOD SPY. Kate would be great as always ;)
@Leigh
the poll was meant to be the most difficult one ever :)
@Ella
yep, I also think we should first read the book before deciding whom we like better in the lead role - Cate or Kate :)
@Alex
ReplyDeleteyes, we know, you're always pulling for Kate this one or the other one.
@Budd
glad you like it
@Trin
she really is the most amazing!
Before I Go To Sleep sounds excellent....
ReplyDeleteI hope they go with Winslet.
This one sounds like it could be either a horror movie, a thriller, or a tear-jerking drama.
Before I go to Sleep sounds great...also a bit like 40 first dates.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the pics for Warrior's Way.
Either Cate or Kate would be great. They are both talented and beautiful. I am not sure which one I like best....
ReplyDeleteThe Warrior's Way might be alright. I love the Badlands, I posted photos of the Badlands awhile back on my blog from a previous vacation. There have been numerous movies shot there, which is odd because it is in the middle of nowhere. No restaurants, shops, nothing much.
Yummy! I love that photo of Orlando! You must have thought of me when you chose that photo.
Oooh, the battle of the great C/Kates... well, I think both of them will do well in the role, though of course my preference goes to Cate :)
ReplyDeleteI just saw the Warrior's Way trailer, never heard of this before but I'm kinda intrigued now. The posters look pretty good.
@Andrew
ReplyDeletethey say it's a psychological thriller :)
@Lynda
yep, it has the similar element to 50 FIRST DATES, but this one was written by a real scientist.
@Avalon
Badlands sounds interesting :) I knew you would love that pic of Orly :)
@Flixy
yes, I believe you know which one I would choose, but I can't say it myself since the poll is on with both of them :)
I think I would like to see Kate Winslet in the part even though I'm a fan of Blanchett too.
ReplyDeleteThe Warriors Way doesn't really sound my sort of thing, but have been wrong before. Posters are definately cool.
yep, Dempsy, Winslet could tackle pretty much any role possible, just like Blanchett.
ReplyDeleteeffie sounds really interesting
ReplyDeleteand before i go to sleep sounds like it could be an excellent read.
my sister has seizures, and when they are over sometimes she suffers from temporary amnesia- going back to '97. it's really terrifying for her... and so sad for her daughter who was born in '04 that mommy doesn't know who she is... i truly hope the book does justice to the emotional toll that amnesia has on everyone involved.
Both seem awesome. I'm more into Effie though b/c Orlando just does it for me . .
ReplyDelete......dhole
The Warrior's Way posters look great! Last weekend I saw the trailer in 3D before Saw 3D and thought it looks fantastic. The first time I saw the trailer in a 2D, I was slightly interested but now I am really looking forward to it. Good action and good story.
ReplyDeleteHi everyone - WOW! I'm so happy that everyone's excited about Before I Go to Sleep... I wrote the novel, and let me be perfectly honest and say even I can't say whether I'd prefer Kate or Cate in the role...
ReplyDelete@aspiring_x - I'm so sorry to hear about your sister's seizures. I really hope my book does justice to her condition, and those of people like her. I tried to make it so that it didn't trivialise such a terrible condition, but ultimately that's for the reader to decide.
@Andrew Green - I'm hoping it's all three.....!

Warrior's Way looks pretty silly, but suitably epic :) For eastern vs. western, the only thing they've got to compete with is Shanghai noon, so I've got hope for it, hehe.
ReplyDelete@Vics
ReplyDeleteyes, the book sounds amazing, I'm happy I'm translating it for Serbian readers. The story about your sister sounds difficult. She must be a brave person.
@Donna
hey, Donna, welcome to HOLLYWOOD SPY :)
@Geof
glad you like it :) Tell us how it was after you go and see it.
@Jamie
it's not a big competition :)
@S.J. Watson
ReplyDeletehey, S.J. thanks for dropping by HOLLYWOOD SPY ;) I hope you liked my post on your book and its film adaptation. I truly wish the producers will get one of those two amazing actresses. They are both the biggest talents in the film world.
And I hope I will do justice to your book with my translation for the readers in Serbia :)
DEZMOND - Hey superstar! Love Kate and Cate. They're both such great actors. The novel does sound interesting - different.
ReplyDeleteStill hoping The Warrior's Way ends happily. :D
I'm a superstar? :))) Yep all three of them - Cate, Kate and the novel are amazing :)
ReplyDeleteDezz - In my book - Y.E.S. =D
ReplyDeletewhy, thank you, Shellsy dearest :) /blinksshyly/
ReplyDeleteThis was such a great read! I couldn't put the book down and even more so towards the end. It blew me away! Actually had me on the edge of my seat. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone!
