BEN CHAPLIN IN
'WIPER TIMES" WW1 SERIES
Since we're having a dry week when it comes to Tinseltown news, just like yesterday we shall focus on some of the upcoming British projects. I already wrote about BBC preparing new historical mini series THE WIPERS TIMES. It will be set in the backdrop of the World War One and now we know that the cast will include Ben Chaplin, Emilia Fox, Michael Palin and Julian Rhind Tutt. Described as a story of the extraordinary resilience of the human spirit in the face of overwhelming adversity, the mini series will follow two soldiers who created a satirical magazine that was published in the trenches during World War I! Ben Chaplin plays Captain Fred Roberts who discovered a printing press in the ruins of Ypres, Belgium in 1916 and began publishing the blackly comic WIPERS TIMES for troops on the Western Front. Ben Chaplin has had great roles on TV recently from MAD DOGS to WORLD WITHOUT END.
ERIC MABIUS IN
'DEAD LETTERS' NEW SHOW
And here's an interesting piece of television news: "The Hollywood Reporter" writes that Hallmark Channel has in mind a new scripted series: titled DEAD LETTERS it will first air in October as a TV movie and it will then be decided whether it will be produced further on into a show. Charming Eric Mabius from UGLY BETTY will head the cast in the story of a group of postal detectives whose mission is to deliver letters and packages from the past - which (naturally) arrive when they're needed the most. Mabius will play Oliver, leader of the group, while Kristin Booth will appear as Shane, the newest member of the DEAD LETTER Office. The script has been penned by TOUCH BY AN ANGEL writer.

THE BOXTROLLS TRAILER
TONI COLLETTE & BEN KINGSLEY
Here's a delightful trailer for the new film coming from the creators of CORALINE and PARANORMAN. New stop motion animation THE BOXTROLLS will open up in cinemas later this September. With Ben Kingsley and Toni Collette leading the voice cast this 3D animated adventure is based on Alan Snow's novel in which the story follows a group of monsters who live underneath the idyllic town of Cheesebridge. While the townsfolk think they come out at night to steal their beloved children and cheese, they aren't actually dangerous at all, trying to raise an orphaned human named Eggs. When The Boxtrolls are targeted by a villainous exterminator who is bent on eradicating them, Eggs must venture above ground to save them, where he teams with an adventurous young girl to save not only The Boxtrolls but the soul of Cheesebridge.movie
Mr. Chaplin should put on some horns and play the devil. He's a dead ringer!
ReplyDeleteLOL, he's a very nice chap, I think he had that goatee for one of the roles...
Deletei want to see boxtrolls,it sounds fun... well for the eggs... video for me was blocked.. will track down something. oh happy day!
ReplyDeleteAh, for once you in USA get blocked :) It happens often to us outside USA with videos and trailers :) The trailer still works but not for USA.
DeletePS I've added a new one which you should be able to see in USA too
Deletethank you for the upgrade... i am in cause some-days we need a friend and sometimes those are boxes and sometimes they come in rectangles.
DeleteYep, you can't really live outside the box, especially if you are a cat....
DeleteThe Dead Letters project has the potential to be a feel-good show.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love that poster for the Boxtrolls. Adorable. But the video already went down for me. Couldn't see it. :(
yep, I like such heartwarming shows, especially with Mabius... we do like him heaps... hope he goes shirtless while carrying out the dead letters :)
DeleteIt seems the video is blocked in USA :)
PS I've added a new one which you should be able to see in USA too
DeleteBoxtrolls looks cute. I like how it shows ALL families in the trailer.
ReplyDeleteit's delightful, isn't it?
DeleteBen Chaplin is an interesting actor to watch. I'll be sure to take a look at Wiper Times. What a hoot that title is, and I love that this is set in WWI
ReplyDeleteWon't miss Boxtrolls either. Love the Kingsley voice.
he is, it was really interesting watching him recently as a gay king in WORLD WITHOUT END.
DeleteBOXTROLLS should be super fun :)
never heard of the original novel
ReplyDeletewhich original novel?
Delete"The Wipers Times" sounds worthwhile. I wonder if Ben Chaplin is descended from Charlie Chaplin, perhaps through his actress daughter Geraldine Chaplin? Do you know, Dezzy?
ReplyDeleteI don't think so, Debs. Chaplin's granddaugher Una recently starred in GAME OF THRONES where they slaughtered her all pregnant in the final episode :( Horrid.
DeleteThe Wipers Times will be excellent I think. Life in those trenches was hell and what these guys did is so very British. And it will be nice to see Pailin at work again.
ReplyDeleteBoxtrolls will be a fun one. The idea of benevolent monsters living underneath a town is a fun one. And I'm guessing they are a damn sight nicer than some of those humans who live above ground.
Yes, I think that all of the soldiers in the trenches never actually expected ever to leave them alive. So a bit of humour was probably the only thing they had to cheer themselves up.
DeleteAnd don't forget that the Boxtrolls steal stinky cheese LOL
I want to see the Boxtrolls; it looks adorable :)
ReplyDeletetotally adorable :)
DeleteMan oh man...that Boxtrolls trailer sure smells like Tim Burton!!!
ReplyDeleteLooks awesome!
Did you like Frankenweenie????
Cheers!
Linda :o)
It's delightful, isn't it? :)
DeleteNo, I haven't seen Frankenweenie, kinda too morbid for my taste, but it did look cute at moments :)
I didn't like Coraline the Movie. I thought the book was much better. Maybe Boxtrolls will sit more comfortable with me?
ReplyDeletefingers crossed!
DeleteHmm, dead letters sound kinda interesting; but I'd have to watch the pilot to know if it is worth watching as a series. I've been disappointed after many pilots.
ReplyDeleteI've watched Falling Skies for several years, but this season, its too complex, and the new season seems to have skipped several years between last episode and first in the new season. I'm not impressed. Being Human took on the same skipped story-line and I lost interest.
On an unrelated note: my 15 year old son just came in and had me check out a couple music videos he discovered. What do you think of the group Imagine Dragons? I watched several videos, and got this I-like-it-but . . vibe. A little depressing; or maybe its just me . .

I kinda have the same feeling as you about Imagine Dragons.... you can just imagine dragons with them not really see them or feel them LOL
DeleteI missed the first season of FALLING SKIES a few years ago and never caught up later on, and this summer I'm watching UNDER THE DOME and THE WHITE QUEEN :)
I really must see The White Queen!
Delete......dhole
it starts in USA in August on Starz. I'm watching it through Torrents since it already started airing on BBC in UK
