Hugh Laurie in a less grumpy and cynical role than usual? Why not, it could be a pleasant change especially for those who aren't really fans of his popular show HOUSE. He will play the lead
role in the film adaptation of Lloys Jones' novel MISTER PIP which follows Mr. Watts, the last white man left on the war-torn island of Bougainville. Asked to open a school there, he reads the kids his favorite novel, "Great Expectations" and bonds with them over the book, which sheds some perspective on their own difficult lives. The film will be directed by Andrew Adamson (SHREK, CHRONICLES OF NARNIA).
SHORT HEADLINES Gorgeous Olga Kurylenko has joined Aaron Eckhart in THE EXPATRIATE, about a former CIA agent who tries to reconnect with his young daughter but
discovers that his assistant is really an assassin trying to kill him, and must go on the run with his daughter. Olga Kurylenko will play a spy and his former love who helps them escape. *British director Mike Newell is preparing a new film adaptation of GREAT EXPECTATIONS, and he apparently wants young Jeremy Irvine (from Steven Spielberg's upcoming WAR HORSE) and Helena Bonham Carter in the lead roles. As you know it's a story about a young orphan who suddenly enters the life of luxury, thanks to a mysterious lady benefactor.
Today you can also check out the first trailer for sf action RISE OF THE PLANET OF APES with James Franco, Freida Pinto and John Litgow which comes out this August. With the usage of groundbreaking special effects used before in AVATAR, the new
version of the RISE OF THE PLANET OF APES is an origin story set in present day San Francisco, a reality-based cautionary tale, a science fiction and science fact blend, where man's own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy. I must admit I found the trailer rather bad and boring, and the films doesn't seem like something which could refresh the old saga.
Wow miss Olga... that pose just looks painful! :) I haven't got a chance to see the trailer as I'm still at work... the subject matter doesn't interest me, neither is the cast.
ReplyDeleteDo we really need another Planet of the Apes?
ReplyDelete@Flixy
ReplyDeleteshe was always quite flexible! :) You aren't missing much,the trailer is stunningly boring :(
@Andrew
we really do not! :(
I love it when Helena Bonham Carter plays straight roles (or crazy ones). I just love her.
ReplyDeleteAnd, sorry, but there's something wrong with Olga. She appears to have no belly fat even when all scrunched up. That can't be right. :P
you did know that all Ukrainian girls are gymnasts and gymnasts don't have belly fat :PPP
ReplyDeleteI might go see the new Apes-Gone-Wild just because Tom Felton appears to have a small role in it. :-)
ReplyDeleteOlga's lack of belly fat is indeed stunning. Though, I keep imagining the photo shoot: "Okay, Olga, think of a rubber band. Beeeeee the rubber band..."
I've never heard of Olga before, but i starred at that picture for 5 seconds straight. I am very pleased
ReplyDeleteAnd i saw the trailer for the Ape movie already, and after seeing it i think it actually has potential. Although i think the title is needlessly long.
@LC
ReplyDeleteI've no idea who Felton is, I must check him out :) And I just knew everyone will be commenting Olga's flexibility :)
@Dirty
she played in JAMES BOND,CENTURION, and is also the star of the upcoming Chinese mega epic THE EMPIRES OF THE DEEP.
The title for APES really is horrible, just like the monotonous trailer :)
the Rise looks great! and scary.
ReplyDeleteOlga needs a monkey with her in that pic :P
I don't think another Planet of the Apes is a good prognosis for Hollywood's sick fascination with remakes, reboots, and sequels. The trailer was meh. But hey, Franco's in it. I also heard he'll be enrolling in the French Open. JK, the guy's everywhere though!
ReplyDeleteMr Pip, oooohhh yeah
ReplyDeleteInteresting trailer.
ReplyDeleteMason
Thoughts in Progress
You're so right, this trailer is very blah. I am already bored and the fact that they are releasing it August during a sure downtime is very telling. The first one with Wahlberg wasn't that great, but it was a lot more interesting than this looks. I'm more interested in The Expatriate and Great Expectations.
ReplyDeletei love Hugh in House! he was so mean, yet so adorable. XD but i won't mind seeing another version of him at all!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if we need another Planet of the Apes, but I'm all for a new James Franco movie. :)
ReplyDeleteohman, i'm such a dork- i know- but i love planet of the apes so much, i'm sure that i'll see it some time. l.c. and i can chat about it i guess! :)
ReplyDeleteand i LOVED great expectations!!! and two movies deally with it?!?! awesome!! although- i hope bonham carter doesn't just do "older bellatrix"...
Helena Bonham Carter will make an awesome Miss Havisham. She was born to play that role.
ReplyDeleteHugh Laurie must be convincing in this new role. I have no doubt about his talents, but it will be hard for us, House M.D. fans, to take him seriously if he is too kind haha Anyway I can't wait.
ReplyDeleteFor Planet of Apes, at least they are not actors with masks ^^ I think it can be interesting.
Lucinda
Stunning pic of Olga Dezzy, nicely censored ;-) (I found the real one on the interweb as I needed to see for educational purposes obviously!!
ReplyDeleteI saw that trailer yesterday for Planet of the Apes and if I am honest.....I thought it looked pretty cool actually. Maybe its my low brow ape man tendencies coming out :)
C
I'm with you on the trailer. *yawn*
ReplyDelete@Lyndy
ReplyDeleteah, I'm sure many of my boys would gladly accept the role of her monkey :)
@Matty
it true, I'm becoming afraid that he might jump out my fridge when I open it :)
@Baygirl and MAsy
glad you like it, girls!
@Melissa
ReplyDeleteyep, they thoughtTim Burton's version was bad, and made this one which looks ten times worse. I kinda like when Ape movies are set in the Ape planet not this modern thing :(
@Levian
many of my readers like him :)
@Susan
ah, I knew you wouldn't mind some Franco :)
@Vics
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Helena will do the role being her usual crazy self :))
@Debra
he he she was :)
@Lucinda
yes, it will be difficult taking him seriously
@Custard
and what did you learn on your educational trip? The secret of cosmos? The essence of life? The true identity of Mona Lisa? :))))))))))
@Samantha
yawn indeed :(
Absolutely adore Andrew Adamson, wonderful, brilliant man!
ReplyDeleteThe trailer was just ok. But that last frame and the look in that ape's eyes gave me the chills.
ReplyDelete@Avalon
ReplyDeletehe does seem like a nice man judging from the movies he makes :)
@Michael
the end did have some scary moments :) Especially the part when hundreds of apes appear in he street.
They will definitely need a more exciting trailer for Apes in order to hype up the must-see factor. Conceptually the story sounds like it could be intriguing. Hope it's not as hokey as the sequels that followed the original Planet of the Apes back in the 70s.
ReplyDeleteLee
Tossing It Out
we shall keep our fingers crossed, Lee!
ReplyDeleteI loved the original Planet of the Apes. Hope this one is good.
ReplyDeleteMister Pip has the "To Sir With Love" vibe...
ReplyDeleteNot sure about the Apes; I want another preview.
Another Great Expectations...Helena would make a great Mrs. Havisham.
I'm suprised how many people didn't like the trailer for APES. I thought it was great. Made the ages really unsettling.
ReplyDelete@MPax
ReplyDeletewe shall keep our fingers crossed!
@Ella
Helena will be super awesome :)
@Lyndy
he he ..well it is rather non dynamic, it has very bad music, it's not exciting and the only more interesting part is in its very end.
I was scoffing at the idea of another Planet of the Apes remake, but this one actually looks pretty good. Thanks for sharing the trailer, Dez!
ReplyDeleteglad you at least liked it, Eric :)
