In a very surprising and unexpected development of events, Serbian Film Academy has skipped lead candidates The Keepers of the Formula, an award winning movie, and Heroes of Halyard and picked historical drama BECAUSE MY THOUGHTS ARE STRUGGLING (ŠTO SE BORE MISLI MOJE) as the film that will represent the country in the Oscars race in the best foreign film category. The controversial selection did not reveal any criteria by

The film is currently playing in cinemas

which the film was chosen, but it is widely known, according to the shocked Serbian press and media, that the director previously directed propaganda films for Serbia's ruling dictator president and his party. 

 

  THIS FILM 

 currently playing in Serbian cinemas with not much success, from director Milorad Milinkovic,  tells the story of the period of the life of Prince Mihailo Obrenovic (Dragan Micanovic) just before and during the assassination. The film also follows the final days of Serbian Prince Mihailo Obrenovic, a man in love who struggles with a sense of duty to his people while plotting a fatal conspiracy against him that will stop the liberation of the Balkan peoples. Serbia will once again find itself at a turning point. The title itself is a line from one of Mihailo's famous poems. Check out the trailer for the movie below:

A month or so ago your trusted spy showed you the first images but now we have the first official trailer along with the airing date for LIONS OF SICILY eight episode historical drama that will arrive to Disney + October 25th based on the popular novels by Stefania Auci which have been translated in many countries around the world! This lavish costume family saga is following the story of the Florio family through many decades of the 19th century. It was directed by renowned Italian director Paolo Genovese.   THE STORY REVOLVES AROUND

 Brothers Paolo (Vinicio Marchioni) and Ignazio (Paolo Briguglia) who are two small spice merchants who have escaped from a Calabria stuck in the past and in search of social redemption. In Sicily they invent a future, turning a small, run-down shop into a flourish business activity that young Vincenzo (Michele Riondino), with his revolutionary ideas, will transform into an economic empire. However, overwhelming Vincenzo’s life and that of the entire family is the disruptive arrival of Giulia (Miriam Leone), a strong and intelligent woman who is in contrast with the rigid rules of the society of the time. A family saga filled with love, family, success, wars and revolutions, the story takes place in Sicily from 1800 until the Proclamation of the Kingdom in Italy in 1861. Also starring are Donatella Finocchiaro as Giuseppina, Eduardo Scarpetta as Ignazio Florio - Vincenzo’s son, Ester Pantano as young Giuseppina and Adele Cammarata as Giovanna D’Ondes.

In less than a month, new series will be offered at the international TV market MipCom in Cannes and the honour to open it goes this year to Prime Video's new Spanish language series ZORRO coming from Secuoya Studios and Mediawan Rights. The ten part series, set in 1834 LosAngeles, sees Miguel Bernardeau playing a new version of Diego de la Vega. As Variety reports, Bernardeau stars opposite Renata Notni as Lolita

Canary Islands, the ten episode series sees Bernardeau playing Diego de la Vega, a landowner and, in disguise, masked hero of the people. Notni takes on the role of Lolita Marquez, the love of his youth. Zorro's battle also takes in discovering who murdered his father, a personal mission which leads him to discover family secrets that will change for ever his destiny. The series will be done in the spirit of wokeness and diversity and should arrive to the small screens probably sometime in the first half of the next year. It is interesting that France is also shooting a Zorro series with Jean Dujardin in the lead role.

After the rival Sisi series over at RTL which already started work on its third season, THE EMPRESS series from German Netflix, which also follows the life of the Austrian Kaiserin, has also officially launched production as of today! The first season which saw young Bavarian countess marry Franz Joseph the emperor of Austria-Hungary, was renewed only a month after the stream start of the first season which amassed more than 160 million viewing hours since then. In the first season marital crisis has been overcome between the imperial couple, but now dark clouds gather again over Schönbrunn Palace: a powerful adversary appears on the scene in Europe. And Sisi faces pressure to produce an heir to the throne who will secure the future of the empire. She has to fight, for her family and for herself. She will also face her mother-in-law, Archduchess Sophie, who is convinced that the Empress is too young to raise the children, and takes it upon herself to bring up her children. She will also go to Hungary to settle a crises there and that is where her first daughter will sadly die. This will end Sisi's efforts to be a good mother and she will remain cold towards her offspring till the end of her life. Returning cast includes Devrim Lingnau as Elisabeth, Philip Froissant as Franz Joseph I of Austria, Melika Foroutan as Archduchess Sophie, Johannes Nussbaum as Archduke Maximilian, Elisa Schlott as Duchess Helene in Bavaria, Jördis Triebel as Princess Ludovika of Bavaria, Sisi's mutter. Exciting new additions to the cast include Josephine Thiesen as Princess Marie and Christoph Favre as Napoleon III. The second season is shooting over in Bavaria, the Czech Republic and Italy!

Beside Lions of Sicily and Leopard, another new period set series coming to us from Italy is LA STORIA, an eight part historical drama based on the famous book by Elsa Morante. The show, which will air on RAI later this year, starts on an ordinary day in 1941, when widow Ida Ramundo (Jasmine Trinca), Nino's mother and secretly of Jewish origin, is raped by a German soldier. After the pain, the dismay and the shame, Ida discovers she is pregnant and, nine months later, secretly gives birth to a baby boy who will be lovingly nicknamed Useppe. The family is turned upside down by the events of the war: Nino decides to leave for the front with the fascists, leaving his mother and little Useppe to cope with the Nazi occupation and the round-ups in a flat in Rome's San Lorenzo district. In the July 1943 bombing, Ida loses everything and is forced to evacuate. From then on, every day for her becomes a struggle for her own survival and that of her child. SEASON FOUR TRAILER IS HERE

Even though they will be missing Tristan who has gone to war, our heroes from ALL CREATURES GREAT AND SMALL will, it seems, have a brand new newbie to torture and poke fun with, at least judging by the trailer for season four which starts on Channel 5 October 5th with six brand new episode plus a festive one for Christmas. THE FOURTH SEASON

of the hit historical drama, based on the novels by James Herriot, will start off in Spring 1940, and will see James (Nicholas Ralph) and Helen (Rachel Shenton) thinking about starting a family - however, they currently don't know whether or not James will be called up to serve in the RAF. Meanwhile, Tristan’s absence is felt by all, but particularly by Siegfried (Samuel West), who attempts to hold the growing household together. However, the arrival of trainee veterinary student Richard Carmody (James Anthony-Rose) causes complications. Anna Madeley returns as Mrs Hall and Patricia Hodge as Mrs Pumphrey. A new cast member joining this season is Neve McIntosh as Miss Harbottle, a highly efficient bookkeeper that Siegfried and James bring in as one of the extra pairs of hands to help around the practice. Tony Pitts, Imogen Clawson, Paul Copley, Cleo Sylvestre, James Bolam, Will Thorp and Sam Retford also star in the new season.

We are starting this Monday from Russia where I have managed to dig out for you first images from historical series STOLIPIN (Столыпин) which is currently in production over in the northern capital of Sankt Peterburg and should launch on Russian national broadcaster and also on Smotrim streamer sometime next year directed by Aleksei Andrianov and with the story set at the tumultuous and revolutionary days of the first years of the 20th century. The cast includes Alexander Ustyugov, Alexander Yatsenko, Stasya Miloslavskaya, Pavel Popov, Yuri Nasonov, Sergei Barkovsky, Daria Konyzheva, Boris Kamorzin, Pavel Trubiner, Andrey Urgant, Vladimir Yumatov and other Russian actors and stars.

THE STORY STARTS IN 1906 

Pyotr Stolypin (Aleksandr Ustyugov), newly appointed Minister of Internal Affairs of the Russian Empire, arrives in Sankt Peterburg. A group of maximalist revolutionaries is developing a plan to kill the “enemy of the revolution.” But how to get close to such an important person? Who will emerge victorious in this confrontation - fanatical supporters of the revolution, firmly convinced that they are right, ready to lay down their lives in the name of alleviating the lot of oppressed workers and peasants, or the all-powerful chairman of the cabinet of ministers, working tirelessly just to restore order in a country torn apart by political violence...
