streaming for the users of Paramount Plus as of September 6th and also on France 2 for the viewers in France. In this comedy adventure version Oscar winner Jean Dujardin takes the lead role! 

 

  THE STORY IS SET IN 1821 

Don Diego de la Vega becomes mayor of his beloved city of Los Angeles, which he intends to make prosper. However, the municipality is facing financial problems due to the greed of a local businessman, Don Emmanuel, against whom the mayor's powers prove insufficient to fight injustice. Diego hasn't called on his double Zorro in 20 years. But in the name of the common good, he has no choice but to pull out his mask and sword. Diego soon finds it difficult to reconcile his dual identity as Zorro and mayor, and this puts a strain on his marriage to Gabriella, who is unaware of his secret. Can Diego save his marriage and his sanity in the midst of chaos? Salvatore Ficarra plays his mute sidekick Bernardo, with Audrey Dana as his wife Gabriella. The series was shot in Spain where epic sets were build to reconstruct a whole 19th century Californian town. Check out the fun trailer for the new series below:

France Television and Paramount + have given us the first image of Jean Dujardin in new French language ZORRO series which will air later this year. Set in 1821 it sees Don Diego de la Vega/Zorro become mayor of Los Angeles to improve his beloved city. However, the city is facing financial trouble due to a local businessman and Diego soon discovers his powers as mayor are not enough to fight injustice. Having not used his Zorro identity for 20 years, he revives his alter-ego but struggles to balance his dual identity, causing strain on his marriage with his wife unaware of his secret. Cast also includes Audrey Dana, Salvatore Ficarra, André Dussolier, Eric Elmosnino and Grégory Gadebois. The series is not to be confused with the Prime Video one or with the Russian one.

New Zorro will air on TV3 in Russia

While you can watch the latest Spanish version of popular ZORRO over at Amazon Prime, Russian channel TV 3 has announced work on their own version of it, but in it the masked hero is over in Russia of course. It is not yet, though, known who will play the lead role even though we have the first mysterious images from the new adventure series revealing the masked hero riding his black steed through the snow. We even have a first teaser for the series which will be set in year 1840. With the action of the new series set to take place in Russia of the early 19th century, the Mexican folk avenger ends up there pursued by the hired killers of the governor of California. TV 3 is also airing the latest Spanish version which hit Prime Video earlier in January. It is interesting that after the major streamers and channels from USA have left Russia, domestic streamers and broadcasters have been having a massive increase in viewership which influenced the capital and creative juices flowing much more potent and thus so many great new projects, both for the small and the big screen, are currently brewing over in Russia.

New Zorro starts January 19th on Prime Video

In less than a month, new series will be offered to the viewers over at Prime Video when on January 19th their new Spanish language series ZORRO starts streaming produced by Secuoya Studios and Mediawan Rights. The ten part series, set in 1834 LosAngeles, sees Miguel Bernardeau playing a new version of Diego de la Vega. Bernardeau stars opposite Renata Notni as LolitaMarquez. The cast is completed by Dalia Xiuhcoatl, Paco Tous, Emiliano Zurita and Joel Bosqued. You can check out a magnificent new trailer below and tell us what you think.

 Everyone expects to control California in 1834: The old colonizers, the newly installed government craving support from Mexico after serving the Spanish crown, Russian oligarchs using their Russian-American companies, the French who don’t want to relinquish their control of this rich territory and the newly formed United States of America. The victims of this struggle are always the same, the people; the native Indians, some of which serve as semi slaves in the missions and others remain free, the Mexican workers exploited and disenfranchised by the government, and the immigrants of every race and origins that came looking for opportunities. Their last hope is a millennial hero that has kept the peace in their world and has now reincarnated in the young Diego de la Vega. New times call for a new hero. The series was shot over at Canary Islands.

It is interesting that France is also shooting a Zorro series with Jean Dujardin in the lead role.

In these seven or so years that Dezzy has been spying for you, methinks we've mentioned ZORRO projects at least a dozen of times and they never really came to fruition, but now it has been revealed that Jonas Cuaron, who is directing a ZORRO movie titled Z (originally known as ZORRO REBORN), has offered the lead role to Gael Garcia Bernal! Although details on the script are very sparse right now, it has been rumoured before that it will be a futuristic take on the famous legend  set in the near future. Bernal has already worked with director Jonas Cuaron on DESIERTO drama which is out in cinemas later this year.
