FIRST PLEVAKO IMAGES
FROM NEW HISTORICAL TV SERIES COMING FROM RUSSIA
I have a whole slate of new Russian period set series and films to present to you in the period ahead of us, they seem to be shooting projects in the historical genre more than others these days, and I will launch this series of news with first images from their new saga PLEVAKO, a ten part series which has been shooting all around Russia since last year. Always wonderful and charismatic Segei Bezrukov, whom you remember as Boris Godunov, plays the title role, one of the most famous lawyers of the Russian Empire. The series will air next year on their channel NTV and online cinema Premier.
IN THE 19TH CENTURY RUSSIA
In the 60s of the 19th century, tzar Alexander II carried out a number
of liberal reforms, one of which was judicial. An important innovation
was the openness of jury trials and the right of any defendant on
defense. Thus, by the end of the 70s and the beginning of the 80s in St.
Petersburg and Moscow, a separate group of lawyers began to stand out
among lawyers, many of whom were real stars, and high-profile trials
with their participation began to attract hundreds of spectators,
competing with theatrical performances. Fyodor Plevako was one of the
most prominent heroes of that time. In addition to his outstanding
oratorical talent and natural ingenuity, he had another important
feature that distinguished him from other lawyers - he originated from
the ordinary people. Being illegitimate himself, Plevako perfectly
understood ordinary people and truly wanted to help them, which made him
a people's favorite! He was striving to protect any client, regardless
of their status and financial situation.
WHO ELSE IS IN THE CAST?
Each of the ten episodes will cover some of
his famous cases. But it is worth noting that the series is not
biographical and is only inspired by historical events. Zoya Berber,
Ksenia Traister, Daniil Vorobyov, Igor Gordin and many others will also
star in the series that has been shooting since November last year with the crew moving all around the country using also snowy exteriors last winter.
Why is it that Russias, even at war, continue making splendid costumers? I can just hope that in three years, Tubi shall buy this. I love this actor.
ReplyDeleteMost of Russian national being is built upon their history, especially the sufferings they went through, so this is why they love and respect historical programmes and are proud of them and they are highly watched. US obviously does not have such history, and thus they as a nation are more focused on current power instead of historical heroic past which most Slavic nations have. That explains why period set shows often flop in USA but not in Slavic and Chinese and Indian world.
DeleteI also love Bezrukov (which funny enough means NoHand LOL), he has a very warm charisma and radiant ellegance.
Although US has a shorter and less epic history than Mother Russia, Americans posses a richness in historical material and I can point out a lot of examples of excellent film and TV set in the past, but for some reason XXI century has seen an a total decay in the genre, perhaps because they tend to be didactic, full of mea colpas, and agendas. When Americans go for costumers they go for foreign stuff like Downton, Phryne Fisher and even silly Bridgerton. They have forgotten how to make homespun warm stories like Little House or The Waltons. And yet Band of Brother is still the second highest rated American show of all times only topped by Breaking Bad.
DeleteIt is possible Band of Brothers air force pilots sequel will bring that epic scope, although I doubt it, but we can only hope. I generally find US history terribly boring, probably because they have always been such villains on a global level.
DeleteBut you are talking about the tepid reaction American films dealing with the u’s involvement in foreign affairs elicits abroad and in you. I’m talking about American customers like The Gilded Age not being welcomed by the US Public. Yet you think about something like Mad Men, seven seasons and loved here and abroad, but of course that was way before wokeism settled in and tainted the American and British products.
DeleteGilded was not unsuccessful it just did not have the same amount of marketing as Downton had, and plus the lead is so annoying.
DeleteLooks good, Dez.
ReplyDeleteGlad you think so, Ray
DeleteIdk how I missed this one, but it does look so good! People are a nosy bunch and do love high profile jury cases. It always amazes me how many people talk about cases as if they know the people on trial. I’d never do good as a lawyer or jury member because I just don’t care enough about other people to listen to their side of the story.
ReplyDeleteHe really was a star because he often fought for the little people.
