HBO'S 17TH CENTURY SERIES 'THE DEVIL YOU KNOW' CASTS EDDIE IZZARD, KAREN GILLAN, MATTHEW JAMES THOMAS, EWEN BREMNER, JULIAN RHIND TUTT, DAMIEN MOLONY

'THE DEVIL YOU KNOW' HBO'S
17TH CENTURY NEW DRAMA
Now, this ain't exactly Dezzy's cup of Earl Grey Tea with a dash of lemon and a spoon of honey (which I'm sipping right now rejoicing in the news that my dearly beloved Chris Evans and Lily Collins are dating), but I know that some of you freaks like weird stuff :) so you might as well enjoy this one: it seems that after the success of WGN America's SALEM, HBO is looking to start a good old witch hunt of their own. As Deadline reports they have already gathered cast for 17th century series pilot THE DEVIL YOU KNOW coming from ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK creator Jenji Kohan and helmed by Gus Van Sant!

SALEM WITCH TRIALS
Described as a provocative period drama, THE DEVIL YOU KNOW explores the circumstances around one of the most compelling chapters in American history — the infamous Salem Witch Trials in 17th century New England, where intolerance and repression set neighbour against neighbour and led a town to mass hysteria.

EDDIE IZZARD, KAREN GILLAN, EWEN BREMNER STAR
Eddie Izzard is leading the cast as Thomas Putnam, the rigid and devoutly Puritan patriarch of the powerful Putnam family. He is a leader in agrarian Salem Village, but his top position is being threatened from many sides. Nadia Alexander is his daughter, bright and ambitious. Ismenia Mendes plays a captured servant girl from Maine who must summon her inner resources. Ever Carradine will play Thomas’ wife, who is sickly but strong among her peers. Damien Molony is Thomas’ eldest son. Julian Rhind Tutt plays Minister Samuel Parris, a hard-line Puritan, who isn’t very popular, until the accusations start. Matthew James Thomas is Henry Paine, a newcomer from England. Nigel Lindsay plays Dr. Griggs, a man of science and reason. Ewen Bremner is Israel Porter, patriarch of the powerful Porter clan. Karen Gillan plays Jane Porter, his youngest daughter.

  2. "The Devil You Know" sounds good to me! I love Eddie Izzard too and he'll be great playing the type of character that his own life is all about opposing.

  3. (Sigh.) I don't have HBO so I guess that's another one I'll miss. Unless it eventually shows up on Netflix.

Is it me or does Julian Rhind Tutt remind anyone of Cody on "Sister Wives"? ooh... no.
Alas - no HBO - but maybe Netflix.

    1. Recently seen an episode of SISTER WIVES in which they were shocked that nobody wants to buy a collection of jewellery titled SISTER WIVES that they designed and wanted to earn on it... and I was like - well hello!?!

  6. I tried watching Salem, but only got through 2 episodes before deleting it off my dvr. Now, I do love Orange is the New Black, so I will be interested in giving The Devil You Know a fair shot.

  7. Interesting. I'm curious to how it will work as a series. Some themes don't have the same running power as others do.

  8. That tea sounds lovely!!!! You are my inspiration to swap healthy tea for my normal coffee with lots of creamer. Are they REALLY dating? I did not know this. I am not his biggest fan, but they just don't seem like a great match.

    1. Just don't put lemon into the burning hot tea :)
It's the latest gossip... I'm totally happy about it, they're two of the sweetest creatures in Hollywood and they are the best match ever! Both so cute, kind, warm and radiant

  9. I tried Salem ( I do like witch stories, especially about Salem), but it was too graphic for me. I like Eddie Izzard though, so maybe I'll take a peek at this one.
