This is something I look forward to. Although Disney films tend to be borderline PG (even if they register as PG13), I wouldn't mind it if they make it interesting. And there is plenty interesting things about this story and its planned cast.
I think Disney is investing a lot of money and effort in a revival of classic adventure genre. Expensive adventure genre, that is. After Prince of Persia, this looks like another high budget adventure movie.
I must admit that I've gotten very excited about this film. At first I thought it was going to be an animated movie, so I didn't pay much attention, but then I discovered the real truth and was amazed by the casting. And now I'm a huge fan :)
It reminds me so much of my favourite kitschy space opera FLASH GORDON, and we haven't seen such flamboyant and luxurious films for ages.
I was surprised with DISNEY, since most of the pics you can see about JOHN CARTER OF MARS are extremely sexy, and one might even say rather pornographic :)) with him jumping out in tiger panties surrounded by some naked big boobed ladies :))
Yeah... That's not Disney marketing. :)) It's probably some old art on this books. After all material is "really old" and such images/publicity were quite common back then.
So called "Golden Age" of science fiction... Books/stories had been written almost exclusively for young males, and women role in those books was to be "damsels in distress". And to look sexy and alluring on covers, more often than not in some subservient positions, like kneeling or standing/hiding behind our hero. :)) Not that women had much different role in general in those days.
yes, but now they've got their revenge among the pages of chick lit novels :) in which men are always described as malignant creatures whose only role is to be big asses :)))
And to be honest, I don't have a single girlfriend who wouldn't like to be some kind of princess be it Leia or Irulan or Aura :) After all isn't it much more comfortable wearing a few charmingly designed inches of sateen or silk instead of some nun clothes or feminist suit :)) and plus being taken care of by some hunky hero instead of being imprisoned behind a stow and kitchen table :)
