ABC'S NEW EPIC TV SERIES

Arriving to us as one of the first of the new historical series this Spring, ABC's midseason epic series OF KINGS AND PROPHETS is ready to bring swords and sandals to the small screens March 8th beginning its Tuesday evening airing.

It will be an epic biblical saga of faith, ambition and betrayal as told through the eyes of the battle weary King Saul, the resentful prophet Samuel and the resourceful young shepherd David -- all on a collision course with destiny that will change the world. Although based on an Old Testament story the producers promise a sex drenched series filled with explicitly racy scenes, describing  one of the world’s first soap operas.

RAY WINSTONE LEADS THE CAST

 The king from the story will be played by Ray Winstone, as the paranoid and violent Saul, First King of Israel. We meet him as he struggles to unify the 12 Israelite tribes and defend his fledgling nation against savage enemy attacks.

 Ahinoam will be played by Simone Kessell from TERRA NOVA. She is the queen of Israel, the advisor to the throne as the wife of Saul!

Shepherd David is played by Oliver Rix from THE MUSKETEERS! He is the future King David, the second king of Israel!

  Ish-Boseth, the youngest warrior son of the first king and queen of Israel Saul and Ahinoam will be potrayed by James Floyd.

 Jonathan, the elder son of King Saul is played by  Haaz Sleiman!

 Merav, the eldest daughter of King Saul and Queen Ahinoam and sister of Michal, is played by Jeanine Mason .

 Their youngest daughter Michal is Maisie Richardson Sellers!

Belgian actor Louis Talpe will play Eliab, King David’s proud and single minded older brother.

 The cagey, shrewd and lethal King Achish, the King of Philistia who has been warring with King Saul for years is played by  Nathaniel Parker!

Christina Chong plays Rizpah in the series!
Yoab is played by David Walmsley!
Lyne Renee is the Witch of Endor!

The series itself underwent many changes and reshoots and recastings and was moved to midseason instead of original Sunday night slot.

Not much to report today, so we're turning over to the TV world with the new photos of Jude Law as the pontiff in THE YOUNG POPE TV series that is under production. The new headshots show he looks brilliant with grey hair and in papal robes! In the Oscar winner Paolo Sorrentino directed drama he will play the fictional role of the first American Pope in contemporary times who is ultra conservative and thus has problems in Vatican. Diane Keaton is a nun who raised him and helped him become the pope. HBO, Sky and Canal + will air the series later this year.

And ABC has finally released an extended trailer for the midseason epic TV series OF KINGS AND PROPHETS and I'm afraid it looks kinda cheap and lacking in visual image. To start airing March 8th, it will be set 1,000 years before Christ, following the first king of the Israelites, Saul (Ray Winstone), who struggles to unify the 12 Israelite tribes and defend his fledgling nation against savage enemy attacks. The prophet Samuel relays a message from God to King Saul that he must destroy one of Israel’s ancient enemies. But when Saul defies that message, Samuel prophesies that the Lord will tear the kingdom of Israel from him and choose another in his place. In time, Saul comes to realize that his greatest threat will not come from his enemies but from the shepherd, David (Oliver Rix).

And today I have for you the sweetest of treats, the first photos from my own most anticipated new show of the year NBC's epic fantasy series EMERALD CITY giving us the first glimpses of Adria Arjona as Dorothy and Oliver Jackson Cohen as Scarecrow, Vincent D'Onofrio as the Wizard and Florence Kasumba as the Wicked Witch of the East. Visual genius Tarsem Singh is directing the ten part series in which 20-year-old Dorothy Gale is transported to a mystical land in great peril, where an all-powerful Wizard has outlawed magic and rules over the many kingdoms. This is the fabled Land of Oz in a way you’ve never seen before — where lethal warriors roam, wicked witches plot in the shadows and a young girl from Kansas becomes the headstrong hero who holds the fate of their world in her hands. Joely Richardson plays Glinda.

'THE RANCH' SITCOM

First photos have also been released for new multicamera sitcom coming to Netflix sometime later this year THE RANCH in which Ashton Kutcher and Danny Masterson are rejoined again! It follows a confident-but-failed semipro football player (Ashton Kutcher) who returns to Colorado to help run the family ranch. Danny Masterson is his second-fiddle brother, and Sam Elliott is their stiff-necked father. Their strong-willed mother (Debra Winger) owns a bar and temporarily lives in a trailer behind it while she figures out her marriage.

ITV has released the first photo today of Jenna Coleman as the ruthless British enslaver Queen VICTORIA in their new historical series which will have a 90 minute opening episode followed by seven hourlong ones. Charting her early life from accepting the crown at age 18 till her marriage to Prince Albert, the drama will also have Rufus Sewell as Lord Melbourne, Victoria's first prime minister and her intimate friend which started many rumours back in the day. The ensemble cast also includes Paul Rhys as Sir John Conroy, the ambitious controller of the Duchess of Kent’s household, who controlled Victoria’s upbringing, hoping to rule through her, when she came to the throne. Peter Firth is queen’s conniving uncle the Duke of Cumberland, and Catherine Flemming  is the Duchess of Kent, Queen Victoria’s mother. Eve Myles is Mrs Jenkins, the Queen’s senior dresser.

In other news from epic TV series 'Deadline' reports that Belgian actor Louis Talpe has landed a season long recurring role on ABC’s midseason drama OF KINGS AND PROPHETS. Postponed for recasting and reshooting after a rather terrible first trailer, it is an epic Biblical saga of faith, ambition and betrayal as told through the eyes of a battle weary king, a powerful and resentful prophet and a resourceful young shepherd on a collision course with destiny. Talpe will play Eliab, King David’s (Oliver Rix) proud and single minded older brother. King Saul is played by Ray Winstone while Nathaniel Parker is King Achish of Philistia!

Meanwhile, a number of delightful character posters have been released for new British movie comedy DAD'S ARMY the remake of legendary BBC classic series which will march (or die trying) into cinemas next February with a stellar cast lead by Toby Jones as Captain Mainwaring and Bill Nighy as Sergeant Wilson. They're joined by Corporal Jones (Tom Courtenay), Private Godfrey (Michael Gambon), Private Pike (Blake Harrison) and Private Walker (Danny Mays), plus Catherine Zeta Jones's visiting journalist Rose Winters who's writing an article on the home guard.

In TV news today, ABC's midseason new historical series OF KINGS AND PROPHETS has added Jeanine Mason to the cast which is currently undergoing changes. The series is an epic Biblical saga of faith, ambition and betrayal as told through the eyes of a battle weary king, a powerful and resentful prophet and a resourceful young shepherd on a collision course with destiny. Jeanine Mason will play Merav, the eldest daughter of King Saul (Ray Winstone) and Queen Ahinoam (Simone Kessell), and sister of Michal (Maisie Richardson Sellers). Nathaniel Parker has recently joined the cast as Achish, the King of Philistia! A new director Michael Offer has been brought to reshoot the entire pilot episode!

  NEW MOVIE ADAPTATION 

ERIC JAGER'S 'THE LAST DUEL'
Speaking of epic news, 'Deadline' reports that Shaun Grant will adapt Eric Jager's historical novel THE LAST DUEL into a movie. The "Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2" helmer Francis Lawrence is attached to direct the true story of a duel in 1386 between knights Jean de Carrouges and Jacques Le Gris. It was the final duel sanctioned by the French government, ruled at the time by King Charles VI.

In the trailer department check out the new one for upcoming comedy movie SHE'S FUNNY THAT WAY out this August! Directed by Peter Bogdanovich it features the interconnected personal lives of the cast and crew of a Broadway production. When established director Arnold Albertson (Owen Wilson) casts his call girl turned actress Isabella “Izzy” Patterson (Imogen Poots) in a new play to star alongside his wife Delta (Kathryn Hahn) and her ex-lover Seth Gilbert (Rhys Ifans), a zany love tangle forms with hilarious twists. Jennifer Aniston plays Izzy’s therapist Jane, who is consumed with her own failing relationship with Arnold’s playwright Joshua Fleet (Will Forte), who is also developing a crush on Izzy.

As you know it was supposed to start airing this Autumn on Sunday nights at ABC, but new historical series OF KINGS AND PROPHETS has been pushed to Mid Season in order for the producers to fix all the weak spots and improve the story. That also means some recasting, so the new face to be added to the cast is Nathaniel Parker as the cagey, shrewd and lethal King Achish, the King of Philistia who has been warring with King Saul (Ray Winstone) for years.   'FEAR THE WALKING DEAD'

Meanwhile, first poster and cast photo have been released for THE WALKING DEAD companion series FEAR THE WALKING DEAD which should hit the small screens in more than 150 countries around the world later this summer, in August to be more precise!

  Kim Dickens leads the cast of the series, as a school guidance counsellor Madison living in Los Angeles at the beginning of the zombie apocalypse. She is sceptical when she hears of the spreading zombie virus, but soon realises that she and her family are in grave danger. Cliff Curtis plays her fiancé Travis, Frank Dillane plays her dropout son Nick, and Alycia Debnam Carey is her responsible daughter Alicia. The series, which, apparently, won't include as much zombies as its older sister series, will also have Rubén Blades, Elizabeth Rodriguez and Sandrine Holt in the cast.

TO LEAD 'FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM'

Probably the main news today is that fresh Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne is close to getting the lead role of Newt Scamander in HARRY PLOPPER prequel FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM! The script, adapted by J.K. Rowling herself, will be set 70 years before HARRY PLOPPER  long before Harry and his friends ever arrived at Hogwarts! The story revolves around Scamander as he sets out to write a text book about all of the fantastical creatures living in the real world, undetected by mankind. David Yates is directing, and this will be his fifth movie in the franchise. The movie arrives into theatres November 2016.

'SHADOWHUNTERS' SERIES

 KATHERINE MCNAMARA, MATTHEW DADDARIO AND ISAIAH MUSTAFA JOIN THE CAST

Meanwhile, ABC Family has rounded up its cast for their new fantasy series SHADOW HUNTERS based on MORTAL INSTRUMENTS books. Katherine McNamara will take the lead role of 18-year old Clary who finds out  that she comes from a long line of SHADOW HUNTERS — human angels who hunt down demons. When her mother Jocelyn is kidnapped, Clary is thrown into the world of demon hunting with mysterious Shadowhunter Jace (Dominic Sherwood) and her best friend Simon (Alberto Rosende). Now living among faeries, warlocks, vampires and werewolves, Clary begins a journey of self discovery as she learns more about her past and what her future may hold. Matthew Daddario will play Alec Lightwood, who joins Jace (towards whom he develops romantic love) and his sister Isabelle (Emeraude Toubia) to hunt down creatures, while Isaiah Mustafa will appear as Luke Garroway, a detective and a werewolf pack leader who was once a powerful and strong Shadowhunter himself.

'UNDATEABLE' GETS 3RD SEASON

While many sitcoms were axed this week (MCCARTHYS, ONE BIG HAPPY, MARRY ME, ABOUT A BOY, CRISTELA) our favourite UNDATEABLE has been ordered for third, 13 episode, season which will, listen to this, all air live next year!  It is the only returning comedy series at NBC! The cast is lead by outstanding comedians Brent Morin, Chris D'Elia, Bjanka Kaylich and Rick Glassman!
