After winning an award at Toronto, moving new drama movie DEAR JASSI is moving over to London Film Festival in October. It took director Tarsem Singh almost twenty years to shoot the film and it is his first one after almost ten years. He is known as a director of exquisite visual splendour as seen in Mirror, Mirror, Immortals, The Fall and The Cell, but now he is dealing with a tragic love story and the tradition of honour killing in India. The real life story is set during the 1990s, when on a trip to visit her extended family in Jagraon, Jassi (Pavia Sidhu) meets Mithu (Yugam Sood), a rickshaw driver who lives down the street. She quickly falls for him, but their time is cut short as Jassi is expected to return with her mother to their home in Canada. The sweethearts begin exchanging love letters, and Mithu starts making travel plans. But when Jassi sees her family lash out at one of her cousin's suitors, she realizes there's no easy way to pursue their relationship and that terrifying consequences could await them. The film is based on the true story from June 8, 2000, when beautician Jassi Kaur was murdered in the Punjab province of India. The 24-year-old Indo-Canadian was killed by hitmen hired by her mother and uncle who felt she had brought shame on their family for marrying a rickshaw driver she had fallen in love with while visiting relatives. It took more than 10 years for them to be arrested. Tarsem comes from the same village as Jassi and has also lived in Canada just like her.

I'm sure you will agree with me, my spylings, that this year's television season hasn't brought many particularly good things to the small screens and that is why we are awaiting the midseason with great hunger, and with it the launch of new programmes. The one we are especially looking forward to is Tarsem Singh's EMERALD CITY which will bring some enchanting epic fantasy to Friday evenings from January 6th with its two hour special opening over at NBC! Emerald City is described as a modern and dark reimagining of the classic tale of Oz. Swept up into the eye of a tornado, 20 year old Dorothy Gale and her K9 police dog are transported to another world — a mystical land in great peril, where an all powerful Wizard has outlawed magic and rules over a mystical land of competing kingdoms, lethal warriors, dark magic and a bloody battle for supremacy! This is the fabled Land of Oz in a way you’ve never seen before — where lethal warriors roam, wicked witches plot in the shadows and a young girl from Kansas becomes the headstrong hero who holds the fate of their world in her hands.

TARSEM'S STELLAR CAST

Created by Matthew Arnold, the series sees young Adria Arjona playing the grown up Dorothy  Gale, Oliver Jackson Cohen is Lucas, the Scarecrow and also her love interest, he is handsome, mysterious and quick witted. Dorothy finds him, beaten, bloodied, and moaning on a post outside the ruins of his village. The sole survivor of what appears to gave been a mass crucifixion, he remembers nothing of his past, not even his name. He joins Dorothy on her journey to the EMERALD CITY, and as they survive challenge after challenge, he proves his loyalty to the brave but bewildered newcomer.

Florence Kasumba is a rather dramatic new Wicked Witch of the East with a rather glitzy fashion taste. Gorgeous Joely Richardson is the Good Witch Glinda, while Vincent D'Onofrio is the big Wizard himself, the enigmatic leader of Emerald City. A man of science in a world of magic, he rules through inspiration, fear and a tenuous accord with the grand witches!

The Wicked Witch of the West is played by Ana Ularu, she is a force of nature who has entered an unholy alliance with the Wizard. Corrupt and languorously seductive, she is a creature of perverse humour and unsavoury appetites. She lives in a lavishly appointed brothel where she is the madam of sorts. When confronted with the news of the First Sign that foretells the coming of the Beast, she’s clearly deeply affected by the portent’s significance…and what it means for her.

Mido Hamada is brave warrior Eamonn, Stefanie Martini is lovely Lady Ev, while Jordan Loughran is Tip, and Gerran Howell is Jack, brave, adventurous and perpetually positive!
And in a dream come true for your spy, our most beloved Trevor Morris, the genius who created heavenly music for epic series such as The Tudors, The Borgias,  Vikings, Reign and Dracula, is composing the music for EMERALD CITY as well!

Now, people the drought has been long, but it is finally over with the most delicious of nectars: the first, utterly gorgeous and positively stunning character photos have been released today for NBC's upcoming new epic fantasy adventure EMERALD CITY coming from that insanely talented visual mastermind Tarsem Singh (THE CELL, THE FALL, IMMORTALS). Meanwhile, a new poster has been revealed for December 2016 movie version of ASSASSIN'S CREED video game!  Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day. 'THE GOOD PLACE' SITCOM

NBC has also ordered a whole series of new singlecamera sitcom THE GOOD PLACE! When Eleanor (Kristen Bell) has a brush with the afterlife, she realizes she hasn’t been a very good person. So she works to fix that, aided by an “afterlife mentor” played by Ted Danson.

'MARLON' SITCOM  
Also getting a series order at NBC is Marlon Wayans' new multi camera sitcom MARLON! A loving (but immature) father committed to co-parenting his two kids with his very-together ex-wife. While his misguided fatherly advice, unstoppable larger-than-life personality and unpredictable Internet superstardom might get in the way sometimes, for Marlon, family really always does come first — even if he's the biggest kid of all.

'TIMELESS' SF SERIES

Another series to lend a series order at NBC is TIMELESS starring Matt Lanter.  In the sf series a mysterious criminal steals a secret state-of-the-art time machine, intent on destroying America by changing the past. An unexpected team: a scientist, soldier and history professor must use the machine’s prototype to travel back in time to critical events. While they must make every effort not to affect the past themselves, they must also stay one step ahead of this dangerous fugitive. Can this handpicked team uncover the mystery behind it all and end his destruction before it’s too late?

SUDEIKIS IS 'SON OF ZORN'
Fox has ordered unusual half hour comedy series mixing live action with CGI characters SON OF ZORN with the voice of Jason Sudeikis. Upon arriving home on Earth for the first time in 10 years, Zorn, a fully animated, legendary warrior, finds that reconnecting with his live-action son and ex-wife while suffering through a mundane office job and the banality of suburban life is harder than waging actual war in his distant, mystical homeland of Zephyria. 'THE RANCH' SITCOM

First photos have also been released for new multicamera sitcom coming to Netflix sometime later this year THE RANCH in which Ashton Kutcher and Danny Masterson are rejoined again! It follows a confident-but-failed semipro football player (Ashton Kutcher) who returns to Colorado to help run the family ranch. Danny Masterson is his second-fiddle brother, and Sam Elliott is their stiff-necked father. Their strong-willed mother (Debra Winger) owns a bar and temporarily lives in a trailer behind it while she figures out her marriage.

The latest star to join NBC's new epic fantasy series to be directed by incredible visual genius Tarsem Singh EMERALD CITY is Joely Richardson in the role of Glinda! 

Vincent D’Onofrio is set to play the mighty Wizard, while newcomer Adria Ajorna is Dorothy Gale, the 20-year-old who is swept up by a tornado and transported to the mythical Oz. Her K9 police dog find themselves in another world, one far removed from our own — a mystical land of competing kingdoms, lethal warriors, dark magic and a battle for supremacy. Oliver Jackson Cohen will play the lead male role, Ana Ularu is the Wicked Witch, alongside Jordan Loughran, Gerran Howell and Mido Hamada.

'GODS OF EGYPT' 2ND TRAILER

And two trailers for you today, starting with the second one for next year's biggest epic spectacle GODS OF EGYPT which will bring Ancient Egyptian splendour into cinemas next February. This new trailer shows all the magnificent scenes and sets we shall see and also offers the first glimpse of Geoffrey Rush as supreme god Ra! Gerard Butler is Set, the merciless god of darkness, who has taken over the throne of Egypt and plunged the once peaceful and prosperous empire into chaos. Few dare to rebel against him. It is only natural for the avalanche of new trailers this week to continue with some real snow which can be seen in the first trailer for Hugh Jackman's EDDIE THE EAGLE which will jump into cinemas this April! Taron Egerton plays hapless British ski jumper EDDIE THE EAGLE who became a media sensation when he entered the 1988 Winter Olympics as the first representative from Great Britain in the Olympic category and came in last in both ski jump events. Hugh Jackman plays a ski expert who helped him train for the Olympics!
