Catherine Zeta Jones stars as Olivia de Havilland, with Alfred Molina, Stanley Tucci and Kathy Bates also in the cast of March 5th series.

Great news, people, after a very long wait we finally have the first name in the cast for new STAR TREK: DISCOVERY TV series which will air at CBS next spring and through Netflix around the world! Michelle Yeoh has been announced by one of the show's producers as the new captain!

Sadly, it won't be the lead role since this series will have a female starship lieutenant commander of colour as the protagonist thus marking it as the first of the STAR TREK series that won't have their lead star commanding the ship! Michelle Yeoh will apparently have a reoccurring role as a character named Han Bo a captain of another ship named the Shenzhou and should have an important role in the first season which won't have individual stories in each episode but will follow a longer storyline set ten years before the original series when Star Federation was first venturing into the unknown space.  If the rumours are right DISCOVERY will also have a male British doctor aboard and at least one gay character!

  'THE BOOK OF LOVE' TRAILER

And a lovely first trailer for Jason Sudeikis' (looking better than ever in it) new movie THE BOOK OF LOVE which is out this January in cinemas. Originally titled The Devil and the Deep Blue See it will see Sudeikis playing Henry an introverted architect. After the death of his wife (played by Jessica Biel) in a car accident, he sets out to help Millie, a homeless teen (played with a very, very bad accent, by Maisie Williams), to build a raft to sail across the Atlantic. Also starring Paul Reiser, Orlando Jones and Mary Steenburgen the movie features beautiful original music from Justin Timberlake!

We're continuing our TV renewals and cancellations (The Mysteries of Laura is the latest to be killed off) weekend, people, with first photos from the freshly ordered new series!

EMERALD CITY  
First of, check out brand new photos from out most anticipated new show next season, Tarsem directed visual extravaganza EMERALD CITY NBC's modernized take on the Wizard of Oz tale. Florence Kasumba is the Wicked Witch of the East, Adria Arjona is Dorothy Gale and Oliver Jackson-Cohen is Lucas, her love interest. Joely Richardson is Glinda and Vincent D’Onofrio the Wizard of Oz.  It is set in a mystical land of competing kingdoms, lethal warriors, dark magic and a bloody battle for supremacy, the fabled Land of Oz in a way you’ve never seen before, where wicked witches don’t stay dead for long and a young girl becomes a headstrong warrior who holds the fate of kingdoms in her hands.

'THE GOOD PLACE' SITCOM

NBC has also ordered a whole series of new singlecamera sitcom THE GOOD PLACE! When Eleanor (Kristen Bell) has a brush with the afterlife, she realizes she hasn’t been a very good person. So she works to fix that, aided by an “afterlife mentor” played by Ted Danson.

'MARLON' SITCOM  
Also getting a series order at NBC is Marlon Wayans' new multi camera sitcom MARLON! A loving (but immature) father committed to co-parenting his two kids with his very-together ex-wife. While his misguided fatherly advice, unstoppable larger-than-life personality and unpredictable Internet superstardom might get in the way sometimes, for Marlon, family really always does come first — even if he's the biggest kid of all.

'TIMELESS' SF SERIES

Another series to lend a series order at NBC is TIMELESS starring Matt Lanter.  In the sf series a mysterious criminal steals a secret state-of-the-art time machine, intent on destroying America by changing the past. An unexpected team: a scientist, soldier and history professor must use the machine’s prototype to travel back in time to critical events. While they must make every effort not to affect the past themselves, they must also stay one step ahead of this dangerous fugitive. Can this handpicked team uncover the mystery behind it all and end his destruction before it’s too late?

SUDEIKIS IS 'SON OF ZORN'
Fox has ordered unusual half hour comedy series mixing live action with CGI characters SON OF ZORN with the voice of Jason Sudeikis. Upon arriving home on Earth for the first time in 10 years, Zorn, a fully animated, legendary warrior, finds that reconnecting with his live-action son and ex-wife while suffering through a mundane office job and the banality of suburban life is harder than waging actual war in his distant, mystical homeland of Zephyria. I haven't seen her in quite a long time, but 90's German movie star Franka Potente (RUN, LOLA, RUN) has just joined Tom Hardy's Victorian series TABOO which, set in 1814,  follows James Keziah Delaney (Tom Hardy), a man who has been to the ends of the earth and comes back irrevocably changed. Believed to be long dead, he returns home to London from Africa to inherit what is left of his father’s shipping empire and rebuild a life for himself. But his father’s legacy is a poisoned chalice, and with enemies lurking in every dark corner, James must navigate increasingly complex territories to avoid his own death sentence. Franka Potente will play Helga, a business minded madam who shares a history with James.

TO GET 'STATUS UPDATE'
Meanwhile, something for the ladies, ex Disney star and now a sex symbol Gregg Sulkin will lead comedy movie STATUS UPDATE  in which he will play Josh, a five star high school quarterback who wants to be a journalist. When he writes an article about his social experiment of changing his Facebook status from “single” to “interested in men,” a fellow male student with a crush on him creates a tribute video to “Josh the Gay Quarterback” that goes viral. The media picks it up, and Josh becomes a hero to gay teens. As his relationships get tested, can he keep the secret that he’s straight?

Are you ready for the return of our favourite TV sitcoms? ABC Family, which has been renamed into FreeForm this year, is opening their Wednesday evening comedy block again tomorrow with the return of their most beloved comedies BABY DADDY and YOUNG AND HUNGRY! Both sitcoms have ended their previous episodes with love cliffhangers! BABY DADDY is returning for its fifth season and the audience is awaiting to see if Danny (Derek Theler) will finally get Riley (Chelsea Kane) to whom he proposed crashing his mother Bonnie's (Melissa Peterman) wedding. But it turns out she fainted and doesn't remember the proposal! Meanwhile, his brother and Riley's previous fling Ben (Jean Luc Bilodeau) is getting a new love interest in new neighbour to be played by Jonna Walsh!

As always, BBC has something epic in store for us! Together with David Farr (the NIGHT MANAGER scribe) they will produce a  historical television series based on the fall of Troy! TROY: FALL OF A CITY is supposed to retell the majesty and wonder of the Trojan War to the new generation of viewers. With the 3,000 year old story told for the first time through the eyes of a Trojan family, who become entangled in the conflict as war with Greece breaks out, the drama will re-examine the Judgement of Paris, a key event in the ancient world's most prominent tales. The series will convey the emotional richness, the effects of war, and the toll taken on city and family by the horrors of siege.

Meanwhile, in TV news, Amazon has announced that they will start airing the pilot episode for CASANOVA historical adventure series next week, August 7th in United Kingdom, Germany and United States!  Shot in three different European countries and directed by Jean Pierre Jeunet (Amelie), the series stars Diego Luna in the title role, Serbian actress Bojana Novakovic as Madame Pompadour, Miranda Richardson as Marquesa d’Urfé, James Flynn as King Louis XV and Ben Daniels. As Deadline reports today our most favourite actress of all times, gorgeous and ultra talented Oscar winner and Australian thespian Cate Blanchett is to start directing for the small screens. She will helm STATELESS immigration TV series based on shocking real events around the tragic story of Cornelia Rau, a young German Australian woman who escaped a frightening cult only to be trapped in a bizarre labyrinth of Australian psychiatric and legal systems. Cate Blanchett has directed a number of plays in Australia together with her husband and is also planning to direct a movie. She will play a lesbian lady in period set movie CAROL this December, then a news anchor in TRUTH next to Topher Grace and Robert Redford, and in 2017 she will lend her voice to snake Kaa in the live action version of JUNGLE BOOK with Christian Bale and Benedict Cumberbatch.

 'ZELDA' AMAZON SERIES

In other television news, Amazon has found their lead actor for period set series pilot ZELDA in young Gavin Stenhouse who will play F. Scott Fitzgerald next to Christina Ricci who is playing the title role of his insane wife. The series will focus on the wife of the famous writer of THE GREAT GATSBY. She was an embodiment of the 1920s lifestyle that revolved around drinking, jazz and defying traditional culture! She was also a writer, working on essays for magazines, short stories and she penned her own novel "Save Me the Waltz." Because of her schizophrenia and mental instability she spent last years of her life in mental hospitals and she died burnt alive when one of them caught fire while she was locked in it.

Meanwhile, as it is now a custom at least once each year, we are getting a romantic star studded omnibus movie in 2016 as well! As 'Deadline' writes today, Open Road Films has picked up American rights to Garry Marshall’s MOTHER'S DAY, the latest in the director’s holiday movie series which includes NEW YEAR'S EVE and VALENTINE'S DAY. The film, which has an ensemble cast including Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson, Jason Sudeikis, Julia Roberts, follows the lives of several mothers leading up to the title holiday! The movie will be released at the end of next April. We might expect new names in the cast announced soon since shooting begins next month in Atlanta.

The absolute TV star of 2015, Taraji P. Henson (that body from the photo has an 18 year old son, by the way) is joining EMPIRE's creator Danny Strong in THE BEST OF ENEMIES which he is producing. As 'Deadline' reports Taraji will play Ann Atwater, the ferocious civil rights activist in Durham, North Carolina who had a decade long battle with sworn enemy C.P. Ellis, from Durham’s Ku Klux Klan. Their feud came to an abrupt and unlikely end in 1971. After a court ordered school desegregation decree threw the Southern city into turmoil, Atwater and Ellis reluctantly agreed to co-chair an intensive, two week community meeting to try to reach a compromise. The extraordinary events that followed changed Durham, and the lives of Atwater and Ellis forever.
