MALEFICENT, OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL, HANSEL AND GRETHEL and LITTLE MERMAID are getting their movie versions too, so we didn't even doubt that everybody's favourite CINDERELLA will hit the big screens too in a live action version. I did inform you a year or so ago that Disney is planning CINDERELLA movie and the latest update is that the studio wants Cate Blanchett to play the evil stepmother! What, what, what?!? Blanchett evil? It seems they see her that way :( This means she might walk the steps of Angelina Jolie and Charlize Theron who played or will play evil fairy tale icons in SNOW WHITE and MALEFICENT. The film is being directed by Mark Romanek who is most famous for
brilliant ONE HOUR PHOTO and for directing some famous music videos. As you know, Blanchett is no stranger to fairy tales since this December she is again playing elven queen Galadriel in THE HOBBIT!
HOLLYWOOD SPY HEADLINES
In television news today, "The Hollywood Reporter" writes about Julian
Fellowes, the creator of deeply monotonous DOWNTON ABBEY and GOSFORD
PARK (colour me bored), is preparing another period series but for US
television. He will write and produce series about the millionaires of
1880s New York titled THE GILDED AGE for NBC. The new show will be set
in a vivid time with dizzying, brilliant ascents and calamitous falls,
of record breaking ostentation and savage rivalry - a time when money
was king. Wait, wait! It isn't any more??? The same site also reports about Charlize Theron taking the
lead role in American version of South Korean film SYMPATHY FOR LADY
VENGEANCE, about a woman who spends 13 years in prison for a crime she
did not commit and then sets about exacting the revenge she has plotted
during her time behind bars. Theron is no stranger to tough stories, since you probably know that her own mother shot her husband and Charlize's father when he had tried to attack them drunk when Charlize was a little girl.
JAGUAR'S DESIRE
Our favourite redhaired hunk Damian Lewis has got himself a new gig: the
HOMELAND star, whom we shall watch next year in ROMEO AND JULIET, will
star in Jaguar's short promo film DESIRE! Promoting the famous cars the
film tells the story of Clark (Damian Lewis), who delivers cars for a
living, running into trouble after a chance encounter with a mysterious,
young woman (Shannyn Sossamon) in the middle of a lawless desert.
Directed by Adam Smith, this is a story of betrayal, retribution,
passion and greed. The whole thing will be shot in Chile's Atacama
Desert. I wonder if he'll get paid in money or in a jaguar? Which payment would you prefer?
I love Cate and love the idea of her playing bad for a spell! That would be a Cinderella I would check out for sure! And I can not wait for The Hobbit to come out...I am just sad that I am going to be in the middle of working so many days in a row and am going to have to wait until I'm on vacation to see it!
ReplyDeleteAh, at least you will see it in December... me I'm not so sure... :(
DeleteHope they cast someone nice for Cinderella and not some Hollywood brat :(
They could really ruin the movie with the wrong Cinderella!
Deletethey could, especially if they have in mind some of the Twilight kids or something horrid like that :(
DeleteLet's try not to think about the possibility of that!
Deleteagreed
DeleteWhere did you get that first photo of Cate? That's such an bizarre photo of her. Also, I kind of think she'll make a chilling evil step-mother. She's got a stern side to her that can be very intimidating.
ReplyDeleteI've had that photo for a long time and have been waiting for an opportunity to use it :) I'm guessing she did it as a photo shoot for some magazine when she was promoting ELIZABETH.
DeleteSympathy for Lady Vengeance remake...I'd watch that!
ReplyDeleteI knew you would, Lurk :)
DeleteLooking forward to see the Vengeance movie!
ReplyDeleteglad to hear it!
DeleteCate Blanchett was so mean in "Hanna" -- I think she can pull of a great performance as the evil stepmother in a big screen adaptation of Cinderella but wait a minute...I hope you're kidding with The Little Mermaid being among the live action fairy tale releases to come in the future. How in the world would they do that? I mean, I think it would be silly unless the right production team is behind it.
ReplyDeleteI love Charlize Theron, so whatever she's working on, I wish it much success and could see her doing well in almost any type of roll -- even if it's a woman in prison.
Sometimes I wonder if she takes on the tough roles to ensure that she is attached to good projects with strong characters and not be stuck playing the same role in movie after movie. It's amazing to see her flourish this way because she's so beautiful and could just as easily be in romantic comedies and/or movies where she doesn't really have to stretch or exercise her talents and skills as an actress but she continues to put out not only good work, but also challenging work -- and for that, I believe that audiences are truly lucky that there is someone like Charlize Theron among the great actresses currently working in Hollywood.

In one of the old posts (the one on upcoming underwater films) I mentioned that two LITTLE MERMAID projects are in plan. Early stages, so they might not happen in the end. Ariel would spend her time in the kingdom not underwater that much :)
DeleteI wouldn't say that romantic comedies don't require talent, quite the opposite. What concerns me about Charlize is that most of her upcoming roles are very bizzare and violent. MAD MAX, this new one and some other....
No, not our Cate evil. How can they picture her that way after Galadriel? And the Wicked Stepmother is old and ugly. It would take a team of artists to make Cate look either.
ReplyDeleteThe big families of the 1800s are still around. The Morgans, the Rockefellers, the Vanderbilts and the Mellons-what a nasty little bunch. Unfortunately for all of us, they are still playing with peoples lives, but now they do it on a global level. Especailly the Morgans and the Vanderbilts.
I don't think I will be able to watch her evil, Annzie, I simply won't! Especially after she disappointed me by accepting the role in HANNAH which promotes kids as cool assassins... disgusting.
DeleteYep, the rich and the filthy :( We have such Mr. Burns lookalikes in Serbia too, they own half of the country.
Cate can pull off evil oh yes she can. Besides, dark roles sharpen the skills much better than a goody role. It's easier to be a good character than a bad one because people have more sympathy and identify with good.
ReplyDeleteThe Gilded Age sounds fantastic and you know I'll be watching it.
Love the characters Charlize is playing. She is really opening up her talents and stretching herself. Lady Vengeance is going to rock. ;)
Sorry, Melsy, but I absolutely do not agree that playing evil is a show of talent and that playing good is mediocre and something that everybody can do. If you want to show dramatic talent play some great person who survived lots of things, play humanitarians, good people, play people who suffered for the good of others, play people who inspire, play people who helped save the world, play people who are true inspiration.... not people who kill, beat or promote violence in any way.
DeleteOur great minds don't always synchronize, sweetie. :) I do see where you are coming from, though.
DeleteMiss Cate is going to be a great "evil" and will rock the role! What can't she play, really? She's amazing.
ReplyDeleteWell, Charlize comes to the table prepared for that role given her family history, doesn't she? Wow...a little lost for words on that bit of info as I did not know this part of her history.
Charlize really had terrible childhood back in South Africa :( Some say that this is why she refuses to get married and why she broke off with Stuart Townsend who loved her heaps and wanted to marry her after almost ten years they spent together.
DeleteThat's so sad, Dezzie. But what's even sadder is it sounds like she's living in fear of a repeat performance from the men in her life...what a shame.
DeleteThanks for shedding some extra light (or in this case dark) on Charlize's life...I've always been a fan of hers and only wish her happiness.
It's always like that, Jenny, in psychology :( This is why we psychologists always say that the childhood, especially the first 5 or 6 years of it, are the most important for establishing the later adult personality. We are all the result of those early years. For example, I was constantly left alone and nobody dealt with me in early years which is why I grew up into a very quiet person. Charlize obviously had her issues :(
DeleteCate can do anything! She is amazing ;D
ReplyDeleteOoh, The Gilded Age does sound good...
Damien will be great! Can't wait~
she really is the best
DeleteTheron is so hot
ReplyDeleteindeed she is
Deleteyou had me at cate, hello!! the other girl is okay, she ain't no cate... meow.
ReplyDeleteshe's the cat's meow!
DeleteCate Blanchett is everything but evil-looking.. then again, she's a terrific actress. I'm sure she'd do a wonderful job. She might even add some depth to the story...
ReplyDeleteI'm sure she will, I have no doubt about it, but I personally cannot watch her in evil roles, I just can't, I need to have the last heroes in my life :(
DeleteCate as evil woman? yeaaaa....her evil character in Hanna is great, I want to see her as annoying woman again :)
ReplyDelete...however, they need to choose Cinderella wisely. We don't want that incident with Snow white happens again where the flat face Stewart is considered prettier than Theron *shaking head*
