  1. Pretty strong cast for directorial debut of a former (former?) actress.
I agree that Rachel isn't old enough to have teenage kids, and that Robert is too old to play a teenager.
Still, this could be a very interesting film, both for men and women. It may have a right mix of drama, adventure, romance and action.

Let wish all the luck to Madeleine Stowe in her debut.

  2. I loved Madeleine back in the 90's in the era of video tapes films :)
Her last big film were the famous BAD GIRLS, the female western, which means she has an experience in the genre.
I liked her in TWELVE MONKEYS as well, and in her most famous role in THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS.

  3. Dammit. I just realised we were talking about Madeleine Stowe, and not Virgina Madsen. :))) I can't believe I mixed up those two names. They are not even remotely similar. :) And neither are the actresses.

I also remember Madeleine from Bad Girls, and I'm sure I should remember her from somewhere else. But I can't. :) Not even from Twelve Monkeys or The Last of the Mohicans. Even though I've seen those movies (one time only I think). Although, now that you mentioned it, I think I can picture her in those (vaguely).
I'm not proud of my memory. :)) At least I can recognise her face easily. :)

  4. Oh, I quite like both of them, Madeleine and Virginia. I thought that Virginia will get more roles after her sudden comeback few years ago when she had an Oscar nomination, but it didn't really happen.

You should really remember Madeleine from THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS, because it was one of those cult romantic roles of an English lady falling in love with a "savage" Mohican, Daniel Day Lewis.

In Terry Gilliam's sf thriller TWELVE MONKEYS she was a psychologist working with Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt.

I also remember her role in a film which I think was called REVENGE with Kevin Costner, it was a huge hit in Serbian video market in previous decade. She was incredibly sexy in that movie.

  5. Yes, I think I remember that Revenge movie. Although I'm not sure I've seen it whole. And I kinda remember psychologist from Twelve Monkeys.

But I can't remember a thing from The Last of the Mohicans. Only thing I can remember from a several years ago is the very beginning. I remember two young ladies (sisters?) coming to visit their father on his post (military outpost). And nothing after that.
I wonder if I've seen that movie at all? Maybe all I had seen was that beginning.

  6. Well, it is an old movie. I don't remember the plot myself, just the amazing green landscapes and beautiful photography in Michael Mann's movie.
I think the movie was boring to me, the plot itself. It's interesting how after that, Mann made a whole bunch of bad movies that have no similarities with this film he's most famous for.

One of the films that always remind me of MOHICAN is Terrence Malick's THE NEW WORLD with Christian Bale and Collin Farrel, which also had the same setting, and the amazing landscapes and colours, but a very bad and boring story as well.

  7. Correct. :) About The New World movie. It was boring. But it was green, very green. :)
That film was also remembered for its main lead - Q'orianka Kilcher (tough name, had to copy/paste it). She was a mere girl of 14 when she got that part. I've almost forgotten about her and that movie, except for your reminder, and some Cameron's interview I read a few days ago. Cameron said he used her face/look as a reference when he created Neytiri for Avatar. (Another tough name I had to copy/paste.)

I just checked Q'orianka's film career/work after that movie. Nothing between 2005 and 2009. Maybe she wanted to finish high-school. But she has several films in development. In one of those she plays Hawaiian princess, the last princess before USA's annex/occupation. I would really be interested in movie about that event. Americans need to be reminded about that. They always perceive themselves as liberators, and never occupators.

  8. I remember how some five or six years ago there was a whole slate of royal movies in plan, but most of them didn't find their way into actual production. Beside CATHERINE THE GREAT (planned with Angelina Jolie in the main role) on the list was also KING OF HAWAII in which Dwayne Johnson was supposed to play one of ancient Hawaiian ruler. It could've been really interesting.

  9. It would be nice to see some historic movie about peoples from Pacific ocean. Last one was Rapa Nui, if I'm not mistaken.

  10. That was a bad one, as far as I recall, I'd like to see a movie describing the mysterious foundation and history of the Easter Islands :)

  11. So you want a fiction movie about Easter Islands? :)) If I can remember correctly, Rapa Nui did explain/show how and why the statues had been built. It was not pretty, profound or even interesting, but that is the most likely explanation.

  12. Aha, something action pumped, but not the theory stating that they all died of hunger since they had used up all of the island's wood to make statues and couldn't make new ships to leave their small piece of land :) Something a bit more dramatic.

And it would be also nice to see some thrilling epic about Mayas and Inkas, or even Aztecs, but without any of Mel Gibson's apocalyptic rubbish.
