Paramount + is bringing us a highly anticipated ten episode video game adaptation HALO This sprawling series will be set in the game universe, but will also explore new stories that follow the epic 26th-century conflict between humanity's United Nations Space Command and an alien threat known as the Covenant. The series stars Pablo Schreiber and Natascha McElhone, with Steven Spielberg producing through his Amblin TV.

 

 

ROGUE ONE'S ANDOR

Beside Obi Wan, Disney Plus  is also bringing us ANDOR, a prequel series to Star Wars: Rogue One. Centered around Diego Luna as freedom fighter Cassian Andor, this 12 episode series traces the origins of the Rebellion. Beside Lord of the Rings, Amazon is also preparing sf series THE PERIPHERAL based on a book by William Gibson.   They also have a pitch for eight part DOCTOR ZHIVAGO epic saga from Sherlock producers which would adapt Boris Pasternak's sweeping political and romantic drama set in Russia before WWI!

Coming from Narcos producers and written by Rafe Judkins, with Ava DuVernay as executive producers, is also THE LAST AMAZON character driven series which will focus on the great Amazon Queens such as Antiope and Hippolyta, portraying their loves and major battles, notably, their campaign against the Ancient Greeks. Meanwhile, 'Variety' reports that Ridley Scott is in talks to direct Disney's THE MERLIN SAGA which is eyed as a possible franchise based on 12 books from T.A. Barron which he started publishing back in 1996! He would also produce it with Lord of the Rings' and Hobbit's Philippa Boyens writing the script! Similar to the popular BBC series from a decade ago, THE MERLIN SAGA depicts the origin story of a young wizzard Merlin who would go on to become the mentor of the classic literary character of King Arthur. It is even more interesting that Disney is preparing another movie from this universe - a live action version of SWORD IN THE STONE which Ridley could also produce.

They found themselves parachuting out of crippled planes and into the arms of Yugoslav villagers who, despite being surrounded by the Germans, risked their own lives to help the downed airmen in the fight against the Nazis. TV news today, starting with Channel 4 and US Amazon's anthology sf series Phillip K. Dick's ELECTRIC DREAMS which will have ten episodes each with different stars, stories and directors. Jack Reynor and Benedict Wong have been announced as the stars of the second episode, based on Dick's story Impossible Planet.

Written and directed by The Night Manager’s David Farr, it will see them playing two disillusioned, disenchanted and indifferent space tourism employees who take up an elderly woman’s (Geraldine Chaplin) request for a trip back to Earth, the existence of which is a long debunked myth. She appears easily confused, plus she’s rich – so, for the right payment, what’s the harm in indulging her fantasies? However, as their journey unfolds, their scam begins to eat away at them and they ultimately find themselves dealt a bitter sweet surprise. I've announced this one last year, but now we have the cast: Alex Hassell, Romola Garai and Anya Taylor Joy will star in BBC's period set three part series THE MINIATURIST based on Jessie Burton novel!  Set in 1686 Amsterdam it tells the story of Nella (Taylor-Joy) who moves to the city to become the wife of a wealthy merchant. Nella is given a miniature version of her new home, which is furnished by a Miniaturist, whose creations start to reflect real events in the house. She then starts to discover the secrets of the house and its inhabitants including her cold sister-in-law Marin (Garai).

Over at FX it seems they are gathering Latin stars in the cast for their new mini series VERSACE: AMERICAN CRIME STORY. The series has now added Ricky Martin under Ryan Murphy's direction. Edgar Ramirez and Penelope Cruz have already been cast in the lead roles.

In its ten episode run VERSACE will examine the shocking July 1997 assassination of Gianni Versace (Edgar Ramirez) on the steps of his Miami Beach mansion by sociopath and serial killer Andrew Cunanan (Darren Criss). Ricky Martin will play Versace’s longtime gay partner Antonio D’Amico while Penelope Cruz is set to portray Versace’s sister Donatella.

Yet another trailer for a big screen book adaptation comes for World War 2 drama THE ZOOKEEPER' WIFE based on a book by Diane Ackerman and starring Daniel Bruhl, Jessica Chastain (although I thought it was Eddie Redmayne from Danish Girl lol)! It tells the account of keepers of the Warsaw Zoo, Jan and Antonina Zabinski, who helped save hundreds of people and animals during the Nazi invasion. It is out next May in UK. I shall put the longer trailer for the movie here tomorrow as soon as it is released instead of the today's short movie teaser!

'SECRET SCRIPTURE' TRAILER

The most stellar cast appears in the first trailer for the adaptation of Sebastian Barry's novel THE SECRET SCRIPTURE which stars Aidan Turner, Eric Bana, Jack Reynor, Theo James and Rooney Mara in a story about a 100 year old woman, (Vanessa Redgrave) who has lived in a Mental Hospital for almost half of her life and decides to write an autobiography which reveals the history of her passionate yet tortured life, and of the religious and political upheavals in Ireland during the 1920s and ’30s! Bana is her psychiatrist, Reynor a pilot she fell in love with, Theo a priest who fell in love with her!

Speaking of Aneurin Barnard, his series WHITE QUEEN is officially getting a new season but just on Starz, since BBC has opted out of the project (European audience didn't like it as much as the US one). Following the previous season in which Rebecca Ferguson played the WHITE QUEEN, new eight part series, also based on Philippa Gregory book THE WHITE PRINCESS charts the rise of the House of Tudor through the tortuous marriage between Princess Elizabeth of York and King Henry Tudor. The year is 1485 and Princess Elizabeth has been pledged in marriage to the newly anointed King Henry Tudor in hopes that it will bring peace to a war-torn country. England is united, but their marriage is soon divided, as rumours circulate that Elizabeth’s long-lost brother Prince Richard is alive and planning to take the throne.
