WHAT DID THE SPY THINK? An
exquisitely beautiful, visually breathtaking mini series, from the sets
and lighting to the beautiful palette of colours and costumes.
The series achieves mesmerizing atmosphere which is at the same time both suspenseful and tranquil making it a most unique mix. Wonderfully acted with an outstanding performance from Romola Garai and enchantingly lovely debut of Anya Taylor Joy, plus an intriguing story told with lots of style and elegance.
BASED ON JESSIE BURTON BOOK Set in 1686, it follows 18 year old Nella Oortman (Anya Taylor Joy)
who knocks at the door of a grand house in the wealthiest quarter of
Amsterdam.

1ST PERIOD SET DRAMA PHOTOS
Meanwhile, Sky's rival BBC has unveiled
first photos presenting the characters from their new three episode
period set drama THE
MINIATURIST which will, I'm guessing, probably
start airing in two weeks when Howards End finishes, so we can probably
expect a trailer and more photos soon!

TV news today, starting with Channel 4 and US Amazon's anthology sf series Phillip K. Dick's ELECTRIC DREAMSwhich will have ten episodes each with different stars, stories and directors. Jack Reynor and Benedict Wong have been announced as the stars of the second episode, based on Dick's story Impossible Planet.
Written and directed by The Night Manager’s David Farr, it will see
them playing two disillusioned, disenchanted and indifferent space
tourism employees who take up an elderly woman’s (Geraldine Chaplin)
request for a trip back to Earth, the existence of which is a long
debunked myth. She appears easily confused, plus she’s rich – so, for
the right payment, what’s the harm in indulging her fantasies? However,
as their journey unfolds, their scam begins to eat away at them and they
ultimately find themselves dealt a bitter sweet surprise. Timothy Spall
will lead the Tom Harper directed first episode based on The Commuter
story.
'THE MINIATURIST' BBC SERIES
CASTS ANYA TAYLOR JOY, ALEX HASSELL AND ROMOLA GARAI
I've announced this one last year, but now we have the cast: Alex Hassell, Romola Garai and Anya Taylor Joy will star in BBC's period set three part series THE MINIATURIST based on Jessie Burton novel! Set in 1686 Amsterdam it tells the story of Nella (Taylor-Joy) who moves to the city to become the wife of a wealthy merchant.
Nella is given a miniature version of her new home, which is furnished by a Miniaturist, whose creations start to reflect real events in the house.
She then starts to discover the secrets of the house and its inhabitants including her cold sister-in-law Marin (Garai).
'VERSACE' TV SERIES
RICKY MARTIN AS GAY LOVER
Over at FX it seems they are gathering Latin stars in the cast for their new mini series VERSACE: AMERICAN CRIME STORY. The series has now added Ricky Martin under Ryan Murphy's direction. Edgar Ramirez and Penelope Cruz have already been cast in the lead roles.
In its ten episode run VERSACE will examine the shocking July 1997
assassination of Gianni Versace (Edgar Ramirez) on the steps of his
Miami Beach mansion by sociopath and serial killer Andrew Cunanan
(Darren Criss). Ricky Martin will play Versace’s longtime gay partner
Antonio D’Amico while Penelope Cruz is set to portray Versace’s sister
Donatella.
NURGUL YESILCAY TO REPLACE BEREN SAAT AT THE THRONE?
Television news for you this Sunday, starting with the royal gossips coming from Istanbul's Topkapi palace which say that Beren Saat could be replaced in the second season of the worldwide hit saga KOSEM SULTANA by Turkey's best paid TV star Nurgül Yeşilçay! I must admit I'd welcome the replacement given how much the audience was dissatisfied with Beren's lack of any interest in giving some depth or personality to her portrayal of the 17th century sultana Kosem who ruled Ottoman Empire through her husband and later on her sons. With her shocking lack of expression and acting chops Beren has really taken for granted the role which most actresses would consider an acting playground and a role of a lifetime. It is interesting that the second season will have an unprecedented full cast change, since all of the characters have been killed in the first one or have grown up and will be played by older stars. Caner Cindoruk, Burak Yamantürk, Metin Akdülger, Farah Zeynep Abdullah, Naz Elmas are just some of the stars I've heard could play Kosem's grown up princes and princesses and courtiers in the new season which should return this Autumn.
TOBY SANDEMAN IS
MOROCCAN PRINCE IN 'ROYALS' Speaking of royal courts, E!'s first scripted series ever which has set
December 4th for the return in its third season, THE ROYALS has just
cast Toby Sandeman as a Moroccan prince! Sebastian is described as
being articulate and cerebral and has fully embraced everything that
comes with being a contemporary royal including the scrutiny and
attention it brings. He joins Elizabeth Hurley, Tom Austin and William
Moseley in the popular drama. NBC BUYS 'THE ARK' SF DRAMA Meanwhile, NBC has bought
a high concept sf drama THE ARK a modern retelling of the
Noah’s Ark story from the Bible, following an engineer who, after the
death of his wife, has a vision to construct a ship capable of
sustaining life in space. When the build happens to coincide with the
coming end of the world, the engineer realizes there may be a larger
story at play. BBC TO TURN 'THE MINIATURIST' INTO MINI SERIES Across the pond, British
national broadcaster BBC has announced that they're making a new period
set series. They will adapt Jessie Burton's THE MINIATURIST into a three
part series! The 2014 bestseller is set in 1686 with the story
revolving around eighteen year old Nella Oortman, who arrives in
Amsterdam to become the wife of wealthy merchant Johannes Brandt.
She receives a wedding gift of a doll's house from a mysterious
Miniaturist, which she soon realises is mirroring the situation in her
house, and predicting the future in unnerving ways.
