BRYAN SINGER DIRECTING "BATTLESTAR GALACTICA" MOVIE?

According to HitFix.com Universal Pictures is about to sign a deal with mega successful director Bryan Singer to produce and possibly direct the movie version of "Battlestar Galactica" .
Apparently there is no screenplay yet since they want to sign him first and then start a search for a writer.
According to some stories, Singer was developing a TV series based on the original sf show back in 2001, but it wasn't realized because of the 9/11.

  1. This doesn't sound probable to me. At least not so soon after the last remake (SciFi TV series). Common movie/TV producing norms are to wait at least 5 years before doing something like this.

  2. As far as I've got it, he is ignoring the last TV remake, and focusing only on the original series.
But, we shall see. Many people want him to do SUPERMAN first, although, I don't care much about that franchise.
He is also in talks for doing another TV project based on some alien invasion, but that will be in the form of mini-series.

  3. He can ignore the latest TV remake all he likes, but that doesn't change a thing. Producers have a clear market research profiles, ones that suggest (or better yet, imply) that it is too early for another remake.
Battlestar Galactica (on SciFi) was far too influential, and another remake would not be wise so soon, not matter how different it could/would be.

And another Superman (if it even happens in next 5 years) would most likely be franchise restart (again). And it wouldn't include Singer or Routh. Warner producers already implied something like that.

  4. Yes, it's true about SUPERMAN.
Anyway, I do think that Singer should do something in a totally different genre and leave superheroes and space to other directors.
Although he didn't exactly shine with VALKYRIE, but let's blame Tom Cruise for that :)

  5. I haven't seen Valkyrie, I just skipped through it. Still, it looked much more interesting visually than Superman Returns. I think it had a right mix of action and drama, closed dialogue sequences and widespread action scenes. Settings, camera, colours and lighting all looked aright with me.

Maybe movie didn't deliver in general story or acting, but I think director did a good job. After Superman Returns I had believed that Singer was just "lucky"with X-Men 1 and 2. But now I see he's not a bad director after all.

  6. well, that's exactly what I was sayin' before :)
He IS a good director, so that is why we should blame Tom Cruise for the failure of VALKYRIE :))) It's the easiest way :)

  7. And let's not forget that Singer is the guy who directed THE USUAL SUSPECTS, it was his virgin project :))

  8. And the latest news is that he is in line to direct the EXCALIBUR script that we've mentioned few weeks ago.
