Here is an unexpected surprise you probably would have missed if it weren't for your trusted global superspy: dropping at Netflix November 2nd is Indonesian historical series CIGARETTE GIRL. Based on the novel by Ratih Kumala, the 1960s set period romantic drama revolves around a family that has become wealthy through producing Indonesia’s famed clove cigarettes. The son of the family is searching for a girl to fulfill his father’s dying wish. This eight episode series premiered earlier this month at Busan International Film Festival. Check out the teaser trailer below the post and tell us what you think, will this exotic love story be something you would watch?
CIGARETTE GIRL SERIES
invites
viewers to the world of Dasiyah (Dian Sastrowardoyo), a woman ahead of
her time and is passionate in concocting the perfect formulas for clove
cigarettes. Her encounter with Soeraja (Ario Bayu) leads to a love story
marked by historical events that eventually shape the course of their
lives. Decades later, Lebas (Arya Saloka), estranged son of cigarette
mogul Soeraja, while trying to fulfill his father's dying wish, meets
Arum (Putri Marino) and together they trace the past and uncover buried
secrets.
Now this looks good. Not that we love nasty things like cigarettes, but these are the female driven stories that I can stand behind. One where a woman can come in and implement her own changes to improve product in a male dominated field. Much better than the woke agenda crap we usually get.
ReplyDeleteIt does look charmingly exotic.
DeleteI don't think I have ever watched anything from Indonesia. Not interested in anything with cigarettes (cigars maybe), I actually think they should be banned...funny thing I saw people in the supermarkets bought lots of organic wholefood together with a whole dozen of cigarettes...what's the bloody point of eating healthy while smoking??
ReplyDeleteAre not they banning them soon in Germany, I think I read something about it, and also that now they can be bought only in specialised stores not in supermarkets. Maybe it was Scandinavia, cannot remember. I would make cigarettes about a hundred times more expensive and tax the producers with a massive tax which I would then use for charities.
DeleteI also do not get people who drink a coffee and then after it a lemonade or an orange juice, what is the point, caffeine kills vitamin C.
