HOLLYWOOD SPY'S EXCLUSIVE FASHION REPORT FROM OSCARS 2012 RED CARPET. THE BEST AND THE WORST DRESSED

I'm sure you've watched the same old boring OSCARS last night, so tell me whom did you like best at the red carpet and who was the trashiest? Methinks the fashion was as monotonous this year as the films were. You can check out the list of winners here. I'm happy that Meryl Streep won, alongside with Octavia Spencer and Christopher Plummer, and I'm glad that George Clooney and Brad Pitt didn't win. There's some justice at least.Click on the pics to see them bigger.
When it comes to fashion, Clooney's girlfriend Stacy Keibler was definitely the star of the evening in her golden Marchessa dress with the rose on her hip, while Emma Stone was adorable in her red gown, although somewhat boring. Octavia Spencer looked smashing in her snowy sparkly dress, while Virginia Madsen was one of the best dressed as always in her violet asymmetric dress.

THE SO SO
When it comes to those who didn't shine, but weren't bad either, there's Gwyneth Paltrow in her white gown with a cape. She had lovely hair as well, but was missing some earrings or something similar,
although she did have a flawless bracelet. Meryl Streep, the happy third time winner, looked beautiful in her golden gown, although maybe a bit too retro. Milla Jovovich looked nice, but went on the safe side and wasn't stunning as she could've been.

THE NO NO
Absolute No No of the evening when it comes to fashion was Rooney Mara. That dress of hers was just nightmarish along with her Gothic hairdo. As always, Natalie Portman has shown that she's missing some style along with some acting talent, while Michelle Williams,
although cute and adorable and super talented, just can't seem to find a decent dress for all the ceremonies she's been visiting. We're not in the 70's and we're not buying her retro style. One of those who sometimes disappoint and sometime shine, is Cameron Diaz, who didn't amaze this year. A bad hairdo and an unnoticeable gown. So, whom did you like and didn't like at the red carpet?

  1. You have good eyes for fashion, Dezz ;)
I really like Emma Stone's dress.

I didn't see the Oscar because my local TV station didn't show it and I don't really care much either. My Oscar viewing is always through YouTube when my fav actors/actress won.

I watched only an hour and a half since it is 2am when the ceremony is on in USA.

  3. Oh, Dezzy, I really disliked that dress Michelle Williams wore, and yet the people on television kept praising it.

I thought Octavia Spencer looked so beautiful. And I also liked Milla Jovovich, though I wondered if you would mention her. :)

    1. yep, they praise because they want to suck up to the celebs :) It might be fashionable to some, but it's just not pretty nor classy. And that neckless around her neck is a wrong touch too.
I'm almost convinced that I've seen that Milla's dress on someone else in the past, I'm more than sure, but I can't remember on whom :)

  4. I totally agree with your opinion. Oh, I thoughtt the Dragon tattoo girl was the worst!!

    1. glad to hear that, Ciara :) I don't get that Dragon tattoo girl at all. Neither her, nor her appearance in Hollywood, not to mention her nomination.

  5. I loved the color of Viola Davis's gown. I liked Gwyneth's dress minus the cape and the actress. I thought Meryl looked lovely. But no one wowed me!

    1. yes, nobody wowed us this year. Globes were better than the Oscars fashionwise, this year.

  6. I think my favorite of those (at least how they looked that night) was Kiebler

  7. LOL I am not one to talk, have no fashion sense, but at least with all the money they spend on those things, you'd think they would hire someone who knew a think or two. And Clooney didn't win, yippeee!

    1. that's what puzzles me to no end :) It seems style cannot be bought if you don't have at least some amount of it within yourself. I was shocked when Sandra Bullock said she'd deeply thought about the dress she wore for weeks, and she looked as a kitschy Vienna cake :) Speaking of Sandra, whom I love, have you noticed have bottoxed she was? She was unable to smile or wink.

    2. No-o-o-o-o-o! Not Sandy, too! Say it ain't so! But it does explain why she didn't smile at me when I told her she looked hot....

      Delete
    3. it's true, she made love with some bottox :(

    4. Yeah I noticed that too, another plastic face. Those who get that look completley ugly as they age.

      Delete
    5. I'll never understand them. Never seen a victim of plastic surgery who looks good.

  8. Yes, I noticed that all the gowns were quite conservative this year. But some were quite lovely. What I noticed was that some of the women were tottering along on heels that were obviously too high for them. They were having real difficulty walking. That really ruins the look of elegance.

    1. yep, there's currently a weird and unflattering trend of platform heels. Never understood why would ladies wear them. They look ugly and seem uncomfortable.

  9. oh, Dezzy, you're so funny! I (like Kelly) really liked Viola Davis's dress, too. And all your "no nos" didn't bother me at all. They were all too safe to be disgruntling. :D I honestly thought for once Cameron Diaz didn't hurt my eyes when I looked at her. She's usually a train wreck.

As for faves... hmm... who was the redhead nominated for best SA from The Help? I liked her black gown w/the gold in it. That was very nice~ :o) <3

    1. can't agree with you and Kelly, Leigh. Viola's dress looked extremely cheap and trashy, especially the bottom part, and plus her hair was a mess. She looked much better at the Globes.

  10. Women and their strapless dresses. They think they look sexy pulling up that thing every five minutes. Meryl Streep looks cool in that dress which cost more than my salary. (Don't mention it, Dezzmeister.)

    1. So, I reckon Meryl's dress cost more than 100,000 dollars?

  11. I love the fabric on Keiblers dress, I could roll around in that fabric. I like the way it was pulled up on the hip, but I think the rose may have been a bit much, an elegant gather would have been better. I always feel so sorry for Streep on the red carpet, why does she always wear such terrible fashion when she's such a classy lady? And you'd think that with Paltrow and Diaz slim tall figures a designer could do better than that.

And Emma Stone and Nicole Kidman were wearing similar dresses. I must say Nicole looked better in hers as the cut was better and she's always had a stunning figure. She always looks classy.

    1. she was the prettiest, wasn't she? But I loved the rose, since it was an artistic and architectural touch, which wouldn't look good on other ladies, but on her flawless beauty it really was a master piece.
Yep, Nicole had a similar neck line on one of her old dresses, but she has long time ago lost any sense of style and now usually looks like a birthday cake :)
The red carpet is never amazing when there's no Blanchett, Zeta Jones, Beckinsale, Elizabeth Banks or Sophia Vergara :)

    2. I still think Nicole is pretty darling. A birthday cake hahaha. You're ruthless luv, ruthless.

  12. I'm so glad you didn't like Michelle Williams' dress. Everyone on the red carpet seemed so nice things about it but I really didn't like it at all.

And yes I LOVED Stacy Keibler!! Gorgeous!

I'm not sure what's worse, the dress or the hairdo :(

    3. 'so' should have been 'to say'
      The dress is worse. Easily.

    4. I hate the hairdo too, don't like short boyish hair on ladies and long hair on boys :)

  13. Emma Stone looks amazing!

  15. I loved Emma, though I thought she needed something a bit more. Loved Stacey, too, and Viola Davis. Thought Glenn looked pretty good, but could not stand Michelle's dress. I love her, but God does she need a better stylist.

    1. Glenn had a very flattering dress and amazing colour, but I couldn't find a nice pic of her from the red carpet, so she was left out. I wanted to put Viola in the worst dressed :) but didn't have enough space on the pic :)

  16. that stacey kiebler (who the heck is she besides someone's girlfriend???) dress is really mesmerizing- very unique. she wins.

    1. yep, my thought exactly, I wonder how ironic it is that the most stylish lady is the one who isn't even an actress :)

  17. No mention of J.Lo? ;) Stacey pulled that off nicely & I've liked her since her performance in "Dancing with the Stars

    1. we don't do J.Lo here ;) ever since she started wearing fur of poor dead animals and defending her right to do that as a personal opinion. Evil. Pure evil.

  18. I thought Gwyneth Paltrow looked like a moth in a cocoon. Disappointed in Tom Ford. Rooney Mara I think has taken her role in Dragon Tattoo too seriously, but her look is original I'll have to say.

Octavia Spencer and Penelope Cruz had my favorite dresses of the evening, and I actually liked Michelle Williams in the coral dress, but not everyone could pull it off. I thought Meryl looked the best I've seen her in all the award shows this year.

    1. Octavia was very classy, but messed it all up with her speech. What was that about? Meryl is always lady of the evening :) I feel sorry for Glenn Close, who pulls the role of her life and still doesn't win :(

  19. wow! what does it matter if they wear something SHEEETY or not? must they continue to try to awe and entertain everytime they are seen by public eyes? what a tiresome life. can't they (like the rest of us common 'folk') just dress to please themselves, or be comfortable?
men are sooo lucky, they are not so easily judged.

    really like your blog.

    1. well, when you're a star and expect people to love you, you have to dress nicely too :) That's what makes them not common like the rest of us.
Glad you like the blog :)

      Delete
    2. i think that they get that 'STAR' status because of their talent and their performance(not to mention a GOOD story/movie)...thus the reason we love them. and they do so because of their ambition to be good actors. we loving them is just 'brawta' (jamaican term) that is usually appreciated.

  20. I'm glad that George Clooney and Brad Pitt didn't win either, Dez! But Clooney's girlfriend does look stunning and I do like Emma's dress also. Michelle's dress is also very beautiful and fits her personality perfectly.

Oh I also hate Rooney Mara's dress, it's so unflattering, it makes her look even skinnier, if that's even possible.

I know you don't like Viola's dress, hey that's ok, we can't always agree on everything :)
